Although there are still some excellent upcoming PS4 games, we’ve not included the likes of Elden Ring or Horizon Forbidden West because they are best experienced on the latest gen hardware if you’re able to do that.
But, what’s great is that all of these are also playable on PS5, with some coming with snazzy graphical and performance upgrades for free. Plus, if you’ve missed out on any of them, there are so many of the top PS4 games available as part of the PlayStation Plus Collection too, which is an exclusive library of titles available to PS5 owners as part of their PS Plus subscription. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is without question the most ambitious entry in the Metal Gear series. So ambitious, in fact, that its something of an unfinished masterpiece. While a lot of hardcore fans of the series were disappointed by the games scattered story, its hard to deny that the moment-to-moment gameplay is absolutely phenomenal. On top of rock-solid movement and a huge, sometimes literal, sandbox to explore, The Phantom Pain gives players a huge arsenal of weapons, vehicles, gadgets, and AI companions to approach missions creatively. As always, stealthy tactical gameplay is rewarded heavily, but if a mission goes sideways the game doesnt punish you too hard for getting get loud and messy. Even if youve never played another Metal Gear game, this is a hell of an experience. If the plot leaves you with a big question mark over your head, dont feel left out. Thats part of the fun.

Uncharted : A Thief’s End
The true successes of Uncharted 4 lie in the details. Oh, sure, you have the big action set-pieces that the series is known for, where everything hero Nathan Drake touches falls apart around him in Michael Bay levels of destruction. And the attention to detail in those moments – how wood splinters into pieces under gunfire, or how Nathan’s clothing gets caked in mud during a high-octane car chase – certainly makes it shine as a bit of impressive tech to show off to your friends. But it’s how Uncharted nails the small moments that makes it truly great. For the first time in the series, Naughty Dog has given the series’ characters some room to grow as actual people, filling in the details where you least expect them to, and these smaller moments make the big ones feel all that more impactful. As explosive as Uncharted 4 is, it’s also deeply personal – and it’s a hell of a showpiece for your PS4, to boot.

Final Fantasy Vii Remake
This has divided fans of the original Final Fantasy VII more than the Advent Children movie ever did, and thats really saying something. Love or loathe the concept of it, Final Fantasy VII Remake is gorgeous on PS4, and has a fantastic action battle system that changes with each character you take control of. While this only covers a fraction of Final Fantasy VIIs plot, Remake moves things in an entirely new direction that should make fans very excited to see whats in store for the future of this new story.
Wolfenstein : The New Colossus
Doubling down on all the intelligence, uncompromising emotional grit, and giddy, hilariously brutal Nazi killing that made its predecessor such a special game, Wolfenstein 2 has an even lesser tolerance for messing about. Transposing BJ Blazkowicz’s intensely personal war to an alternative ’60s America twisted into an ugly parody of itself by Nazi rule, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus brings the same aggressive focus on combat and character, alongside a newfound relevance and indignation. Not that it’s all seriousness and soul-searching. Wolfenstein’s kinetic, high-risk, high-reward combat is even better tuned up, with customizable dual-wielding laying on even more strategic carnage, just as hatchets and exo abilities blow up the stealth. Brainy, brawny, big, brash, and beautiful, MachineGames’ new wave of Wolfenstein remains some of the smartest and most unique FPS around.

Ghost Of Tsushima Fox Dens And Inari Shrines
There are Ghost of Tsushima fox dens and inari shrines all over the world for you to find. These little spots of worship are more than just a moment of respite because praying at them will gradually increase the number of stat-buffing charms you can equip. The more you find, the more you can improve various character attributes so it’s a good idea to drop in on as many as you can find.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake
After a long wait, the 2020 remake of Final Fantasy 7 revitalizes one of the most beloved JRPGs of all time in a successful and engaging way. This new version of Midgard probably isn’t just how your brain remembers it looking it’s much better, with a stunning, detailed, and immersive exploration of the steampunk city.
Since part one of ‘Remake’ takes place entirely within Midgard, Square Enix is able to really spend time with the city’s ensemble cast, giving them more nuance and screentime to round out the adventure. And that’s on top of its stellar combat system, a marriage of real-time and more tactical, turn-based systems to create something that’s wholly unique and a joy to master. It’s also perhaps Naughty Dog’s most mechanically complex game to date, and its stealth and action systems delivers moment after moment that feel like they should be scripted but are instead entirely dynamic. It may be one of the more divisive games of the generation, but its also one of the best an absolute haymaker of a game we still can’t stop thinking about.

While Nathan Drake established himself as a compelling lead over the course of the four core Uncharted games, 2017s Uncharted: The Lost Legacy proved that the same was true for Drake’s supporting cast.
