If you want to dodge punches in GTA 5, youll need to pay close attention to your opponent. If you are not currently throwing a punch, you can hit the button assigned to dodge. Normally, this is the same button that would allow you to jump if you werent in a brawl. Then, you can counterattack with a swift punch of your own if your dodge is successful.

Melee combat in GTA 5 and Online is stiff, to say the least. Youll want to lock on to a single enemy. Usually, this is the same button that would normally aim a weapon bumpers on controllers, right mouse on keyboard. This will make your character start swinging for the fences, but in the direction of your enemy. Itll also make it significantly easier to dodge your foes attacks. At the very least, the counter attacks will land better.
