Is Playstation Better Than Xbox

Xbox One Vs Ps: Still Worth Getting

Sony Playstation vs Microsoft Xbox – Which Is Better – Video Game Console Comparison

Given that tracking down PS5 restock or Xbox Series X restock is stupidly tough at the time of writing, one of the easier ways to get a ‘new’ console is to op for one from the previous generation, especially if you missed out on either the PS4 or Xbox One when they launched.

Both the Xbox One and PS4 are still worthy consoles hen gaming at 1080p, though the Xbox One X can hit up to 4K. And with a mature library of games, you won’t be short on games to play as you wait for the new Microsoft and Sony consoles to become easier to buy.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Backwards Compatibility

Both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X have excellent backwards compatibility features, but theres no denying that the Xbox reaches further back into Microsofts library. Not only is the Xbox Series X compatible with just about every Xbox One game its also compatible with many Xbox 360 and original Xbox games. While it doesnt include every stab Microsofts ever taken at backwards-compatible games , its an impressive effort with zero friction.

The PS5 can play just about every PS4 game on the market, but compatibility doesnt go back any further than that, unless you count its PlayStation Now streaming service for PS3 games. Still, its not quite the same as playing games you already own directly on a console.

Winner: Xbox Series X

Better Overall Performance From Third

This is basically a moot point if were talking about the Xbox One X but since not everyone whos looking to purchase a console is looking to buy the most expensive one on the market, lets just keep this to a discussion between the standard PS4 and Xbox One models, shall we? . The fact of the matter is that PS4 games generally output at higher resolutions than their Xbox One counterparts, a minor advantage that paid off in the PS4s early years .

For instance, with a game like Metal Gear Solid5, theres more visual clarity to the PS4 version, with distant textures appear softer on the Xbox One version. Its quite common, especially with earlier titles, to find the PS4 version of a game running outputting a 1080p resolution at 30 or 60 frames per second, while the Xbox One achieves 720p or 900p at 30 or 60 fps. Again, the existence of the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X puts this comparison in Microsofts favor on the high end of the hardware spectrum, but when it comes to base models, the PS4 still reigns supreme in the graphical department.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Which Has Better Games

Were just going right at it, huh? In this early stage, there are comically few true exclusives for either console. Most of the major third-party games like and Assassins Creed Valhalla are on both platforms and run comparably. And every Xbox Series X game is also playable on PC.

At launch, the Xbox Series Xs big advantage on the games front is Game Pass. For a monthly subscription fee, you get access to a few hundred games from the Xbox One and Xbox 360 era. But Microsoft is also bringing new Xbox Series X games directly to Game Pass on the day they launch , while also updating older games like Gears 5 and Forza Horizon 4 to take advantage of the new hardware.

Looking to the future, Microsoft announced that its new acquisition of Bethesda means those games will also come to Game Pass right when they launch. If youre looking to play a lot of different games, but not looking to spend upwards of $70 on each one, Xbox Series X is a solid option.

The PlayStation 5 also offers its PlayStation Plus subscription service, which grants new free games each month. Recently that service was enhanced with the PlayStation Plus Collection, a pack of 18 excellent games that folks can play as long as they are subscribed to PlayStation Plus. Right now Microsofts Game Pass offering is far more valuable, but we expect Sony to get closer to parity with Microsoft over the next generation.

PlayStation 4 vs. Xbox One: Which is better? â RO: In the Know

This has got to be one of the best reasons I can think of that makes the PS4 stand out above any other gaming console out there at this point in time.

A while back I wrote a detailed review on the PSVR headset, what games are compatible with it, and even explained how the technology works.

If you arent exactly sure what this technology is and how it works then you might want to check it out by clicking the link above.

This way

If you have always wanted to go deeper inside your games and experience them like youre inside the game then VR is something that you should seriously consider getting into.

There are currently a couple hundred games or more that are currently VR compatible with more games being added all the time.

As this technology gets to be more common and widely used Im sure that the team over at Sony will continue to add more games to their ever-expanding VR library.

This is a feature that the Xbox One doesnt have and after doing so research on this topic it looks like they have no future plans to bring it to their gaming platform any time soon.

Which Is Faster The Xbox Series X Or Playstation 5 Early Data Says Its Complicated

One of the most interesting questions about any console launch is how the platforms compare against each other at debut and how the results of that comparison impact system uptake. In 2013, Microsoft tried to zig when Sony zagged at got shellacked by it, to the point that Microsoft considered killing Xbox altogether. The company learned from its mistake, and both the Xbox One X and the Xbox Series X pack more firepower than their equivalent PlayStation counterpart, at least on paper. The Xbox One X is a proven system and has often been at least modestly faster than the PS4 Pro in head-to-head match-ups, but we havent seen any data on the PlayStation 5 versus Xbox Series X, and the first game match-up is a bit stranger than we would have expected.

Eurogamer recently spent time with Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition on both platforms. Happily, the game has seemingly identical rendering modes between both platforms, allowing the publication to use it as a benchmark to compare them. The game runs with an unlocked frame rate when tested on a screen capable of 120Hz, and it offers multiple rendering modes to test.

Normal Mode: Full 3840×2160 rendering . Eurogamer reports the Xbox Series X is about 8 percent faster than the PS4 Pro in this mode.

Eurogamer has reported the issue to Capcom, and I seem to recall Sony having various problems with 720p back when the PS3 launched. Hopefully, this can be resolved via patch.

The Ps Plus Collection

PS Plus Collection

This is a big one for any PS Plus subscribers. It basically gives you access to nearly 20 games from the PS4 catalogue, from both Sony and third-party studios.

Granted, these are last-gen titles, but theyre mostly top-notch ones. And they should load faster and perform better on PS5. This is part of your PS Plus membership, so it doesnt cost anything extra and youll have all of these on day one.

Thats not too shabby. It certainly makes the PS5 a more viable console in its early months when there just arent a ton of next-gen games out yet.

Pro Xbox One: Game Sharing Is Easy On Xbox One

Microsoft doesnt exactly condone game sharing, but they havent condemned it either. On Xbox, it is very easy to give a friend access to your game collection while youre not using it. Once youre logged into an Xbox One, everyone on that console can play your games. The system automatically creates a new cloud save per account and even lets you earn achievements. On PlayStation, you need to use the license owner’s account to play games purchased on it, which means if you ever do decide to buy that game youll have to start from square one. Xbox users can go a step further by setting up a different machine as their home console, which lets every other account on that Xbox have access to their licenses even if they arent logged in perfect for families.

Playstation Plus Free Games

Why Xbox Is Better Than Playstation

Each month, PlayStation Plus subscribers get to add two free PS4 games to their library. Since the PlayStation 5’s launch, Sony has also started including a free PS5 game each month, though the title may also be available on PS4.

The new PS Plus games arrive on the first Tuesday of each month and stay available until the first Tuesday of the following month. As long as you “buy” the games when they’re free, they’re yours to keep as long as your Plus subscription stays active.

If you let your subscription lapse, you lose access to any free Plus games you grabbed. However, should you ever re-subscribe, you’ll get access to those games again.

On PS5, there’s also a new benefit called the PlayStation Plus Collection. This allows you to play some of the PS4’s biggest hits on your PS5, thanks to backwards compatibility. Like the other games, they’re free to download, but you lose access if your subscription lapses.

At the time of writing, some of the included games are Uncharted 4, God of War, Persona 5, and Resident Evil 7.

The Timeworn Tale Of First

While the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 both launched as capable next-generation systems, each platform holder felt the importance of its first-party output throughout this year. While neither console saw the “must-buy” system seller as past consoles, a robust launch lineup from Sony was one of several reasons behind this being the hotly anticipated console. The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S had various games optimized for the hardware, but it lacked the flagship Microsoft-made titles, following the delay of Halo Infinite into 2021.

It amplifies a long-term problem for Microsoft, with its first-party creative output a continued criticism throughout the Xbox One generation. While Microsoft has its share of hits throughout the decade, PlayStation Studios has maintained a consistently compelling portfolio in the latter years of the PlayStation 4. That included titles like The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima launched in the lead-up to PlayStation 5, with backward compatibility translating its lead from the outset. Its seen many blockbuster Sony releases become critically-acclaimed cultural anchors, while Microsoft’s alternatives often failed to retain long-term mindshare among the masses.

It leaves me hopeful for Microsoft’s first-party output, demonstrating its commitment to games, especially from its internal studios. It’s a shame that wasn’t proven with the Xbox Series X launch, and its barebones lineup highlighted some much-needed competition to come.

When You Put It This Way

In case you dont remember, the announcement of the Xbox One in 2013s E3 brought a lot of criticism its way for having a bunch of ridiculous features. The most lambasted one was the requirement for the Kinect to always be on.

This brought a certain sense of paranoia that Microsoft might be spying on the player, which was an instant turn-off. On the other end, we had the PS4 that had a great look about it, and had the smaller size that made it more attractive to have it in your room.

History Of Xbox Vs Playstation

Historically, the rivalry between Xbox and PlayStation has been as hotly contested as PC vs Mac. Ever since Microsoft decided to throw its hat into the video game console ring with the Xbox back in 2001, the two tech giants have been in odds with one another for nearly two decades. Sony has held a long standing seat on the throne as the number one game console company. The Microsoft Xbox has always been the underdog, trying to compete in the shadow and global popularity of the Sony PlayStation that started back into the late 1980s. Sony had enjoyed a competition free market after it launched the original PlayStation back in 1994 and it capitalized on the market with the most popular PlayStation 2 in 2000. While the Xbox did well in America due to brand power of Microsoft and smash hits like Halo, it did very poorly in the international market dominated by Nintendo and Sony. The PlayStation 2 outsold the Xbox 5 to 1 thanks to the brand popularity of Sony.

Premium Gaming With Ps Plus And Xbox Live Gold

Deep Dive: Is the Xbox Series X Better Than the ...

Now you know what PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold each offer, and can decide whether they’re worthwhile for you.

There’s no real “winner” between the two services, but they do have some key differences. Either one is required for online multiplayer, and the free games and discounts are effectively a wash.

If you mostly play free-to-play games like Apex Legends and Rocket League, then a PlayStation system lets you enjoy these without paying a subscription. It’s also nice that you don’t need PS Plus to use party chat on Sony’s systems. And if you have a PS5, the PS Plus Collection is great for catching up on the PS4 library.

Xbox has a few points in its favor, too. If you’re willing to pay a bit more, Game Pass Ultimate is an excellent value. And not needing Xbox Live Gold for cloud storage on an Xbox console is also valuable.

Whichever system you play on, you’ll get a lot of value out of either service. If you need more help deciding, why not check out how PS Now compares to Xbox Game Pass?

The Custom Nvme Ssd Storage

Theres no doubt that the Xbox Series X hason paper, at leastthe beefier specs between the two, including more raw power.

On the other hand, the custom NVME SSD drive in the PS5 is about twice as fast as the Xbox Series Xs storage solution. Microsofts console also has an NVME SSD drive, but its throughput is just 2.4 GB/s compared to Sonys 5.5 GB/s.

How this will end up impacting game performance on either system remains to be seen, but I wouldnt be surprised if the PS5 just loads everything faster. Well have a clearer picture of what exactly that means when both systems launch next week. But weve heard lots of praise from developers who have worked with the PS5s drive and it sounds incredibly fast.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Sound Quality

Spinning up the bombing-run scene of Unbroken via Blu-ray, it turns out that the PS5 can do a very good job of Dolby Atmos soundtracks when given the chance . It doesnt quite have the crispness or dynamic punch of a dedicated player such as the Sony UBP-X700, but the console produces a muscular, room-filling sound with good clarity and well-placed sound effects.

While Dolby Atmos isnt an option for games, those who already own a surround sound system will be relieved to hear that thats still the optimal way to enjoy game soundtracks.

Thats not to say the PS5s bespoke 3D audio system isnt good, because it really is. We test it with a pair of B& O BeoPlay H2 on-ears and the extravagant Grado GS2000e over-ears, each plugged into the DualSense controller, plus the official Sony PlayStation Pulse 3D Wireless Headset. In each case, we find that the so-called Tempest Engine delivers open, spacious and atmospheric sound with good placement of effects and a convincing sense of three-dimensionality.

In the CIA safehouse at the start of , the 3D audio gives a real sense of the cavernous nature of the place, the distance of each character as they speak and the echo as their voice reacts to the interior walls of the warehouse. You get none of this when listening in simple stereo.

When all is said and done, this has to be put down as another draw. The PS5’s very limited Atmos support is bothersome, but its bespoke, headphones-based 3D audio makes up for that. Honours even.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Which Should You Buy

While the Xbox Series X and PS5 are close on price and performance, the big question is what kind of games you want to play and, importantly, how much you want to pay for them. If you can sacrifice the Sony exclusives, then Xbox Game Pass is a dream if you dont want to spend the earth on games and especially if youre a Bethesda fan. In turn though, with its bold choices around the DualSense controller, the PS5 feels like more of a new gen experience and has a VR option on the way. Truthfully you arent going to lose with either and it might just be a case of choosing which console to buy first.

That Name Cannot Be Spoken

PlayStation 5 Review: Better Than Xbox?

Diehard Sony fans love to point out the number of sales PS franchises have achieved, but theres no escaping the fact that the PS5 lacks an abundance of quality titles. Due to this, Xbox fans like to claim that its better to just switch to this console. Obviously, both systems have plenty of great games, so there’s some logic to it but that doesn’t stop fans from overreacting to anyone challenging their platform.
