Sony does offer a trial period for PlayStation Plus. But there are a couple of things to know about that. First, the trial period lasts for 14 days. So you get the capability to test it out for two weeks before you need to pay for your first month of the service.
The trial period is also only available for first-time subscribers. That means if youve ever subscribed to it in the past, you wont be able to utilize the trial when you re-sub.
Rather you will end up paying for the subscription to start up right away. And because these are tied to your PSN account, you cant simply start up a new email account and sign up for the free trial that way like you can with some streaming services.
Playstation Should Leverage The Bungie Acquisition For Ps Plus
Sonys acquisition of Bungie creates an opportunity for PlayStation to offer free content for PS Plus subscribers in Destiny 2 and other games.
The new partnership that Sony will have with Bungie following its acquisition is full of opportunities. For Sony, this means another studio it can tap for important PlayStation titles, and for Bungie theres a lot more money available to back its future endeavors. While the what-ifs about new Bungie games currently point to a future without console exclusives, Sony and PlayStation still have a chance to leverage Bungie and its properties in order to make the PS Plus service more enticing.
Previously, Bungies Destiny 2 expansions were available through the Xbox Game Pass service, allowing subscribers to enjoy the best parts of the game without having to pay extra. This was a major perk for Xbox users who wanted to check out Destiny 2, or those already familiar with the series. New expansions cost money and for many, this deal through Xbox Game Pass was an inexpensive workaround. While PS Plus doesnt have all the same benefits as Xbox Game Pass, the service could start to use Destiny 2 to its advantage.

Is Playstation Plus Required For All Online Gaming On Playstation
No. Some games will not require a subscription. Some will. For example, you dont need a subscription to PlayStation Plus to play Final Fantasy XIV on PS4 or PS5.
You do need a subscription to that game specifically to play it. But for example if this is the only online game you play on PS4 or PS5, then you can simply pay for the sub to that game, and not worry about PlayStation Plus.
If you play other online games, like Call of Duty, Warframe, Destiny 2, The Division, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, and others, you will need to be subscribed to PlayStation Plus if you want the online features for those games. Also worth noting is that Sony will generally list which games in the store require a Plus subscription and which ones dont.
So you can use that to determine whether to subscribe or download the game.

Destiny : New Light May Be Free
Despite being free-to-play, Destiny 2: New Light continues to require PlayStation Plus if you want to group up with others online.
Destiny 2 has just been through possibly its biggest change ever: offering a no-bullshit free-to-play version dubbed New Light. New Light launched alongside Shadowkeep on Tuesday, and includes a generous amount of content for free.
This new version has generally been well-received, but PS4 players immediately noticed that the game continues to require an active PlayStation Plus subscription for non-solo activities. Destiny has always required Plus, of course, but the vast majority of free-to-play games on Sony’s console do not.
Fortnite, Apex Legends – and chiefly Warframe, perhaps Destiny 2’s biggest competitor today in the loot shooter world, can all be enjoyed without a Plus subscription. The game’s page on the UK PlayStation Store even makes it clear that a Plus membership is required.
This also doesn’t appear to be some sort of strange mishap, given Destiny 2’s history as a paid game. The game is listed as free-to-play on the store, and everything else you can purchase – such as expansions and in-game currency – are listed as add-ons. In some cases, paid PS4 games offer free trials that have to be specifically selected on the store page, whereas Destiny 2 in this case is a unique application.

Is Xbox The Same Way
Until recently, players needed Xbox Live Gold to play all online multiplayer on Xbox, regardless of whether the game was free-to-play. This has changed, and Microsoft no longer requires an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play free-to-play games online, making it more in line with what Sony offers. You do still need an Xbox Live Gold membership to play most other multiplayer games.
Everything You Can Play Without A Ps Plus Subscription
Without a subscription to PlayStations online services, youll still be able to enjoy the following content:
- Destiny 2s main story missions in the base game.
- Destiny 2s expansions story missions.
- All Planet Activities like Lost Sectors, Adventures, Public Events and Patrols on all planets.
In other words, youre left with a very enjoyable, but very small slice of what Destiny 2 has to offer. As such, if youre wanting to grind out exotic weapons and get those god rolls, youre gonna want to sign up to Sonys PlayStation Plus subscription.
Alternatively, if you have a powerful-enough PC, you can and you wont have to pay a penny for any of the extras.

What Happened To Ps Now
Previously, Sony had a gaming subscription service called PlayStation Now, which provided access to a rotating library of PS4 games that could also be streamed. Games in PlayStation Now could be played online without an active PlayStation Plus membership. At the time, you could think of this as an extra perk of a PS Now subscription. However, if you wanted to transfer your PS Now game saves from console over to PC for whatever reason, you needed a PS Plus membership to do so.
All of that is in the past, however, and it’s important to keep in mind that PlayStation Now is no longer around. The service was integrated into a revamped PlayStation Plus that rolled out starting in June 2022. When this happened, PlayStation Now was no more, and your only option for playing paid multiplayer games is now to subscribe to PlayStation Plus.
Here are the three tiers of the new PlayStation Plus membership:
- PlayStation Plus Essential – $10 per month, the same as PlayStation Plus right now.
- PlayStation Plus Extra – $15 per month, adds library of PS4 and PS5 games.
- PlayStation Plus Premium – $18 per month, adds former PlayStation Now streaming, game trials, and select PS1, PS2, and PSP games.
The list of games in PlayStation Plus Premium is huge, and PlayStation is rotating in new titles every month, so there’s always something new for subscribers to check out.
When Will Ps Plus Stop Becoming A Requirement For Online Games
Whether Sony will drop PlayStation Plus as a requirement for online play is unknown. The service has grown well beyond online and multiplayer connectivity in recent years. However, it’s still a large revenue earner and is used as a way to subsidize the PlayStation Network.
Given the amount of revenue it pulls in unless there are drastic changes sometime in the future, we wouldn’t expect PS Plus to go away anytime soon regarding online gameplay. This is especially true considering how PlayStation Plus was revamped into multiple tiers, with online pay as the “base” tier.

Today I went to a store to buy Destiny for PS4. I have been played Destiny in the demo 1 month ago. I play just a few hours per week and I don’t want have the PlayStation Plus signature.
At the Store the guys advise me to play Destiny I must have the PlayStation plus signature to play this game.
I would like know is it true, why I’m not able to play by myself?
While you can play Destiny without PlayStation Plus, PlayStation Plus is required to play online.
If you are intending to play single player, you have no problem, however keep in mind that Destiny focuses a lot of its content for multiplayer/ online, and without PlayStation Plus you are likely to miss out on a lot of what the game had to offer.
