Sony Is Removing Another Ps4 Feature

How to Create PS4 Community or Join/Leave Community

PlayStation Communities is being discontinued in April

Update: Sony has confirmed on its website that the PlayStation Communities feature will no longer be available, starting April 2021. PlayStation Communities is now listed under ‘Discontinued PlayStation apps, features and services’, with a statement that reads:

“Thank you for using the PS Communities feature on your PS4 console. Beginning in April 2021, this feature will no longer be supported or available on your PS4 console.

“However, you’ll still be able to stay connected and enjoy messaging features and more on your PS4 and the PlayStation App.”

TechRadar has contacted Sony for further comment.

Original Story: Sony is shutting down another PS4 feature next month, as part of an ongoing update for the last-gen console.

The PlayStation Communities feature is to be axed in April, according to an email sent to PlayStation 4 owners ). Communities allowed for PS4 players with shared interests to come together to play games, form parties, share screenshots and chat about topics related to their interest.

The feature’s discontinuation isn’t a huge shock given that Sony terminated the PlayStation Communities app in March last year, and that the ability to create private parties was removed from the PS4 last year. In addition, the patch notes for the ongoing 8.5 beta update for the PS4 apparently mentioned the removal of the feature .

  • Ps4 Communities Are Going For Good

The 8.50 PlayStation Software Update is slowly being rolled out in Beta form and it seems like the PS4 Communities feature is the next major part of the PS4 system that’s getting the axe.

Due to release fully in Spring 2021, it appears that the feature is being removed altogether in the latest update.

Communities on PS4 were useful as they could be used to find game sessions, discuss the latest titles, and plan any online activities.

    Another One Bites The Dust

This is the second PS4 feature we’ve seen Sony remove recently. Earlier this month, the company announced that users will no longer be able to rent or purchase movies or TV shows from the PlayStation Store when using a PS5, PS4 or PS4 Pro.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Sony pointed towards the tremendous growth from PlayStation fans using subscription-based and ad-based entertainment services on our consoles as the reason behind that decision.

Sony has said the change will take effect on August 31, 2021 and that users can still access movie and TV content they’ve purchased through the PlayStation Store for on-demand playback.

While we’re not expecting Sony to stop supporting the PS4 anytime soon, it does seem that the company is winding down on any PlayStation 4 features it feels aren’t essential.

Sony Is Shutting Down All Ps4 Communities In April

7 Day ps plus trial for someone... : PS4

Spare a thought out there for all the many communities on PlayStation 4. Sony recently announced that they would be closing down the communities feature on their last generation console it didnt reappear on PlayStation 5 in April. As Sonys focus shifts towards supporting their newest console, its only natural that features on PS4 that were once considered new and exciting get quietly forgotten and shut down. In a statement that they sent to users via email and online, they outlined that the feature would be closed to everyone next month.

Thank you for using the Communities feature on your PlayStation®4 console. Beginning in April 2021, this feature will no longer be supported or available on your PS4 console.

However, you will still be able to stay connected and enjoy messaging features and more on your PS4 console and PlayStation®App.

The community feature was a novel addition back in 2015, creating spaces for fans of games and topics to stay within the PlayStation ecosystem and jump into games together. There were communities themed around games or interests but also sub-groups within games .

In a rudimentary way, it was a basic version of Discord or an equivalent messaging service. However, when you joined a community there wasnt a way to mute notifications like on Discord, so having to delete notifications about a community that you were interested in but only from time to time got annoying quickly.

Check Your Fortnite Voice Chat Channels

Make sure you’re in the right voice chat channel. If you’re in the incorrect channel this may cause issues with you being able to hear teammates if you are cross-playing on multiple platforms.

Fortnite has two channels to use: Party Channel and Game Channel. In-game, you can switch between chat channels using the Social menu:

    • Party Channel connects players in the same party .
    • Game Channel connects players on the same team but in different parties .

You might also be in Xbox or PlayStation Party Chat, both of which will keep Fortnite’s voice chat from working.

If you want to use Fortnites voice chat, you must leave Xbox or PlayStation Party Chat to use Fortnite voice chat, even if nobody else is there. If you don’t know how to leave Xbox or PlayStation Party Chat, please check out Microsoft or Sony support.

Are You A Playstation Communities User

If so, you’re probably going to miss the feature. While Sony shelved the dedicated app for Communities, it still seems a little odd that it would close the service down entirely. This is a great way to meet strangers who are like-minded players of the same titles.

Unless Sony expands the PlayStation messages function so you can link up and party chat with strangers from inside the service, how are gamers otherwise going to build a community around the games that they play?

Ps4 Communities Feature Shuts Down In April Sony Confirms

The PlayStation 4 communities feature shuts down in April, Sony has confirmed.

You will, however, be able to stay connected and use messaging features on your PS4 and the PlayStation App, Sony said in an update on PlayStation.com.

The communities feature, added to PS4 with the 3.00 update in September 2015, lets you create communities based around shared interests, such as games and genres. Communities include a message board with general discussion, screenshots shared by players, and the ability to join parties / games.

The writing was on the wall, though: in March last year Sony canned the PlayStation Communities mobile app, and then patch notes released alongside the PS4’s 8.5 update beta warned of the removal of communities from the console.

What Is The Playstation Communities Feature

Sony has the answer to that on the PS4 User Guide’s About Communities page. It says:

Communities are places where you can find players who have similar interests and preferences. You can play games or have parties with other Community members, or talk about your shared interests within that Community.

So, if you wanted to party up with people who play the same title as you, you can. Well, until April, anyway. This service is only available on PS4 PS5 users will never have seen it on their console.

If you want to grab a last bit of PlayStation Communities action before the service retires, then it is still possible. If you struggle to find other players for certain games, this might help you party up.

  • Why Is Sony Closing Playstation Communities

Sony closed support for its PlayStation Communities mobile app in March 2020. You can see this via the above linked page. So this probably doesn’t come as a surprise to people who previously used the Communities app.

Why Sony has done this remains a mystery. The above notice continues:

However, you’ll still be able to stay connected and enjoy messaging features and more on your PS4 and the PlayStation App.

So, obviously Sony wants you to make more use of the Messenger function that is available across devices, both natively on the console and on the PlayStation mobile app.

Sony Will Kill Off Ps4 Communities In April

Sony has announced that it will be ending support for the Communities feature on PS4. The company confirmed that Communities will no longer be available from April, and it seems the intent is to get people to use the messaging and PS app instead to communicate with others. Sony released a statement that you can read below.

Thank you for using the Communities feature on your PlayStation®4 console. Beginning in April 2021, this feature will no longer be supported or available on your PS4 console.

However, you will still be able to stay connected and enjoy messaging features and more on your PS4 console and PlayStation®App.

Having debuted in 2015, there are thousands of communities in the PS4 ecosystem, with a mixture of official communities and fan-created groups, and varying levels of activity depending on the game. It seems Sony has weighed up the benefits of keeping communities running and decided they just are not worth maintaining long term.

The date of this removal may coincide with the release of system update 8.5, with one of the elements of that being the removal of Communities. The update is focused mainly on slight changes such as requesting being able to join a game session, allowing the host to send an invite, and not showing others what games youre playing if youve hidden that game.

Is Sony Making A Mistake Closing Playstation Communities

Jailbreaking your PS4 just got a LOT easier. Here’s how.

PlayStation Communities is leaving PS4 in April, but has Sony really considered the impact of killing the service?

Sonys announcement about PlayStation Communities closing down has drawn mixed opinions. Some gamers are indifferent, while others are experiencing a great loss.

The features fanbase may not be big enough for Sony to consider saving it, but its clearly a mistake to think that PlayStation Communities are redundant. If the emotional impact on its loyal users isnt enough, the companys latest rash decision risks sending more customers to its rivals.

  • How Much Longer Will Ps4 Be Supported

While the transition may last three years, it’s likely that those three years will involve gradually winding PS4 development down, while focusing more on those exclusive PS5 titles.
