Transfer Saves Via Usb
Similar to the above, you can transfer saved data from your PS4 to your PS5 via an external devicein this case, a USB stick.
Select Application Saved Data Management in the Settings menu. Its worth noting that the PS4 wont copy saves to anything formatted as extended storage, meaning that you cant transfer your saves to an external HDD like the one mentioned above.
Select the option to Copy to USB Storage Device. Select the data that you want to move from the list of games that pops up. As mentioned above, you can move multiple saves from a single game.
Select the saves of your choice, then hit Copy. This will put the games on your USB device.
To safely remove the USB device, go to the Devices menu in Settings, navigate to the USB Storage Devices submenu, and select the device in question. Finally, choose Stop Using This USB Storage Device. You can then safely remove it from the PS4.
Next, plug the USB device into your PS5 and go to Settings. Scroll down to Saved Data and Game/App Settings.
From there, go to Saved Data and select USB Drive.
Then, Copy to Console Storage.
If the game hasnt already been downloaded to the PS5, the saved data will be called Non-Installed Game or App, but you can copy it to the console regardless. The saves will be there when you install and boot up the game.

How To Transfer All Data From Ps4 To Ps5
Depending on your situation, and if you have a great number of games, apps, and other features you wish to quickly move over from your PS4, this may be the most straightforward option – but will involve a lot of moving parts. This method will only transfer data from one user, and does not apply to any data stored in extended storage. For this method you’ll need:
- Powered PS4 with an internet connection
- Powered PS5 with an internet connection
- TV or monitor to view progress
To begin, please make sure your PS4 has the latest software update possible.
On your PS5, after you complete your initial setup, the option for a full Data Transfer may appear. If you declined it at the time, you can find it again by going to Settings > System > System Software > Data Transfer.
At this point, you’ll be asked to have both consoles turned on and be connected to the internet. If you only have wifi available in your current setup, it is highly recommended you at least connect a LAN cable between the two consoles for faster transfer speeds.
Once both consoles are signed in on the same account, continue with the transfer process until you are told to press the power button down on the PS4 for one second until you hear a beep. This will restart the PS4, and upon reset, you will see it begin to prepare for the data transfer. Be sure not touch either console during this period, or any LAN cables that may be attached.
Auto Sync Your Trophies
If you want your trophies to appear on your new console, you just need to sync them with the account and they will automatically appear on the PlayStation 5. In order to sync trophies from your PS4, you need to follow these steps:
- Here you can Turn On syncing your trophies everywhere on the PlayStation Network.
Transfer Games And Save Files Over Wi
If you have a couple Ethernet cables handy, connecting both consoles to your router is the easiest and most versatile way to transfer both game and save data. This way you can copy the game files themselves along with all your saves, preventing you from having to re-download them over the internet.
You can also connect both consoles to the same Wi-Fi network, instead of using an Ethernet cable. However, this is going to be much slower than using wires. If theres no TV near your router, a computer monitor will do in a pinchotherwise you’ll either need some long Ethernet cables or long HDMI cables.
To transfer your data, boot up your PS4 console and make sure its using the latest version of the PlayStation software. From the main menu, head to Settings > System Software Update and choose Upgrade Now.
Then, connect each console to your router with an Ethernet cable. On your PS5, make sure you’re logged in using the same PlayStation Network account as your PS4, then head to Settings > System > System Software and select Data Transfer. Follow the on-screen instructions to move everything overyou’ll select which game saves you want to move, which sets of game files you want to move, and any other apps you may want to migrate.
When you’re ready to start the transfer, you’ll be prompted to press the power button on your PS4, and both systems will restart.

Begin The Transfer Process
After the PlayStation 4 Pro restarts, it will ask you if you wish to transfer data from an older PlayStation 4 to your new model. If you did not receive this prompt, you can also find the option under the System section of the settings menu.
Select Yes, follow the on-screen instructions, and the system will begin scanning your Wi-Fi network for another console. After finding both systems on the same network, it will ask you to connect the two with an Ethernet cable. The good news is that if youve made it this far into the process, youve already hooked up that Ethernet cable.
After that, the new PlayStation 4 Pro will prompt you to press and hold the power button located on the console for several seconds. Youll know you can let go when the console beeps Once you hear that, the PlayStation will take over and transfer the data. To give you an idea of how long this may take to transfer fully, we transferred roughly 300 GB of data in our test, and it took around sixty minutes to finish.
What About External Hard Drives
You can simply unplug your external drive from your old PS4 and plug it into your new one. It will function just as it did before. Unfortunately it’s not possible to connect two hard drives and transfer data between them. The PS4 uses an encrypted file system that makes it impossible to do this on a PC or Mac either.
The best way to transfer data between two USB drives is to copy your capture gallery to an external USB device using the Settings > Storage menu, then reinstall or re-download application data.
You can also try using the internal storage as an intermediary , but since most of us connect external drives when our internal storage fills up, this is likely not an option for most users.
