Playstation 5 Stock Shortage
Sony had only planned on the production of 5 million PlayStation 5 games consoles by the end of March 2021. However, as the popularity of gaming exploded during the first lockdowns, Sony doubled PlayStation production to meet 10 million units by the same date.
More recently, Sony admitted that the PS5 could be in short supply until 2022 due to the ongoing semiconductor chip shortage that has affected everything from cars to gadgets. It’s set to produce one million fewer consoles 15 million, rather than 16 million by the end of March 2022.
In August 2021, Sony chief financial officer Hiroki Totoki claimed that Sony had purchased enough chips to hit its target for PS5 sales this financial year and end the PlayStation 5 shortage. The company plans to shift 14.8 million PlayStation 5 consoles by 31st March 2022. Which sounds very good, but with demand outstripping supply, many gamers remain PS5-less.
Playstation 5 Price: Cheaper Digital Edition
Unlike the approach taken by Microsoft with the Xbox Series X and Series S, the full-fat, disc-playing PlayStation 5 and the more affordable, disc-less PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will have performance parity, with the optical drive the only difference between the two.
We predicted that the PS5 Digital Edition would dip below the magic £400 barrier, while the version with the disc drive might be more like £499 , and Sony has actually trumped our expectations in the UK at least.
The most telling piece of news we’d had in the run-up to launch was the PlayStation 5 product page leak on Amazon France, spotted by , which stated that the PlayStation 5 would be 500 euros with the PS5 Digital Edition at 400. That turned out to be right on the money .
More recently, the PS5 Digital Edition seems to have mysteriously shed some weight . Eagle-eyed gamers claim that the latest version is 300g lighter than the launch model. It doesn’t look like Sony has changed the design, size or contents, so the theory is that the newer model is made using lighter materials.

Ps5 Price: How Much Does The Ps5 Cost
The PS5 disc edition usually costs £449.99 sometimes without the extra 99p in the case of BT, while the PS5 digital edition is cheaper at £349.99.
The standard PS5 is the exact same price as the Xbox series X which is also conveniently also out of stock at most retailers. A number of retailers, including Game, Very, ShopTo and more are selling the PS5 bundled with games and other PS5 accessories as well. This inflates the price, but also deters those pesky scalpers.

As detailed in our PS5 restock guide, the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition have been incredibly hard to find since releasing in November last year.
In all reality, we don’t expect the situation to really improve until next year. Yes, we’re not kidding, and not even early 2022. PS5 deals sell out within minutes of appearing online, but we’ve listed the stores you should be checking on a regular basis to improve your chances of getting one. With a bit of luck, there might be some Black Friday PS5 deals to enjoy soon too.
Scalper bots have been a massive issue since launch as well, automatically buying up stock as soon as it appears . We can only hope that people will stop giving in and paying sky-high PS5 prices on eBay and the like, and that scalping PS5 deals will no longer be worth the effort for the resellers.

Why There’s An ‘october Deadline’ To Find Ps5 In Stock
Not to sound ominous, but you have until October 2021 to find a PS5 restock, which is when we predict PlayStation 5 demand will soar worldwide, despite PS5 console sales reaching 10 million, according to Sony.
Millions of parents will want to buy their children a PS5 in the weeks leading up to the Christmas holiday, and they haven’t been added to the pool of consumers who are actively looking to buy a PS5 console. That’s a scary thought.
That’s why you have just two months until the ramp-up to holiday shopping kicks off at most retailers. The little Timmy’s of the world haven’t asked for the PS5 yet, or even if they have, many parents haven’t gone searching for the console. As soon as that switch is flipped, we are going to see PS5 demand skyrocket beyond what Sony can supply, and analysts we talked to agree.
“I honestly don’t see this shortage getting better until next year,” Anshel Sag, Senior Analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, told TechRadar. He noted that Sony isn’t the only manufacturer in the hunt for PC components to make its PS5 consoles.
“With Qualcomm and Apple taking up vast swaths of 5nm, there isn’t very much capacity left for vast jumps in demand even with process node optimizations, said Sag. “There still appears to be a lot of pent-up demand in the PC gaming segment which is still red hot and suffering from the worst GPU shortage I think I’ve ever seen in my 15-plus-year career.”

Is There A Specific Sony Direct Restock Time
Sony hasn’t fully laid out a PS5 restock time to buy from the Sony Direct email invites that will go out in November. However, we do have a few details we can work with.
First, there’s going to be an expiration date attached to the email invite you get. “If selected, the expiration date and time will be included in your selection notification email and while supplies last,” according to Sony.
Second, if there is a specific time attached and if there’s still a virtual queue process, it could stick with the time it’s been using most recently: 2pm EDT / 11am PDT. It has also used 3pm EDT / 12pm PDT in prior months. But for all we know, Sony could go with a time window over a specific time.

Unfortunately, one of the main reasons for the shortage of PS5 consoles is due to scalpers. These opportunistic people have been using bots to scan retailers for PS5 stock when it becomes available and buy as many of the consoles as they can in one go.
Once they have the highly-desirable console, they will then sell them for extortionate prices, often for thousands of dollars. Business Insider reported one reseller managed to get hold of 200 PS5 consoles and managed to sell them for more than $40,000.
While this isnt illegal, its not exactly the most morally sound thing to do. But at least its not as bad as some people whove been pretending to sell PS5 consoles on eBay by simply posting photos of the console and scamming people to bid for them when there was no PS5 on offer.
It might seem absurd to buy a PS5 for over $1,000, especially as its launch game lineup isnt particularly profound. But with the coronavirus pandemic seeing more people staying at home, some PlayStation fans are clearly desperate to get their hands on a new console to keep them entertained.
We advise you avoid buying from such resellers, fake or otherwise. At $499 the PS5 is still quite an expensive console and it currently doesn’t have a huge library of games. So if you can wait until later this year, youre likely to have a lot more PS5 games to choose from and Sony should have more consoles available.

What, you thought Walmart was going to be left out of the fun? No way! Walmart is a premier destination for video game consoles and accessories. It should go without saying that Walmart is one of the best places to go for a PS5 restock update.
Like Amazon, Walmart is open to third-party sellers. That means there are pretty much always PlayStation 5 consoles in stock if youre willing to pay a premium. As a matter of fact, the PS5 is in stock right now at Walmart!
Ps5 Restock Latest News And Rumors
Jake Randall, a YouTuber and reliable stock tracker, was tipping Target for a restock this week. This proven to be a very good call as the retailer restocked the console earlier today . Unfortunately, the console is now sold out once again.
A GameStop PS5 restock was also being tipped for this week. This information came from a slightly dubious Reddit source, but the user in question did provide some evidence to back up their claims. It’s worth keeping a close eye on GameStop just in case this untested source proves to be legitimate but at this point in the week, it’s looking less likely.
Elsewhere, there is the possibility that Best Buy could restock soon as it hasn’t restocked in more than a month, but nothing is confirmed yet. Amazon could also drop again although the retailer did restock last week so another restock so soon afterward is unlikely.
In frustrating restock-related news, Sony has confirmed that supply of the PS5 isn’t expected to get any better this year. This would mean restock shortages continuing into 2022. Fear not, however, we’ll be here every day tracking restocks until the console is available without issue.

Playstation 5 Price Vs Xbox Series X Price
So, how does the PS5 compare to the Xbox Series X on price? Better than many expected, as it happens.
The Xbox Series X and the full-fat PS5 are identically priced, at £449 .
Both consoles also have a disc drive-less, cheaper sibling: that’s the Xbox Series S and the PS5 Digital Edition. This is where things get really interesting, because the Xbox Series S costs only £250 , whereas the PS5 Digital Edition is £360 .
That’s a big step up, but it’s worth pointing out that the Xbox Series S is less powerful than the Series X but the PS5 Digital Edition is identical to the standard PS5 except for the lack of a disc drive. In other words, the PS5 Digital Edition appears to be more of a proper next-gen games console than the Xbox Series S.

Since NBA games publisher 2K announced the $70 price for its sports sim NBA 2K21, the consensus has been that there’s a PS5 games hike coming across the board.
