I had visited a friends house who had a PlayStation 2 console. I was so caught up with the story line and the series of adventures. Even when you watch people play, it was like you playing the game. I eventually fell in love with the game and saved to buy one for myself. PlayStation 2 introduced me to the gaming world. Says Charles Omukoro of Ikeja, Lagos.
Arguably, the PlayStation 2 console was the first home console with graphics that made people say wow! This looks so real.
To many gamers, it is a fact that video game visuals have drastically improved since the launch of PS2 in 2000. About 20 years ago, PlayStation 2 producers made the entire scenario seem like we were already living in the future.
The superb innovation challenged developers to create larger, more complex and upgraded designs over the PlayStation 2.
However, regardless of all the recent innovation in the PlayStation world, one could argue that that PS 2 lived much longer, considering the fact that several upgraded consoles have been manufactured over the years.
20 years ago today, we opened our hearts and our disc trays with the launch of PS2.

History Tends To Repeat Itself:
When the original PlayStation launched in 1995, it was priced at three hundred dollars. Back then, I would have had to save my allowance forwell, lets just say Id probably still be saving. The PlayStation 2 released five years later for the same price. Then of course we have outlier: the PlayStation 3. When that one released, it was a whopping six hundred dollars!
At the time, this seemed like a lot of money for a game system, but what most people didnt consider was that the PlayStation 3 was also a Blu-Ray player. Many stand alone Blu-Ray players of the time were close to a thousand dollars, so this was quite the deal in that regard.
Eventually, the price came down to compete with the Xbox 360, but the fact of the matter was that Sony was losing money, even with the six hundred dollar price point. The reason? The PlayStation 3 had new technology, something that was fresh, and costly. At the time, Blu-Ray was just beginning to hit the scene.
Now we look at the PlayStation 4 and we see a far different story. This new console is coming out at a four hundred dollar price point. Why the sudden drop? Well, as mentioned earlier, there are a number of factors that contributed to this price point.
The PlayStation 4 is the evolution of the PS3, but what about the PlayStation 5? This is where things can become expensive. You see, as mentioned in our other articles, the PlayStation 5 will be arriving in an era of massive technological change.
Michael Pachter Strikes Again
If youve been a long time reader here on PS5 Gamers, then you know we like to cover industry analyst Michael Pachters predictions as they are both relevant and interesting. Hes not always right, but he comes pretty close more often than not.
The latest news from him is a in June 2019 where he laid down some interesting predictions for Project Scarlett and PS5s price point:
The specs suggest $500 or so, but my bias is that Microsoft will announce $399 and Sony will follow suit.
I would love to see $399, but I find it hard to believe the new systems will go for that low. Its common knowledge that console manufacturers sell systems at a loss in the beginning. They reap the benefits later on when people buy accessories and games.
Even so, with the specs we are hearing about $399 would be a substantial loss. In Microsofts case, if the rumors are true about two consoles at launch , then we could have a base model for $399 and the enhanced for $499 or more, but nothing in the wind points to Sony have multiple consoles at launch.

After Grand Theft Auto 5 PS5 appeared at last night’s PlayStation Showcase, some players are poking fun at Rockstar for releasing the game for a third time.
In a clip posted to Twitter, streamer LordBalvin turns away from the camera as the game’s logo comes up, before yelling “they can’t keep getting away with this.” As the trailer welcomes players back to Los Santos and shows off the ‘expanded and enhanced’ features, he told viewers “I don’t want to go back,” before suggesting that despite the new-gen upgrade, “you can’t enhance the graphics any more than this, it already looks good,” and pointing out that you could switch between characters pretty easily when the game first released for PS3 and Xbox 360.

Launched almost thirteen years ago, Sonys PlayStation 2 has made an enormous impact on gaming. It didnt bring affordable, popular video games into the household like the NES did. It didnt popularize 3D graphics like the N64 did. It didnt blow everyones minds with some of the first 3D cutscenes like the PS1 did. It certainly didnt provide some kind of coherent online console gaming infrastructure like Microsoft did with the Xbox. Yet, somehow, the PS2 practically revolutionized gaming as we knew it, and now Sony has finally ceased production of the unit, almost 13 years after it first released.
Despite not having Nintendos loyal user base or Microsofts coherent online strategy, Sony managed to turn the gaming industry on its head. Two factors played a huge role in that, neither of which had much to do with actual video games. Aside from the Dreamcast, which died young partly due to how easy it was to pirate its games, the PlayStation 2 was the true first console of that generation. Being the first true next-gen console really gives sales a boost, as Microsoft experienced with its Xbox 360 holding a lead over the PS3 for quite some time.
