Playstation 5 Stock Shortage
Sony had planned on the production of 5 million PlayStation 5 games consoles by the end of March 2021. But as the popularity of gaming exploded during the pandemic, Sony doubled PlayStation production to meet 10 million units by the same date.
Sadly, it wasn’t enough. In May 2021, the company warned analysts that PlayStation 5 shortages would continue until 2022: “I dont think demand is calming down this year and even if we secure a lot more devices and produce many more units of the PlayStation 5 next year, our supply wouldnt be able to catch up with demand,” said Hiroki Totoki, Sony’s Chief Financial Officer.
On 12th November 2021 the PS5’s first birthday Sony Interactive Entertainment boss Jim Ryan addressed historic demand for the PS5 in a PlayStation.Blog post. Ryan admitted that “inventory constraints remain a source of frustration for our customers” and said that Sony is “laser-focussed” on shipping as many console units as possible.
It all sounds very positive but the truth is, the company expects to produce one million fewer consoles 15 million, rather than 16 million in the financial year ending March 2022.
With the emergence of the Omicron COVID-19 variant, it seems that chip shortages are set to continue this year and possibly beyond.
In early 2022, Sony decided to keep manufacturing PS4 consoles. The company intends to make an extra one million PS4 machines to compensate for the lack of PS5 stock. It’s certainly one way to tackle the problem.

The state of PS5 stock today depends on your region. In the US, individual consoles are particularly difficult to locate and even bundles represent a rare opportunity. However, over in the UK we’re seeing far more bundles holding their position on the shelves .

Once they have the highly-desirable console, they will then sell them for extortionate prices, often for thousands of dollars. Business Insider reported one reseller managed to get hold of 200 PS5 consoles and managed to sell them for more than $40,000.
While this isnt illegal, its not exactly the most morally sound thing to do. But at least its not as bad as some people whove been pretending to sell PS5 consoles on eBay by simply posting photos of the console and scamming people to bid for them when there was no PS5 on offer.
It might seem absurd to buy a PS5 for over $1,000, especially as its launch game lineup isnt particularly profound. But with the coronavirus pandemic seeing more people staying at home, some PlayStation fans are clearly desperate to get their hands on a new console to keep them entertained.
We advise you avoid buying from such resellers, fake or otherwise. At $499 the PS5 is still quite an expensive console and it currently doesn’t have a huge library of games. So if you can wait until later this year, youre likely to have a lot more PS5 games to choose from and Sony should have more consoles available.

Testing The Dualsense Controller And 3d Audio
Another key aspect of the PlayStation 5 design I want to address is the DualSense controller – which surpasses expectations, and actually presents a profound challenge to journalists in that describing how wonderful it is will never hold a candle to simply holding the controller and giving it a go. First of all, the design of the pad itself is exceptional, mirroring the high quality, premium feel of the entire experience. Sticks feel better, the d-pad massively so. The resistive triggers feel a little strange initially, but once you dive into Astro’s Playroom, everything makes sense. DualSense feels revolutionary. Surfaces over which Astro walks can be felt through the pad, the wind and particles of a sandstorm are perfectly recreated, while the unique tension of a spring is uncannily represented. When it rains, it almost feels as if you can feel the individual drops hitting Astro. Part of the success of the experience is that DualSense uses both audio via the internal speaker and haptic feedback. I’ve long since muted the speaker on my PS4 DualShock 4 – ‘remote’ audio can come across as a gimmick and somewhat intrusive – but with Astro’s Playroom, sound and sensation come together to create something extraordinary. This is HD rumble taken to the next level and I defy you not to be impressed by it.
Should I Buy The Ps5 Or Ps5 Digital Edition
There are two versions of Sony’s latest console: so how do you know whether to buy the PS5 or PS5 Digital Edition? Well, there’s one major difference between the two – outside of the price.
The PS5 Digital Edition does not include a disc drive so no physical copies of games can be played on the console and you will have to buy all of your games digitally. All purchases have to be made through the official PSN Store. You will, however, still be able to play old PS4 games as long as you bought a digital copy. With that in mind, if you’ve fully embraced the digital revolution and are looking to save on the upfront cost of the console then the PS5 Digital Edition may be right for you.
For most, though, we’d suggest sticking with the standard PS5 as it has the added flexibility with the included disc drive. The other major sticking point with the PS5 Digital Edition is that Sony manufactures far fewer of them compared to the normal PS5. When retailers restock the consoles, then, you often have a considerably smaller chance of getting a Digital Edition – if they even have this version on sale in the first place.

Although Amazon is the only website currently showing the PS5 resctok date, the console will likely be available to pre-order on ShopAtSC, Flipkart, Vijay Sales, Reliance Digital, Croma, and Games The Shop as well. Since PS5 stocks could be limited, it is recommended to login into these websites a few minutes before 12 PM to ensure that you check out faster.
