Unless youve been living under a rock or youre wrapping up a 24-hour marathon of Apex Legends, then youve probably heard about . In this exclusive interview with Wired magazine, the lead architect of the new system at Sony dropped a ton of info about the upcoming console from Sony, but he failed to mention anything about the price

Me: There’s always been a general range of launch pricing. Will the next console hew to that range?: I believe that we will be able to release it at an SRP that will be appealing to gamers in light of its advanced feature set.

So, it sounds like it will be more than the PS4, but also within a reasonable range. To me, this further enhances our $499 price point, as Microsoft made similar claims about the Xbox One Xs price point prior to its launch.
We also need to remember that Sony didnt have much luck last time they tried to charge $599 for a system, so its hard to imagine they would push the price that high. That being said, rumor has it that Sony will sell the systems at a $100 loss per console at launch, so if we take a $599 price point and subtract $100, then we come to our predicted price of $499.
Dualshock Sixaxis And Dualsense
Released in 1998, the DualShock controller for the PlayStation succeeded its predecessor, the Dual Analog, and became the longest running series of controllers for the PlayStation brand. In addition to the inputs of the original, digital, controller , the DualShock featured two analog sticks in a similar fashion to the previous Dual Analog controller, which can also be depressed to activate the L3 and R3 buttons.
The DualShock series consists of four controllers: the DualShock which was the fourth controller released for the PlayStation the DualShock 2, the only standard controller released for the PlayStation 2, and the DualShock 3, the second and current controller released for the PlayStation 3, and the DualShock 4, which went through a massive redesign and is the default input of the PlayStation 4, and upon release was compatible with the PS3 originally only via USB and eventually with a firmware update, Bluetooth connectivity was enabled. The Sixaxis was the first official controller for the PlayStation 3, and is based on the same design as the DualShock series .

Thanks to COVID-19 complications, semiconductor shortages and overwhelming demand, the PlayStation 5 has remained extremely sought after since release.

The PSVR 2 is coming, that much is confirmed, but what else do we know about the next gen VR headset designed exclusively for PlayStation 5?
Sony’s announcement of the PS5 left many gamers questioning the future of virtual reality gaming on the PlayStation platform. Luckily for console-based VR fans, Sony did announce a next gen VR headset for PlayStation earlier this year – the unofficially named PSVR 2.
The PSVR is currently the only VR headset available from the three major console makers and still offers gamers a lot of value, which is clear from our PSVR review. While the tech will supposedly work with some existing TVs, to get the full experience here and now, you need the PS5 Pulse 3D Wireless headset.
At $99/£89 its surprisingly affordable for a gaming headset that needs to be used with proprietary tech. But that still means youre adding another chunk of change to the overall price of the PS5.

At Sony Music Entertainment, Kutaragi worked closely with Shigeo Maruyama, the CEO of Sony Music, and with Akira Sato to form Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. on November 16, 1993. A building block of SCEI was its initial partnership with Sony Music which helped SCEI attract creative talent to the company as well as assist SCEI in manufacturing, marketing and producing discs, something that Sony Music had been doing with Music Discs. Sony hasn’t released the dimensions, but you can use the size of the disc drive as a guide. By that measure, it’s likely the console is noticeably taller than the PS4 Pro and even larger than the famously chunky original Xbox One. That is a very rough guesstimate, however, and should be treated as such, but it already has us glancing at our home entertainment rack with concern.
To your other question, yes, it will lie flat. Sony released images of the console in the horizontal position with it sitting on some kind of stand. It’s not, we hasten to add, the console’s most flattering angle. Like the chunky Xbox Series X, the PS5 is clearly designed to be stood tall.
It’s also worth noting there are two versions of the console. One with a 4K Blu-ray drive and one is the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition and has no optical drive ideal for people who won’t mind paying over the odds for their games.
How much will the PS5 cost?: We still don’t know for sure, but rumours suggest it could cost between £500 to £600 as this generation is proving expensive to produce compared to the PS4 and Xbox One at launch.
When is the PS5 coming out?: Again, we have no confirmed date other than “later this year” but October or November seems a safe bet.
When I can pre-order the PS5?: Still no word on that, either. You’ll just have to wait.

Every company plays this game. The base MSRP of the Apple MacBook Air is $1,199, but it comes with a tiny 128GB SSD. Youll pay $1,399 for the 256GB model. The starts at $800, but only has 64GB of space. The 128GB version is $100 more.
Sony will face the same issue with the PS5. It might offer an entry-level version with 256GB of space but most gamers know thats enough for just a few games. The model most people want will have a 512GB drive and be more expensive. Want the 1TB model? Expect to pay at least $100, perhaps even $200, more than the base price.
Offering a slim-storage model is a tactic Sony could use to hit a lower-than-expected price point while maintaining a higher price for the version most people buy. Ill be surprised if Sony doesnt go this route.
