New Models Are About 13 Percent Lighter Than 2020’s Hefty Launch

At its launch in 2020, the PlayStation 5 wasn’t just one of the biggest game consoles ever made. It was also one of the heaviest, with the full-fledged Disc Drive Edition weighing in at 9.9 pounds and the Digital Edition hitting 8.6 lbs . Today, though, the eagle-eyed reporters at Press Start have noted the release of a new set of PS5 models that weigh about 13 percent less than their launch counterparts.
The new PS5 models first showed up on some Japanese retail sites over the weekend with a planned September 15 launch date. But Press Start reports that the new models are on shelves in many Australian retailers right now, including manuals listing their official weights at 8.6 lbs for the Disc Drive Edition and 7.5 lbs for the Digital Edition. No other changes are apparent in either the size of the system’s casing or the listed system specs, according to the report.

Many of the games will offer a high-fidelity mode or high-framerate mode that allows you to choose between prioritizing resolution or framerate per-game.
Some games also offer an optional upgrade path for PS4 owners of the game to the PS5 version.

The PS5 DualSense controller just might be the most next-gen thing about Sonys new console. The gamepads haptic feedback, adaptive triggers and built-in speaker work together brilliantly, creating a level of tactile immersion Ive simply never experienced while playing a game before.
The DualSense especially shines in Astros Playroom, a free, pre-installed title built specifically to showcase what Sonys new controller can do. In this colorful 3D platformer, you can feel and hear the subtle impact of grains of sand while walking through a storm, or experience a smooth gliding sensation when skating over ice, just to name a few examples. Everything from pulling on a rope to gliding around in a jetpack generates an extremely detailed level of force feedback. Its the kind of thing you truly need to feel to believe.

The adaptive triggers are especially impressive, as they can become harder to actuate based on whats happening in-game. For example, the triggers gave much more resistance when I was controlling my character in a spring-loaded jumpsuit, accurately replicating the feeling of pushing down on a spring and releasing it. Games can even take advantage of the DualSenses built-in microphone, as I had to blow on the controller to move a platform of ice in Astros Playroom.

Best Buy’s Ps5 Launch And Black Friday
On launch day, Best Buy will only have Pick Up Orders for those who pre-ordered consoles, and those will be by appointment only. If additional units are present, gamers can try to get one, but they’ll have to do it online instead of hanging around the store. For those who ordered from Best Buy for delivery, they should check their Best Buy account for approximate shipping date or arrival date.
Best Buy also plans to have some additional units on November 27th. Best Buy promised last week that more PS5s would be available for Black Friday, but not in store. Best Buy recently released a statement that it wasn’t selling PS5s in store until 2021, leaving all those extra units available through the company’s website and nowhere else. Thus far, it also doesn’t appear that Best Buy will have any sales on the PS5 for Black Friday, and will be selling the consoles, games, and accessories at full price.
Best Buy does not have any new PS5 pre-orders available at this time, and will most likely not have anymore available until Black Friday.
What’s So Special About The Dualsense Controller
The PS5’s new controller is the DualSense, and it’s required to play any PS5 games. It retains some of the DualShock 4’s innovations, such as the touchpad, lightbar, and built-in speakers, but it introduces a number of new features. Those include an integrated mic , haptic feedback, and adaptive triggers. Haptic feedback allows for a more nuanced style of vibration that can more accurately reflect the in-game action. Adaptive triggers allow the triggers to also provide feedback, such as providing tension when drawing the string on a bow. When Is The Ratchet And Clank: Rift Apart Release Date
While we don’t know the exact release date for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, we can make some assumptions based on what happened with Infamous: Second Son. Sucker Punch’s exclusive acted as a primer for 2014’s array of exclusives, releasing shortly before the first fiscal quarter concluded on March 31.
With this in mind, the Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart release date will likely wind up falling in February or early March. For it to be released that long after the initial console release would give the PS5 a veneer of having regular exclusives.
