Don’t Let Geek Squad Work On Your Xbox While It’s Still Under Manufacturer’s Warranty
I purchased an Xbox One X from Best Buy in February of 2018. I payed extra for the two year Geek Squad Protection Plan. The salesmen told me if I threw the Xbox down the stairs, to bring it back and they would give me a new one with the GSP.
In January of this year, the Xbox crashed, and would not boot up with a common error code for hard drive failure. I took it to my local BB to be fixed. The lady at the counter told me they usually just issue a new Xbox and I would get it in the mail in a couple days. However, when she entered the problem into her computer, they wanted to send it for repair instead of replacement. I agree and go without my Xbox for two weeks while it is shipped to Texas.
I get the Xbox back with the report that they found nothing wrong and just reset the hard drive to factory settings. It works for two weeks, and I get the same E105 Error and failure to start. I reset it to factory settings again myself, avoiding shipping it to Texas again, and it worked. For two more weeks. Last night when I tried to start it, I got the same E105 error.
I have no faith Best Buy’s willingness or ability to fix my problem at this point, so I contacted Microsoft. I learned through talking with Microsoft that by having Best Buy “repair” my device, it voided the manufacturer’s warranty. They tell me to go back to best buy.
If I had never bought the GSPP, my system would have been replaced by Microsoft under the 1 year MW.

You should probably take it to a Ubreakifix or a mom and pop repair shop. If it’s a broken HDMI chances are they’ve fixed hundreds of those and should be pretty inexpensive.

I obviously dont buy from Best Buy very often, as I had not even realized their return policy had changed from 30 days to 15 days back in 2013. I needed to return 2 unopened wireless phone charging stations, as it turns out my in-laws phones arent wireless charging capable. I was back within 30 days, but of course they didnt want to take the return since it was over 15 days. I argued with the manager, pointed out the items were unopened and I had my receipt. She made a one-time exception for me while talking to me like I was a toddler. Made me really mad, but I kept it in since I was at least getting my money back. Apparently, I was a lucky one. No more Best Buy for me.
