With haptics, you truly feel a broader range of feedback, so crashing into a wall in a race car feels much different than making a tackle on the football field. You can even get a sense for a variety of textures when running through fields of grass or plodding through mud.

The second innovation is something we call adaptive triggers, which have been incorporated into the trigger buttons . Developers can program the resistance of the triggers so that you feel the tactile sensation of drawing a bow and arrow or accelerating an off-road vehicle through rocky terrain. In combination with the haptics, this can produce a powerful experience that better simulates various actions. Game creators have started to receive early versions of the new controller, and we can’t wait to see where their imagination goes with these new features at their disposal.

Aside from the vast differences between the two machines, the PS5 will offer a new take on the PlayStation 4 controller dropping the DualShock moniker entirely. Instead, the PS5 will come with the DualSense, a controller that is designed to feature better battery life, adaptive triggers, and most impressively, haptic feedback. The idea with adaptive triggers is to offer varying degrees of resistance depending on what youre doing in-game. For example, firing a bow will feel wildly different than firing an automatic machine gun, which will feel different from a shotgun.

The varying amount of tension is meant to make the player feel more immersed. Haptic feedback works similarly, but with the controllers vibration. Dynamic vibrations will be used to depict different surfaces or even showcase recoil with weapons. It will be up to the developer to design with adaptive triggers and haptic feedback in mind, so we hope games on PS5 will continue to include support for it. Based on early previews of the PS5, the DualSense seems to be the shining star.

Despite that, the DualSense and DualShock 4 have many similar features. Each offers the expected identical button layouts. One difference is that the Create button has recently replaced the Share button, which allows users to live stream games and share screenshots and videos with other users. There is no doubt that between these two consoles, the PS5 is superior in nearly every aspect. With far more advanced technology and the ability to play your old PS4 games, it’s an easy choice. Unless the PS4 Pro drops drastically in price, we’d recommend anyone looking for a new console to get the PS5 Digital Edition at the very least. It costs just as much as the PS4 Pro usually, and you’re getting a better system. As time goes on, PS5 restocks will become more common, and the console will be easier to get ahold of while the PS4 Pro will be harder and harder to get.

Already, it’s borderline impossible to find a brand new PS4 Pro at or under its launch price. So unless you see a truly spectacular deal, don’t waste your money. Instead, just keep trying to get a PS5.

After months of speculation and questionable concept designs from eager fans, Sony has finally revealed what the PS5 looks like. And honestly, I think it’s hideous…

The PS5 has a polarizing design to say the least. At a glance, it produces the same reaction as when you put a spoon of Marmite in your mouth for the very first time you either wrench in disgust or are pleasantly surprised. There’s no in between .

If you were to be kind, though, you could say the PS5 is reminiscent of something the PC manufacturer Alienware would produce. But I personally agree with the less flattering comparisons that are floating around the internet: Sonys console does look like a Wi-Fi router or a cheap knock-off.

From its strange popped collar to its inhaled middle and two-tone color scheme, the PS5 is at odds with almost every piece of technology I’ve ever owned. Theres no getting away from the fact this is a gaming console, either, and Sony seemingly wants everyone to know it. While I have no qualms with that, Id still prefer something that doesnt stick out like a sore thumb. A console should, ideally, complement my existing home entertainment devices, particularly if its going to be around for five plus years.

How Do You Install The Stand For The Horizontal Ps5

1. Rotate the base of the PlayStation 5s stand so that the raised section and the hooks are not aligned.

2. Lay down the PS5 on its front, so that the rear of the console is pointing upward. Look at the systems rear port array. Beneath the leftmost USB port, etched into the lower white plastic fin there, youll see a repeating pattern of the PlayStation face buttons: square, circle, triangle, X.

3. Line up the stand with these icons, slotting the hooks into the squares on either end of the pattern, and push the hooks into place. Make sure to push in the hooks as far as theyll go to create as secure an attachment as possible.

4. Make sure the console is balanced properly on the raised part of the stand, and set the console on a flat surface.

Sony’s released a few different PS4s â like the PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro â over the years, but the company has only ever shipped one upon its initial launch. That’s set to change with the PS5. Sony unveiled a digital edition of the PS5, which drops the disc drive in addition to the normal PS5.

Ps5 Designer: When I Started Drawing It Was Much Larger

At the start of Sonys June Future of Gaming event, Yujin Morisawa was shaking. As Senior Art Director, Morisawa was responsible for designing the PS5, which was about to be revealed to the public for the first time.

There was so much pressure on me, Morisawa said.

With its striking white and black color scheme and blue lighting elements, the design of the PS5 was a radical departure from previous PlayStation consoles. The unveiling sent the Internet into a tizzy, as Twitter and Reddit users couldnt help but poke fun at the PS5s likeness to routers, humidifiers and even the Eye of Sauron. But Morisawa was not fazed by those playful comparisons he was encouraged.

When you design something, you want to make it feel comfortable. Sometimes it looks like a plant or some animal or some object. I think thats more comfortable than something thats weird, or something that theyve never seen before, Morisawa said.

As more information about the system came to light, something else became apparent. The PlayStation was huge, significantly larger than the Xbox Series X or any previous PlayStation console. But originally, Morisawa thought it needed to be even bigger.

When I started drawing, it was much larger even though I didnt know what engineering was going to do,” Morisawa said. Its kind of funny that engineering actually told me its too big. So, I actually had to shrink it down a little bit from the first drawing.

With a powerful 8-core AMD Zen 2 processor, 10.3 teraflops of graphics power and a ridiculously fast custom SSD, the PS5 promises some of the best performance to ever come out of a games console. And while Ive only played a handful of titles that are designed to harness the PS5s power, Im already impressed by what Sonys console is able to pump out in terms of fidelity, framerate and, most importantly, load speeds.

This shouldnt come as a shock, but games look fantastic running on Sonys new console. Spider-Man: Miles Morales looked more akin to a high-end PC game than a PlayStation title, as I gawked at the gorgeous reds and purples of Spider-Man and his enemies popping off the screen in 4K. Thanks to the consoles ray-tracing support, Manhattans skyscrapers reflected off one another realistically, as did a series of lifelike puddles in a busy Times Square.

The PS5 version of Miles Morales has a special Performance mode, which turns off effects such as ray tracing and uses upscaled 4K in favor of a higher framerate. When I switched to this mode and zipped through the city at a silky 60 frames per second while still enjoying beautiful visuals, I felt like I was experiencing something that simply couldnt be done on previous-gen consoles. This made it extremely hard to go back to the PS4 version of Miles Morales, which often chugged below 30 frames per second.
