The moment many of us have been waiting for is here: Sony has, finally, revealed that its PlayStation 5 is set to launch on November 12. The company’s long-awaited gaming console is going to cost $399 for the disc-less Digital Edition and $499 for the more powerful version. That’s a similar pricing model as what we saw with Microsoft’s own next-generation consoles, the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X, which are $299 and $499, respectively. So, when can you pre-order your PS5? Well, Sony says that’s happening as early as tomorrow, September 17, at “select retailers.”
Get your wallet ready While Sony didn’t say which retailers, exactly, it is referring to in its tweet, we know , GameStop, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart all have landing pages for the PlayStation 5 ready to go. That means you should bookmarked those sites if you haven’t already, so you pick your console of choice and pay up as soon as they flip the switch on releasing their inventory or at least some of it.
Still, the next-gen console wars are just getting started, and who knows what tricks Sony may have up its sleeve to make the PS5 a better choice.

The three new DualSense wireless controllers will cost $74.99, which is in line with the Cosmic Red controller, but slightly more expensive than the Midnight Black and original white controllers .

PlayStation 5 pre-orders are open, but the situation is a bit of a disaster. When Sony announced pricing details for its next-generation game console on Wednesdayconfirming that the standard PS5 would cost $499, while a Digital Edition without a disc drive would cost $399it officially stated that preorders would begin on Thursday, September 17. The company did not specify when or where these orders would be available, however, merely saying that eager customers could pick the device up at “select retailers.”
The period since has been chaos. Major retailers like Walmart, Target, and Best Buy instead made the console available a few hours after Sony’s game showcase on Wednesday. This naturally led to a rush of gamers flooding these storefronts in order to secure their own machine in time for its November 12 release date, which in turn resulted in broken links, site crashes, and extremely quick stock shortages. GameStop saw enough traffic for its site to trigger some sort of DDoS protection, while Best Buy’s online store was intermittently inaccessible Thursday morning.
