Should I Buy The Ps5 Or Ps5 Digital Edition
There are two versions of Sony’s latest console: so how do you know whether to buy the PS5 or PS5 Digital Edition? Well, there’s one major difference between the two – outside of the price.
The PS5 Digital Edition does not include a disc drive so no physical copies of games can be played on the console and you will have to buy all of your games digitally. All purchases have to be made through the official PSN Store. You will, however, still be able to play old PS4 games as long as you bought a digital copy. With that in mind, if you’ve fully embraced the digital revolution and are looking to save on the upfront cost of the console then the PS5 Digital Edition may be right for you.
For most, though, we’d suggest sticking with the standard PS5 as it has the added flexibility with the included disc drive. The other major sticking point with the PS5 Digital Edition is that Sony manufactures far fewer of them compared to the normal PS5. When retailers restock the consoles, then, you often have a considerably smaller chance of getting a Digital Edition – if they even have this version on sale in the first place.
Not Many Exclusive Games
It’s not uncommon for many gamers to own multiple platform, like a PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S. That’s why it’s so important that a console has amazing exclusive games those that you can only experience on that platform.
The problem is that the PS5 only has but a handful. While games like Astro’s Playroom, Returnal, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart are great, it’s not enough to plunge hundreds of dollars into a console.
This will change over time. However, at the time of writing, it’s been nearly two years since the PS5 launched and you’ll be hard-pressed to point to a single game that’s a system seller.
Where To Buy Ps5 In The Us
For the US, we see consoles about once a month at major retailers but it still sells out in a matter of minutes at the likes of Amazon and Walmart – both of which just held a restock.
Still, here are the US stores that carry PS5 and Digital Edition consoles regularly. We update this list as soon as we get news of an upcoming restock with the announced time and date so you can be best prepared to bag a console.
PlayStation Direct: PS5 | PS5 Digital Edition
Sony’s official PlayStation Direct store is usually the first place to sell consoles during each restock cycle. In order to buy one, though, you need to register your details and receive an exclusive email invite to each restock event. These usually take place about once a month. A public sale often goes live if any consoles are still available after the invite phase.

Next Gamestop Ps5 Restock Time
Each GameStop PS5 restock time is 9am local time on weekends in the US, and my Twitter tracker usually detects a PS5 restock at stores once a month. GameStop store locations can open at late as 11am or 12pm in rare cases. A few stores sell out on day one, but many locations still have a few bundles on day two if you look around.
If your local GameStop store says the PS5 is out of stock, just wait for my Twitter tracker alert for the next round of PS5 consoles.

How Much Does The Playstation 5 Cost
The PS5 is available in two models. The standard PS5 costs $499/£479, while the cheaper Digital Edition without a Blu-ray drive costs $399/£389 note that those UK figures are £30 higher than they used to be thanks to a price increase, though luckily US customers havent been affected.

Theres Hope For Gamers
Retailers havent made it easy on consumers looking to score PS5s, either. Amazon and GameStop give priority to subscribers of their respective membership programs, while Walmart requires you to sign up for Walmart Plus to get your hands on a console.
On Tuesday, two of my friends managed to purchase PS5 consoles via Walmart after signing up for the companys Amazon Prime competitor for $13. Yes, they had to fork over $13 for a chance to buy the console.
The idea is partly a means to keep resellers from using bots to claim as many consoles as possible before selling them at jacked-up prices on third-party marketplaces. Still, its messed up to make people pay a fee when theyre not even guaranteed to get a console.
There are signs that product availability is improving by the slimmest margins. Resellers on StockX, for instance, sell PS5 consoles now for as low as $675. Thats still higher than the $499 retail price, but less than the $800 the consoles went for on the sellers site in 2021.
If youre hoping to get your hands on a new console anytime soon, youre going to have to stay on top of Twitter accounts like @PS5StockAlerts and @PS5StockNews.
Theres also the incredibly rare possibility that your local brick and mortar store might have them in stock, so its worth at least giving them a call to see if theyve got a few. Thats how I scored my Nintendo Switch OLED.

Where To Buy The Playstation 5
The PS5 has now been on sale for almost two years including two holiday seasons but its sadly just as difficult to buy as ever, and depending on where you live it might even cost more than it used to thanks to a recent price hike.
The console has been almost impossible to buy ever since launch, though its slowly getting easier to find. While stock still sells out faster than retailers can supply it, its also re-appearing faster than ever.

Live Ps5 Restock Updates
Wednesday, September 14 update: The PS5 Horizon bundle sold out at Walmart, but remains in stock at Sony Direct. There are two problems with this, though. One, many of my PS5 Twitter tracker followers want the Sony PlayStation 5 console on its own, without being force to buy this particular game with a $50 price bump. Second, Sony Direct tends to glitch out or limit who can buy PS5 from its storefront.
Thursday, September 8: PS5 has finally sold out at Walmart although it has come back in stock less than 24 hours later when I last mentioned this. But, overall, you might not see a big Walmart PS5 restock until October at this point and time.
Tuesday, August 30 at 1pm ET: Same deal for the PS5 restock today as we saw yesterday. The Sony console is in stock at Walmart, while other retail locations in the United States are sold out. Youll just have to pay $550, but it includes a game.
Monday, August 29 at 9am ET: I woke up today to see that the PS5 restock is still going on at Walmart, and I can safely add the Sony console to my cart. Thats a sign that well continue to see the PS5 in stock and remain that way at more retailers in the US the next time theres a restock.
Sunday, August 28 at 6am ET: The Walmart PS5 restock remains available to purchase on Sunday, meaning its been in stock all weekend except for a few hours when it vanished from Walmarts inventory system. This is a good sign for Sony.

Third-party stock-tracking websites like HotStock.io can tell you when a store last had the PlayStation 5 in stock and let you set alerts for multiple retailers. A reseller who made more than $40,000 reselling PS5 consoles in 2020 shared more specific tips on how to find the console online.

Butterfield set up an alert to let him know whenever Swider tweeted, which meant he was instantly notified of restocks and was able to jump on an available purchase. In the end, Butterfield bought one PS5 from Walmart, a second from Target and a third directly from Sony.
“The retailers are always restocking these products, and you want to know when they restock it it could be today, tomorrow or this minute,” PCMag’s Kan said. “You can find certain users that all they do is they specialize in tracking the restocks, so you follow those users and set up alerts on your Twitter account.”
Swider didn’t return a request for comment. Other accounts that tweet about restocks include @CameronRitz and @lordofrestocks.

But It Shouldnt Be So Hard
Here are some strategies you can use to buy a PS5 even when they are limited in the market:
Try out the smaller retail stores- A small PS5 batch will barely take seconds in large retailers websites and it can almost be impossible to buy this console there. However, with small retailers, the competition is always lower, meaning that if they have the console, the probability of getting your hands on it will be higher.
Buy it from a foreign country- Sony has tried to distribute this gaming console worldwide and you should also constantly check reliable sellers beyond your jurisdiction. If you have the upper hand in completing purchases, you may beat the countrys buyers and have your PS5 shipped to your home country.
Use good proxies- With a residential proxy network, you can get access to limitless secure IP addresses that will bypass any PS5 buying restrictions a local or global seller has set on their website. Note that you can still use bots, but this means that you will spend a lot more and you will have to keep sending requests to PS5 retailers, which may be inconvenient for you.
