It’s safe to say the PS Camera is far from an essential PS4 accessory, unless you have PlayStation VR. If you’re picking up the VR headset, make sure you either get a bundle or a Camera separately, because you must have it for VR.
For everyone else, it’s tough to recommend the PlayStation Camera. The Playroom is a minor distraction that you probably won’t spend much time with, and the games with Camera integration are both slim and underwhelming. Having the system log you in automatically by facial recognition is neat, but if you’re the only user on your PS4 it’s a moot point.
And the voice commands for launching games and similar are available with any headset or microphone, so they’re not a reason to pick up a Camera. You’re better off putting the money towards a better gaming headset instead.
So unless you’re buying it for VR, we only recommend the PlayStation Camera if you regularly stream your gameplay. The PS4 already makes streaming a simple affair, and adding a Camera so your viewers can watch your face is also easy.
Otherwise, the investment doesn’t get you enough to justify the cost. This is especially the case as the PS4 is phased out and accessories aren’t available at a reasonable price from official sellers any more.

And maybe a studio will finally dare to develop role-playing milestones like Pillars of Eternity, Dragon Age, or Divinity: Original Sin for VR? Im also convinced that a FIFA in VR would be a revelation.

Playstation Brand Vs Other Brands
Playstation headsets are typically sold as bundles with a VR game, and this is the most cost-effective way of getting a headset thats compatible with Playstation games, and you get a game at the same time. So buying a Playstation headset as a bundle is something of a no brainer.
You will also have to buy from the Playstation brand for your controllers. But this is not the case for your audio equipment and charging stations, and youre safe to go off brand for these items.
Oculus Quest 2 Vs Playstation Vr: Cost
The cheapest version of the Oculus Quest 2 is $299/£299, and the more expensive version is $399/£399. Whichever version you buy includes everything you need to get going.
For the PSVR, well assume that you already own a PS4 and/or PS5 . The headset packaged with camera costs roughly $299/£249. That doesnt include the Move controllers, which are necessary for certain games. These are surprisingly difficult to find and will probably set you back about $99/£99 for a pair if you can find them.
Long-term however, PSVR may work out cheaper. Some games are available physically, which means that you can shop around for the best price, buy second-hand, and trade in when youre done. In addition, when PSVR games are on sale on the PlayStation Store, the discounts are better than those found on the Oculus/Meta store.

The Oculus Quest 2 is entirely wireless. You dont even need to plug it into a PC for setup just connect it to your WiFi, and everything can be sorted with nothing more than the headset and controllers that came in the box. Its an entirely self-sufficient unit with no need for a PC, console, or external camera in order to download and play games, videos, and apps. The two Touch controllers, with their minimalist design, are surprisingly light and intuitive to use. It may seem somewhat backwards-looking that they run on AA batteries but, depending on how often you use the headset, these batteries can easily last for weeks, or even months.
On the downside, the standard head strap can be rather fiddly to adjust, which could prove frustrating if you plan for more than one person to use it on a regular basis. Its also worth noting that on initial setup, you must draw a Guardian area within your intended play space. This entails using the forward-facing camera to view your surroundings and drawing a safe play space that the Quest is happy with. The Quest may demand that you draw it again if it doesnt recognize your surroundings when you next turn it on.
The PlayStation VR is, like the Quest, perfectly comfortable to wear for extended periods . Theres no getting round the fact that using the PSVR means having cables trailing along the floor though, with the headset plugging into a box which itself then plugs into the console, power adapter, and TV.
