Sony Accidentally Disclosed The Number Of Players For Every Ps4 Game
As you probably know, Sony recently launched “My PS4 Life”, allowing players to share their gaming experience.
But what is also important, in every video they disclose the exact number of players who received some trophy. Combined with the % of people who obtained the trophy , we can estimate the total number of players in this game.
Here, 33,764 players earned the “Photo Bomber” trophy in Fallout 76. And on playstation.com it’s revealed that 8,3% of all players got this trophy. Simple math: the total number of people who have played Fallout 76 on PS4 = 33,764 * 100% / 8,3% = 406,795.
The same trick can be done with every PlayStation 4 game – you just need a video where it’s someone’s rarest trophy. But better not too rare – 0.1% share doesn’t provide a good estimate.

When you create a video on My PS4 Life, which is only available in the EU, you get data on some of your PS4 trophies. One of these is your rarest trophy. In the video it tells you how many other people have got the trophy.
With a quick calculation, you can then work out the player count per PS4 game. Genius!
The figures already calculated ring true when we take a look at some of the biggest games on PS4. For example:
So, we know which games are obviously going to do well, but theres some real surprises with some figures far less or more than we expected.
For example Fallout 76 with 407,000 players. That makes it less popular than Goat Simulator . Its also interesting to see Spyro not doing as well as expected with 679,000. Interestingly, that figure went down to 379,000 for Riptos Rage, the second game in the recently-released trilogy, suggesting a chunk of players didnt keep on playing.
There appeared to be a lot of interest in the Shenmue remasters too in the lead up to launch this year, but according to this data only 106,000 players played Shenmue and then that dropped to 42,800 for the second in the series.
Were also massively surprised if the Yakuza 6 numbers are correct. The data here suggests that it was played by only 182,000 PS4 owners.
At this point, were not sure about the accuracy of these totals, but you can bet right now that Sony will be looking at a way to hide these details as soon as possible.
What To Know Before Game Sharing On Ps4
Game sharing is a great feature that’s like sharing a book or a disc. Only one person needs to own it to allow the other person, on a different PS4, to “borrow” it. There are some caveats, though.
- Make sure you have Playstation Plus. In order to game share with someone, both you and the other gamer need their own PlayStation Plus subscriptions.
- Only game share with one other person at a time. If you attempt to game share with a third person, you run the risk that your account will be blocked, which will abruptly end your own gaming time.
- Be careful who you game share with. This process requires sharing your personal account information on another PS4, so only do it with people you trust.
Quick tip: While both players need to have a PlayStation Plus subscription, only the host needs to actually own the game.

Battlefield 2042 launches with full crossplay enabled, pooling console and PC players into the same multiplayer lobbies. Crossplay has emerged as a commonplace feature among many of the best shooters in 2021, providing full crossplay between Xbox, PlayStation, and PC systems.
Xbox One and PlayStation 4 do crossplay differently, with these versions of Battlefield 2042 separated in their own multiplayer lobbies. It makes sense, stripped back to 64-player matches, compared to the expanded 128-player support on other versions. Battlefield 2042 also supports crossplay between Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, although Xbox One and PS4 versions are excluded from these matches.
Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 players missing their friends on older systems have a workaround. Buying the game on a new console also includes an older Xbox One and PlayStation 4 version, playable via backward compatibility. While you won’t be getting the whole 128-player experience, it’s the only method to connect with friends who have yet to upgrade.
Steam Has More Monthly Active Users Than Both Xbox And Playstation
Valve has published its yearly round-up of Steam usage data, and the report reveals some interesting information about how the service compares to the PlayStation and Xbox platforms.
Steam’s 2020 data shows that the PC gaming platform has come out on top compared to both the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live when it comes to monthly active users.
According to Steam, the PC gaming hub has surpassed 120 million monthly active players, beating both PlayStation and Xbox Live in terms of usage.
Recently, we saw Steam break its own record when it comes to the number of concurrent players online, with the service logging over 25 million concurrent users on January 2.
Steam attributes at least some of the uptick in user engagement to the on-going coronavirus pandemic. People being forced to stay home and isolate means better engagement for the platform overall, it seems.
“While Steam was already seeing significant growth in 2020 before COVID-19 lockdowns, video game playtime surged when people started staying home, dramatically increasing the number of customers buying and playing games, and hopefully bringing some joy to counter-balance some of the craziness that was 2020” reads the report.
“This has led to new highs for monthly active users , daily active users , peak concurrent users , first-time purchasers , hours of playtime , and the number of games purchased .”

Quick tip: To let your friend take control of the game, you need a PlayStation Plus subscription. To play the game together in multiplayer mode, you both need to be PlayStation Plus members.
1. On the PS4’s Home screen, select Party, then choose Start Party.

Holy smokes. We all know that Fall Guys is popular right now, but if this updated figure is to be believed, it’s being played by a number of people that would make triple-A games jealous. The 60-player online battle royale title has captured the attention of pretty much everybody, including numerous gaming companies, and we know from this infographic that the game has sold over two million copies on Steam. On PlayStation 4, the game launched as part of PS Plus, meaning a vast number of people gained access to it for free. But how many people are actually playing?
According to gamstat, a website that tracks PlayStation Network players via Trophy data, Fall Guys has an incredibly healthy player base. The site claims the Devolver Digital title has 15.6 million active players as of 16th August. This is nearly double the estimation from a week prior.
This figure isn’t wholly accurate, nor does it represent sales, but it does provide us with a rough idea of how popular something is on PS4. As Rodelero points out on ResetEra, free-to-play shooter Fortnite reached 10 million players across all platforms after its first two weeks. Fall Guys is a small game, but a big deal, it seems.
