Back in August, Sony announced that the PS5 is going up in price due to challenging economic decisions. The price hike affects Europe, Japan, China, Australia, Mexico, Canada and the U.K.

While this price increase is a necessity given the current global economic environment and its impact on SIEs business, our top priority continues to be improving the PS5 supply situation so that as many players as possible can experience everything that PS5 offers and whats still to come, the company said in a blog post.

Finding a PS5 for the $499 retail price can be stressful, despite the growing number of retailers that sell Sonys hard-to-get game console. Thankfully, there are a few different retailers such as and Walmart that have PS5 consoles available right now, while others including Best Buy and GameStop will likely be restocking at some point.

Ironing Out The Kinks

Lets not forget that a Slim console has the chance to improve the PS5 in a number of ways. The PS3 Slim, for example, wasnt just two-thirds of the size and weight of the PS3 it also consumed around 40% less power and featured a microprocessor and redesigned cooling system that made for a quieter and cooler machine.

While I dont expect to see anything as drastic as the ring red of death from the Xbox 360 which bricked my own 360 console, as well as its first replacement minor issues have the chance to be fixed in successive hardware. Given the PS5 DualSense is prone to the same drift problem as Nintendos Joy-Cons, wed hope work is happening behind the scenes to prevent this in future.

Its clear that the PS5 offers a major upgrade to the PS4 and PS4 Pro. But for those wanting the best version of the PS5, rather than the first model Sony could release, there may well be better things ahead.

Finding A Ps5 Might Get Easier This Year

The company is forecasting PS5 sales of 18 million this fiscal year, which is up dramatically, and that could mean the supply issues are getting better.

If you’ve been looking for a PlayStation 5 but haven’t been able to get one, 2022 could be your year. Sony has projected it will sell many millions more PlayStation 5 units in the current fiscal year, and this could be a sign that the company believes the chip shortages and other supply issues might improve, leading to more units being available to buy. Nothing is guaranteed, though.

As part of Sony’s latest investor briefing, the company said it projects to sell 18 million PS5 consoles during the fiscal year that began April 1 and runs through March 31, 2023. This number is based on the company’s “current visibility into parts procurement,” Sony said.

For comparison, Sony sold 11.5 million PS5 consoles during its fiscal year that ended on March 31, 2022 and 7.8 million PS5 consoles for the fiscal year that ended on March 31, 2021. That is a sizable jump: Sony is essentially predicting it will sell upwards of 60% more systems during the current fiscal year than it did last year. So far in 2022, Sony has sold 2 million PS5 consoles, which compares to 3.3 million during the same three-month period last year.

If you want to buy a PS5 now — like, right this very moment — the easiest place to get one is StockX. Though the site is a third-party reseller, StockX authenticates PlayStation 5 consoles and offers some of the best third-party pricing around. Note, however, that you’ll have to pay a $100 premium or more over the console’s MSRP to buy one there.

It’s possible that you’ll still be able to get a PS5 console at Best Buy, Walmart or GameStop, even if you’re not willing to drop your hard-earned cash on a premium membership or third-party reseller offering. Panic To Bag A Ps5 By Christmas As Sony Warns Stock Will Be Limited Until Next Year

SONY has warned that PS5 stock issues will remain an issue right through to 2022.

It means many hopeful buyers will now be racing to bag a PlayStation 5 in time for Christmas.

The PS5 has been largely sold out since it launched in November 2020.

But PlayStation boss Jim Ryan recently admitted that it would be much easier to get a PS5 from July onwards.

That may still be true, but it looks like it will still be difficult to get one if demand remains high.

Now one Sony exec is warning that the console may be tricky to secure for a long time.

I dont think demand is calming down this year, said Sony finance boss Hirohito Totoki, as reported by Bloomberg.

And even if we secure a lot more devices and product many more units of the PlayStation 5 next year, our supply wouldnt be able to catch up with demand.

Would-be PS5 owners are already tweeting about how they want the console for Christmas 2021.

But demand will soar as the holiday season approaches.

Older consoles like the Nintendo Switch regularly go out of stock in the run up to Black Friday and Christmas.

And it could be the same story for the PS5 this November and December.

Register Now To Buy A Ps5 From Sony

We have good news if you miss this opportunity to buy your PS5 from Sony Direct. Sony is now letting people register to buy a PlayStation 5.

PS5 restock events have been held frequently, with at least one PS5 restock event held every month. Some PlayStation 5 restock events even take place a week after a previous one. So, PS5 availability is relatively more common now, and your chances of finding a console in stock are improving.

Theres no guarantee that youll get one, but youll undoubtedly have a much better chance this way. Hurry up though, because theres going to be a very, very long line.

When To Buy Ps: Outlook

Since price isnt an issue and game selection is largely down to personal taste, I would say that the earliest time to buy a PS5 is March 2021 and you can wait until May or June if you really want to hit the ground running. Of course, you can try to find one sooner, but you may just drive yourself up a wall dealing with inconsistent restocks and greedy scalpers.

Alternatively, you can wait another year and see if the price drops. If 2022 rolls around and you still cant find a PS5, something will have gone horribly wrong.

Ps5 Game Selection: Whats Coming When

Everyone has a different threshold when it comes to how many games make a system worthwhile? For some people, one system-seller is enough for others, a dozen exclusive titles may be the threshold, because why upgrade otherwise?

I dont think theres a right or wrong approach here, but I will say that my own rule of thumb is three games that I cant get on any other system. Right now, the PS5 doesnt meet that criterion. It has only two true exclusive titles Astros Playroom and Demons Souls and one of them technically came out on the PS3 more than a decade ago.

Looking out across the next few months, were scheduled to get Returnal, Deathloop and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart in the first half of 2021. We have more nebulous release dates for other exclusives, like God of War Ragnarok, Ghostwire: Tokyo and Final Fantasy XVI, but its at least possible that they could come out in 2021.

Then theres also the issue of cross-gen games, like Assassins Creed Valhalla and Yakuza: Like a Dragon. While these games play just fine on the PS4, theres a good chance that cross-gen games will start favoring the next-gen consoles sooner rather than later. Weve already started to see this disparity with titles like Cyberpunk 2077, and the performance differences are likely to get even more noticeable as time goes on.

What Happens To My Warzone Progress And My Stuff

Perks and unlocks for the original Warzone will only apply to that game, the newly minted Warzone Caldera. Player progression, cross-progression for XP and weapon XP, inventories, battle pass content, weapons, and other purchases from the original and from , Black Ops Cold War, and Vanguard will be accessible only within Warzone Caldera. It wont carry over to Warzone 2.0. Double XP tokens in Warzone Caldera and Warzone 2.0 are not transferrable.

Similarly, progress in Warzone 2.0 will only be tied to Modern Warfare 2, and vice versa.
