Trover Saves the Universe is a game about saving the universe. Yep, just saving the ol’ universe – you in your floating alien chair and your friend Trover runnin’ around, killing bad guys with his laser sword and jamming Power Babies into his eye sockets. This weird world is the creation of Squanch Games, the same studio that brought you the nihilistic improv splendor of Accounting Plus . Despite telling a slightly more focused story than its predecessor, Trover is no less eager to embark on extended asides and a never-ending rollercoaster of gross-out gags and slow-burn, cerebral hilarity. You can play Trover Saves the Universe on a standard screen if you prefer, but you’ll feel like much more of a team if you pop on a headset and join Trover in his weird little world.

Psvr 2 Potential Release Date

In Sony’s official unveiling of the new PSVR 2 controllers, it told fans upfront not to expect a new virtual reality headset in 2021. That means PSVR 2 will likely come out sometime in 2022. That was given more credence with reports claiming insider information that has the PSVR 2 tipped to come out holiday 2022.

Despite this, Sony still felt it was worth letting developers know publicly that a new headset would be coming so that game development could begin.

“Theres still a lot of development underway for our new VR system, so it wont be launching in 2021, said senior vice president of platform planning & management Hideaki Nishino in a PlayStation Blog post. “But we wanted to provide this early update to our fans, as the development community has started to work on creating new worlds for you to explore in virtual reality.”

And considering Sony is having enough trouble meeting basic demand for the PS5, slipping in a PSVR 2 launch in the middle of a pandemic-induced supply-chain nightmare does little good for anyone.

“There’s no reason for us to coincide it with a new console. From the point of view of the consumer, to be bombarded with many many things oh, you have to buy this, you have to buy that is a message that we don’t want to send. In some ways, it’s good to have a little breathing space between those things,” Sony’s senior vice president of R& D Dominic Mallinson told CNET when asked about a PSVR 2’s release back in 2019.

Psvr 2 Specs Include Near

Official PSVR 2 specs havent been announced but UploadVR was the first to reveal details in May 2021. Multiple sources confirmed to us that the headset includes a resolution of 4000×2040 pixels . In an August 2021 report from the private developer conference, PSVR Without Parole also reported it will have about a 10 degree wider field of view than the original PSVR and it will use an HDR OLED display.

Watch Your Own 360 Videos/photos

With the launch of Playstation VR, Sony will also update the Media Player app on the Playstation 4 so it can play 360 videos and show 360 photos. You’re probably not shooting in 360 degrees quite yet, but you might be soon. Cameras such as the LG 360 Cam and Ricoh Theta S make it easy — though not necessarily affordable — to shoot 360 content. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to check this out in a live demo.

We don’t know yet if you’ll be able to watch 360-degree video from YouTube or other online platforms through PSVR, but it’s possible.

We’ve got the latest news on the PSVR 2, the upcoming PS5 VR headset from Sony.

The PSVR 2 is coming, that much is confirmed, but what else do we know about the next gen VR headset designed exclusively for PlayStation 5?

Sony’s announcement of the PS5 left many gamers questioning the future of virtual reality gaming on the PlayStation platform. Luckily for console-based VR fans, Sony did announce a next gen VR headset for PlayStation earlier this year – the unofficially named PSVR 2.

The PSVR is currently the only VR headset available from the three major console makers and still offers gamers a lot of value, which is clear from our PSVR review. It hosts some of the best VR space games currently released, but the hardware and graphical specs of the original PSVR are no longer cutting edge. Unfortunately it doesn’t quite compare to the best VR headsets currently on the market, some of which feature in our best VR headset deals page.

Since the announcement that the PSVR 2 was in development, not a whole lot of information has been released about the virtual reality headset. However, the PlayStation 5 has been on the market since 2019 and excitement is growing, so here’s everything we do know about PSVR news, rumors, release date, price and specs.

Psvr 2 Price Speculation

As far as the pricing goes, the original PSVR initially launched at $499 for the full set, which was a bit pricey for the average consumer at the time. It’s now down to $349, packaged with newer PlayStation VR games such as Iron Man VR. The core set, with just the headset, was $100 cheaper, but it’s increasingly hard to find one of those in the wild.

It’s unlikely that Sony is going to release a PlayStation VR headset that costs more than the system again. The new Oculus Quest 2 is a relatively affordable $299, while the Oculus Rift S costs $399. Sony wants to grow its VR fortunes, and it feels like the new PlayStation VR will probably not break $499.

It’s likely that Sony will take on Oculus directly and land at the $399 price tag. Combined with the $500 price of the PS5 itself, that still brings the entire next-gen PlayStation VR platform under the price of the Valve Index, which can cost as much as $999 with accessories and trackers. We can only hope that by the time of its release, the global chip shortage will improve, and the next-gen PSVR will not be affected by scalper pricing.

Psvr 2 Features Include Eye

Beyond the PSVR 2 specs, the headset will have some big new features. The kit will be able to track the direction of your eyes, for example, to use a technique called foveated rendering. This is when an experience only fully renders the area of a screen youre looking at the rest isnt fully rendered but this should be noticeable in your peripheral vision. This should help dramatically improve performance on PS5. Itll also have a lens separation adjustment dial for people to find the clearest image possible with.

Psvr 2/ps5 Vr Is Happening But Not This Year

Rejoice! Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed PSVR 2 is officially happening. In a post on the PlayStation Blog this February, CEO Jim Ryan confirmed a new headset is in the works. It wont, however, release in 2021. Ryan didnt give a launch window beyond that information, but we certainly hope to see more in 2022. Rumors suggest well see the first launch information early next year.

It also might not be called PSVR 2. Ryan didnt give the headset a name in his post but, then again, Sony didnt immediately name the PS5 when it first started talking about it in mid-2019, so PSVR 2 is still on the table. That said, in a recent developer conference the company reportedly codenamed the headset NGVR, or Next-Generation VR.

There was some uncertainty about if PSVR 2 could ever happen. In the weeks leading up to launch of the PS5, Sony delivered somewhat mixed messages about the future of VR. In October 2020, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan said the future of the platform was more than a few minutes away, and the recent closure of Sonys VR-dedicated studio in the UK didnt inspire much confidence. Today, we can rest easy that those fears were unfounded: PSVR 2 is definitely happening.

Rigs: Mechanized Combat League

Making a play for VRs first e-sport, RIGS is a fast-paced arena sport where two teams of three players piloting giant mechs fight to accrue the most points in five-minute matches. There are three different types of play, awarding points for kills, carrying a ball through the opposing teams goal, or charging up your mech with takedowns and then leaping through a central ring, respectively.

With multiple online and offline gameplay modes, in addition to solo skill trials and unlockable customization options for your rig and pilot, RIGS is one of the most fully realized games available in VR currently, where most releases still feel like tech demos. Most importantly, its a lot of fun and attracts a critical mass of regular players into a sustainable community, it has the potential to be an early pillar of the medium.

Psvr Games May Be Subtly Updated But Don’t Expect A Lot Yet

The PlayStation 4 Pro bumped up the quality and resolution of PSVR graphics, making games look crisper and better on the headset. But with the PS5, you may not see quite as big a boost. Sony says that games will load faster and there could be some improvements in graphics in certain games. But it’s not being touted as a key difference-maker yet for PS4-level PSVR games.

I haven’t played VR games on a PS5 yet, but those that have haven’t noticed major advantages. I have played PSVR games on a PS4 Pro vs a PS4 and there is definitely improvement on the PS4 Pro. Maybe it’s too early to tell how VR games on PS5 will be upgraded, but for now it seems to mostly just be playing PSVR games with faster load times.

Even stranger, it seems that PS5 games that have been updated with new graphics also lose their VR component. No Man’s Sky and Hitman III have VR modes, but according to Upload VR the games don’t have VR modes in their PS5 updates. Instead, you’ll need to load the PS4 versions. Which is weird.

Unreal Engine 5 on PS5 seems incredibly promising, and should have VR benefits too.

The Ps5 Should Eventually Be A Vr Powerhouse

The PS5 seems ideally suited for VR, with spatial 3D audio and support for Unreal Engine 5, which will clearly be used for next-gen VR and AR. Unreal Engine 5 doesn’t arrive until late next year, though. And Sony’s plans for a new VR headset remain a mystery.

For now, if you’re interested in VR, it doesn’t seem like a good time to buy a PSVR unless you’re ready to live with a lot of limitations. If you’re using a PS4, maybe. But for PS5 owners, VR compatibility may be a lot less exciting than you were maybe expecting. Sony’s VR game library is impressive, but the PS5 isn’t ready yet to take VR to the next level.

Psvr 2 Will Run On Ps5 Via A Single Wire

This ones a bit of a no-brainer but, just in case you didnt know PSVR 2 will run on PS5. Sonys next-generation console is now rolling out across the globe and, although supply has been an issue, its slowly but surely finding its way into peoples homes.

In Februarys blog post, Ryan confirmed that the new headset connects to the console via a single cord, meaning a much simpler setup than the mess of wires included in the original PSVR. Theres no confirmation of any possible wireless connectivity just yet, but well come to that in a bit. Either way, the added processing power of the PS5 should go a long way to improving the PSVR experience. Again, more on that further down.

Additional Playstation Vr 23 Headset Specs

The PlayStation VR 2 is expected to boast 4K resolution of 4000×2040 pixels . This resolution slightly beats the Oculus Quest 2 but falls short of the 5K resolution featured in the HTC Vive Pro 2 .

Additionally, a lens separation adjustment dial is expected to be included in the PlayStation VR 2 specs. The Oculus Quest 2 features a similar mechanism, allowing users to switch between 3 spacing settings to accomodate various IPD measurements.

UploadVR also speculated on direct eye tracking, made possible by foveated rendering. Expanding upon this feature’s possibilities like improved social connectivity, they wrote:

“Eye-tracking can also dramatically change the sense of social connection made between avatars in VR. Generally speaking, the technology allows for subtler expression translating to a more profound sense of actually being together with another person in a virtual world. Eye-tracking could also be employed for other uses, such as much better throwing mechanics that take into account what a player is looking at when they release a virtual object.”

While You Wait Ps5 Supports Psvr For Backwards Compatibility

Not only is PS5 backwards compatible, but the console also supports the original PSVR, too. That means you can play original PSVR games on the headset, but youll need a special adapter to attach the PS4 Camera to your PS5. You cant use the new HD Camera for PS5 with the headset, but Sony is sending out the adapter for free and bundling it in with new units. Youll need to use all of your existing controllers for PSVR on PS5, though gamepad-supported games that dont use tracking like Resident Evil 7 can use the next DualSense controller.

We also know that PSVR developers can update their titles with PS5-specific features, perhaps improving the visuals and performance of existing games. Along with the No Mans Sky visuals upgrades, Blood & Truth has improvements as does Firewall: Zero Hour. Also bear in mind that not every PSVR game is compatible with PS5. Sony says the vast majority of PS4 games will work on PS5, but we do know Robinson: The Journey isnt compatible with the new console.
