Who Sold More Xbox Or Playstation

Don't Miss

Ps4 Vs Xbox One: Sony Sells More Than 202 Million Consoles Worldwide

Playstation and Xbox consoles have sold out, we find out why

Looks like Sony is still leading the console war. The Japan-based multimedia conglomerate is at 20.2 million PlayStation 4 units sold, as of March 1, since the product launched in November 2013. By contrast, Microsoft in December said it had shipped a total of 10 million units of Xbox One, which debuted one week after the PlayStation 4.

“We are so grateful for the enormous support from PlayStation fans worldwide, and we are truly humbled that gamers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as the best place to play,” Andrew House, president and global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment said in a statement Tuesday. “We remain steadfast in our commitment to deliver unique and interactive entertainment experiences powered by the network and the PS4 system’s deep social capabilities.”

In January, the eighth-generation PlayStation 4 reached 18.5 million in unit sales. The gaming console hit the figure just days after the holiday shopping rush came to a close. Sony also announced it had reached 10.9 million subscribers for PlayStation Plus, up about 3 million from the end of October. PlayStation Plus is a subscription-based service that grants users access to exclusive content. Its priced at $50 per year.

Last month, a report by Strategy Analytics predicted that Sony will outsell Microsoft by a whopping 40 percent until 2018. That means that PlayStation 4 will be the leading console through the first five years of its availability.

Ps4 Vs Xbox One: Which Gaming Console Is Better

PS4 or Xbox One? Find the right console for you

PS4 vs Xbox One, which gaming console should you choose? Thats something gamers asked for years. But, despite what some people will claim, there’s no definitive answer on which last-generation console reigns supreme. Like everything in life, it’s down to you and your preferences. This guide will help you make an informed decision to find out which one you should buy.

To be clear, the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S are the best and newest consoles that you can buy today. So, while the PS4 and Xbox One are now officially considered last-generation consoles, this does not mean they should be dismissed outright.

We say this because new games are still releasing that work well on both older consoles, like Halo Infinite and Horizon Forbidden West. This is great news for anyone without the budget for a new console who still wants to play the latest titles. However, cross-generation releases are slowly winding down, so just be aware of that before going ahead.

Whats more, if youre just interested in playing games – and you arent overly concerned with the latest hardware, features, and native 4K resolutions – you can pick up the PS4 or Xbox One for an excellent price right now. Unfortunately, you’ll struggle to find places where you can buy the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro new. Thats because they’ve been discontinued, though both are available second-hand.

Advanced & Comfortable Controller

Sony always puts more effort into developing the PlayStation controllers. The latest PS5 controllers use advanced technology like haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, motion sensor, and speaker & microphone. In addition to advanced technology, according to console users, the PlayStation controller is quite easy to use. Since the buttons are in a much more comfortable position, the controllers are easy to use for teenagers, adults and even disabled users. Users also feel comfortable using the console as the PlayStation user interface is comparatively simpler than Xbox.

Ps4 Vs Xbox One: Hardware And Design

Both the Xbox One and the PS4 have different versions that you can buy right now. The PS4 has two and the Xbox One has three.

The Xbox One S improved on the original Xbox Ones design by cutting down a lot of the heft, removing the gigantic power brick, and making use of an internal power supply instead. It measures 11.6 x 8.9 x 2.5 inchesand, unlike the previous version, includes a 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray player it will even upscale 1080p games to 4K, providing your TV can support it.

However, if you prefer a more streamlined version of the Xbox One S, then the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition may be more your cup of tea. The 1TB disc-less console looks and performs like its predecessor but lacks a disc drive so that means no Blu-ray or physical discs.

The Xbox One X might be heftier than the Xbox One S, but its still considerably smaller than the original Xbox One, coming in at 11.81 x 9.44 x 2.36 inches and weighing around 8.4 lbs . This is the high-powered version of the Xbox One, with native 4K gaming as well as a 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray player .

Starting out on the PS4 side, the PS4 Slim is straight up the smallest of the major consoles available right now, measuring in at 10.4 x 11.3 x 1.5 inches and serving as the baseline PS4 for most consumers completely replacing the original PlayStation 4. It doesnt give you 4K resolutions, even for video, but it can still play every game from the PS4’s impressive library.

Nintendo Switch Sells More Than The Xbox One And Playstation 4

Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X sold for almost 10 times retail price ...

Fazeel Ashraf December 19, 2018

Nintendo claimed today that their popular handheld gaming device, the Switch sold more copies in its first 21 months than Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Although we dont know the actual stats of the Xbox One and PS4 sale figures in this time frame, it might be the last time we will get to see these three consoles getting compared.

The information comes from data analysis company The NPD Group, which keeps a close eye on video game sales. Nintendo Switch outperformed its big, older brother, the Nintendo Wii during the same period.

These numbers are solely based on figures in the US. They do not include the Japanese market for either of the three consoles. Nintendo of Americas Senior VP of Sales, Doug Bowser said,

We are thrilled to see such a strong reaction from consumers in the second holiday season for Nintendo Switch. Were looking forward to delivering more excitement and smiles to our fans in the coming year and beyond.

This is the last time we will get to compare the three consoles since Microsoft stopped releasing sales figures for the Xbox One. It stopped this practice just after one year of Xbox Ones release. It seemed Microsoft adopted this policy due to poor sales figures.

EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen revealed these figures. But Microsoft told Variety that these figures were totally false.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Design

For the most part, whether you like a consoles design comes down to personal preference. But my personal preference is that I cannot stand how the PS5 looks. Not only is the system comically large its also a pain to switch from vertical to horizontal configuration, and the standard version sports an ugly, asymmetrical design.

The front panel is prone to fingerprints the power and disc eject buttons are indistinguishable. Its rare that I recommend you hold off on a console purchase simply to wait for the prettier redesign, but you should very strongly consider doing that with the PS5.

The Xbox Series X, on the other hand, is still pretty bulky, but manages its space much better. Rather than looking like an oversized router, the Xbox Series X is a sleek black box that looks, at least in its vertical form, kind of like a small tower PC . It has a clearly defined power button, as well as a pairing button to make wireless connections painless.

The only big advantage the PS5 has over the Xbox Series X is the presence of a USB-C port which is a big deal, especially as more accessories get USB-C adapters. But even if the Xbox Series X design is much more conservative, its also much more sensible overall.

Winner: Xbox Series X

Xbox Finally Sold More Consoles Than Playstation

Xbox Series S/X sales beat PlayStation 5 sales in Japan for a week in May, continuing signs of supply problems affecting Sony’s console.

While Microsoft’s Xbox and Sony’s PlayStation go neck-in-neck in many regions throughout the world, one part of the globe has never had much love for the console that gave us Halo and Gamertags.

That region is Asia, and specifically Japan, where the love of PlayStation, where Sony is headquartered, is sacrosanct. It is with this understanding that makes today’s new hardware sales figure coming out of Japan so astonishing as it reveals that the Xbox X/S outsold the PlayStation 5 for the seven days starting on May 9.

Though the numbers don’t tell the whole truth and Xbox’s win isn’t because the country’s gamers have suddenly ditched the PlayStation.

Why Is Xbox The Best

The Xbox One X is the most powerful video game console this side of an actual gaming PC. It simply outperforms every other system including the PS4 Pro. The Xbox One X even looks better than the PS4 Pro from a purely cosmetic perspective. So if you want games to run at true 4K, the Xbox One X is the system for you.

Ps4 Vs Xbox One: Games

Microsoft Admits Xbox One Sold LESS THAN HALF as Many Units as PS4

Both the PS4 and Xbox One now have substantial games libraries. The PS4 has just over 2,000, of which over 299 are PS4 exclusives, while the Xbox One has about nearly 2,000 games with less half the number of exclusives the PS4 has.

The Halo and Gears of War series stand above all others on Xbox One if you’re into shooter games, while Cuphead features some fantastic, colorful boss battle action and Sea of Thieves offers a high-seas multiplayer experience like no other. Halo: The Master Chief Collection lets us relive all the old classics, although the experience was somewhat spoiled by a number of technical problems that have never been fully solved.

But, its with its exclusive racing games that the Xbox One really excels, with the Forza Motorsport and Horizon titles being excellent entries in the series.

The Xbox platform also stands apart thanks to Xbox Game Pass. This subscription service gives players access to a rotating list of more than 100 games for a monthly fee and first-party Xbox games come to it on release day. One Xbox One game on the horizon that will arrive on the service is Halo Infinite, which is sure to be one of the best games on the Xbox One.

Microsoft’s number of exclusives pales compared to Sony, though the former is clearly making a concerted effort to amend this with the creation of five new gaming studios and numerous acquisitions, including Bethesda.

Xbox One : 46.9 million

So, in short, the PS4 has outsold the Xbox One by more than a two-to-one margin, and the Switch has already passed Xbox One in sales despite being released a full four years later.

This is not how the previous generation played out, where the end result was much closer:

PS3: 87.4 million

Though its not exactly quite as drastic as the generation before that one:

PS2: 155 million

Xbox : 24 million

Microsoft may have some trouble riding into this new generation though with so many Sony fans grandfathered in. Xbox One left a bad taste in many gamers mouths after a very, very rocky launch and Sony still continuing to best them in first-party exclusives, no matter how good Forza has gotten. Microsoft is trying to change that, investing heavily in new games and IPs, but we dont know how long that will take to bear fruit.

And Nintendo, as ever, will quietly putter along, putting everyone else to shame.

Game Boy Advance 8151 Million

  • Initial release date: March 21, 2001
  • Production status: Ended
  • Highest-rated games: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past , Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 , Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3

This official sales figure comes directly from Nintendo. The company also notes software sales for the handheld closed at 377 million units. The Game Boy Advance line of devices included many different design iterations and form factors, the last of which was the Game Boy Micro in 2005. The top-selling model was the Game Boy Advance SP, with 43.57 million units sold. The Game Boy Micro only sold 2.42 million during its short run.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Size

If the specs arent clear, the PS5 is the bigger of the two consoles by some margin. The Xbox Series X is 11.9-inches tall, 5.9-inches wide, and 5.9-inches deep. The result is a tower-like design akin to a compact gaming PC that can be positioned vertically or horizontally. A large vent on the top of the console is where most heat is expended, and its whisper-quiet when in use.

The PS5 is the biggest console Sony has ever made. It stands 15.4-inches tall, 10.2-inches wide, and 4.1-inches deep. Like the Xbox Series X, it can be positioned vertically or horizontally but requires a stand. The consoles large footprint means finding space for it in your home setup might be tricky, but its enormous size at least ensures its quiet when in operation.

Like the Xbox Series X, the PS5 is extremely quiet in operation a far cry from the jet engine-like noise a launch day PS4 could produce under heavy load.

Playstation Portable 82 Million*

no way this console is over 499 former xbox console marketing
  • Initial release date: December 12, 2004
  • Production status: Ended
  • Highest-rated games: God of War: Chains of Olympus , Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars , Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable

*Sony last reported an official sales total for PSP in 2012, when it announced the handheld had sold 76 million units. The system would continue to be produced for an additional two years, during which time it’s unknown exactly how many units were sold. However, in an interview with former PlayStation boss Shawn Layden, former IGN editor Colin Moriarty noted 82 million PSPs were “in the wild,” though it’s unclear if that number was confirmed by Layden.

Ps4 Vs Xbox One: Apps

The Xbox 360 and PS3 proved to be more than just gaming machines, and Xbox One and PS4 are no different. Of course, most third-party apps are shared across both platforms.

One key difference between the consoles as they currently stand is access to 4K streaming services. While you’ll have to opt for the more expensive PS4 Pro if you want 4K streaming services on a Sony console, both the Xbox One S and X are capable of 4K streaming.

In terms of the apps themselves, all next-gen gamers have access to Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Spotify, Hulu Plus, Crackle, Vudu and Redbox Instant as well as baseball subscription service MLB.TV.

Xbox One corners the app-filled market with ESPN, Fox Now, FX Now, NFL, TED, The CW, Twitch, Univision Deportes, Verizon FiOS TV and YouTube. It also has Microsoft’s own OneDrive, Skype and Xbox Music and Xbox Video services.

That contrasts with PS4. Sony’s console features Crunchyroll, Epix, NBA Gametime, NHL GameCenter Live, YuppTV, the WWE Network, VidZone, and Sonys own foray into being a cable provider with PlayStation Vue.

Initially, Xbox One had first access to HBO Go before PS4, but now both consoles have the premium channel as an app at least, if your cable provider in the US isn’t Comcast. And, even if it is, both systems now support HBO Now, which lets you view HBO programming without a cable subscription.

More niche apps are expected as time goes on, so this is hardly the final list of apps for Xbox One and PS4.

Previous Generation Console Options

If the cost of basic modifications is too high, then you can pay attention to more affordable offers.

In the case of Sony, the price difference between the original PS 5 and PS 5 Digital Edition is minimal: just a few thousand rubles. This is due to the fact that the Digital Edition is a full-fledged PlayStation 5 with all functionality, only without an optical drive.

The Xbox Series S costs half the price of the Series X because its a big trade-off. The console does not have an optical drive, the solid-state drive is half that of the original, only 10 GB of RAM is provided, and the performance is four times weaker only 4 teraflops.

This is not a device that a gamer wants to see for games in 4K, but if such a resolution is not needed, the Series S will do. The model is still equipped with an ultra-fast SSD and supports the latest technologies, including ray tracing.

Series S also outperforms the flagship of the previous generation Xbox One X, which is more powerful only on paper. A more powerful processor and faster storage give the Series S faster loading and frame rates.

The result is almost a draw: it is more difficult to recommend the cut-down Xbox, while the cost of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition in Russia is almost equal to the price of the original console so its difficult to call it a younger one. But its much better than the Xbox Series S, so the choice is clear between the two.
