As part of a post on the PlayStation Blog, Sony has announced that the price of PlayStation Plus will be changing as of September 22nd, 2016. Existing members won’t be affected until their membership renews on or after the date above.

The short answer, we’re afraid, is that you do need PS Plus to play GTA Online on PlayStation, which is in line with most other games on Sony’s platforms. This keeps the PlayStation Plus subscription offering consistent, as players then know that if they want to play any game online they’ll need to sign up to the service. If you’re not currently a subscriber then you can join using one of these PS Plus deals, and as an added incentive members on PS4 can claim GTA$1,000,000 for free each month until November 2021 by visiting the PlayStation Store.
Currently the only exception to the PS Plus subscription rule is for free-to-play games such as Fortnite, as they can be played online without purchasing the service. This could make things interesting when GTA Online launches as a standalone version for PS5 on November 11, 2021, as it will be free to all PS5 players for the first three months after launch. We’ll have to wait and see if PS Plus is still required for that free version, or whether Sony and Rockstar will come to an arrangement to make it truly free for all PS5 users.
Online Storage For Your Save Games
On the PlayStation 4, PS Plus also allows you to use online storage for your save games. Your PS4 automatically uploads your save games to Sonys servers, and you can download that save data on another consoleor the same console, if youve deleted the save games.

I recently bought a 2nd PS4 . I gave my old PS4 to my son , which was my primary. On unit 1 all user has all the benefits of ps plus, multiplayer included. On unit 2, since I will be the only user on it, will have to sign in my name at all times to have my ps plus benefit. Currently I can play destiny multiplayer, download free games on ps store, etc. if another user signed in on unit 2, this would not work. Only your primary ID would work on unit 2. Makes sense?
On Resogun , all of the profiles could play on-line with friends, PSN+ subscription or not.

Sony Explains Why Ps Plus Is Required For Ps4 Online Play
Shuhei Yoshida says due to “large investment of resources” for online play, keeping service free would have been “absurd.”
Sony has explained why a PlayStation Plus subscription will be required to play PlayStation 4 titles online. In the latest issue of Famitsu , Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida said that it would have been “absurd” to keep the service free, considering the “large investment of resources” Sony has made for online infrastructure.
“The main pillar for the PS4 will be online play. We’re developing many new ways to play and connect which requires a large investment of resources,” Yoshida said.
“Considering the cost, to try to keep such a service free and consequently lower the quality would be absurd. We decided that if that’s the case, then it would be better to receive proper payment and continue to offer a good service.”
Currently, Sony does not charge a penny for online play for the PlayStation 3. PlayStation Plus subscriptions are offered for $50 per year, and current memberships will carry over to the PS4.
The move puts Sony in line with Microsoft, which currently mandates that Xbox 360 users have an Xbox Live Gold membership to play games online and access features like Netflix.
Elsewhere in the Famitsu issue, Sony Japan president Hiroshi Kawano said just because the PS4 is the main show moving forward, support for the PS3 is not ending anytime soon.
The PS4 launches this holiday for $399/399/£349.
