Sony’s PlayStation Plus subscription service for PS5 owners went through a major overhaul earlier this week. The new version brings together both of Sony’s previous PlayStation subscriptions, the original Plus service and the now-defunct PlayStation Now. The former offered online play and access to a handful of games the latter offered cloud streaming of some games.
The new single subscription, still called PlayStation Plus, combines online multiplayer, free monthly games and a standing game library available for download or streaming. That includes the games previously available on the old PS Now. Whether you just got a PS5 or are a long-time PS4 owner, here’s what you need to know about the service change.
PS Plus is required to play many multiplayer games online, and subscribers get access to new games each month at no extra cost. The now-defunct PS Now is the originator of modern console cloud gaming , although the service was not up to snuff when compared to its newer competitors.
Game subscriptions like PS Plus and Microsoft’s Game Pass offer a sizable library of games for a monthly fee. They can also get a bit confusing due to frequent changes in features and available games. PlayStation Plus is additionally split into three tiers, Essential, Extra and Premium, with different prices for each.
Can You Cancel A Playstation Plus Membership

What Can I Do With Playstation Plus
If you choose to subscribe to PlayStation Plus, there are some features you get beyond the standard experience.
The most important feature for most people is multiplayer gaming. If you want to play games with your friends over the internet, you really have no choice but to fork out for a PlayStation Plus subscription.
There are exceptions to this. In general, free-to-play games dont require a PlayStation Plus subscription. Some games that have their own subscription fees, such as Final Fantasy XIV, can be played without paying for the Plus service.
The other exclusive feature is cloud storage. You get 100GB of cloud storage if youre a PlayStation Plus subscriber. This storage space is used to upload and sync save game data. This is very handy if your PlayStation dies or you have two consoles and want to sync saved games between them.
These are the only two features we think can be considered core to the PlayStation experience. If you can live without premium game multiplayer or cloud saves, the case for PlayStation Plus is much less compelling.

Speaking of file sizes, how much space does Warzone 2 require?
Im trying to get a confirmation on download size from Activision, but right now Im seeing conflicting reports. For instance, many outlets are reporting that Warzone 2 will take up 115 GB on Xbox and PlayStation, but when I pre-loaded the game on my Xbox Series X heres the screen I get when I go to manage game:

As you can see, here I show Warzone 2 taking up a measly 6.2 GB. The total footprint of Modern Warfare IIs campaign, Co-Op, Multiplayer and Warzone 2 is under 50 GB.
Meanwhile, I was able to see the pre-load size on Battle.net. I have Modern Warfare II installed on Steam and on the Warzone 2 page it says you need 125 GB of space on your machine to install the game. However, in Battle.net, pre-loading requires just 17.4 GB:

If Warzone 2 is just 6.2 GB on Xbox and 17.4 GB on Battle.net I cant imagine its 38.6 GB on PlayStation, which suggests to me that there is some base game that includes files for both Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2, and thats also being installed on my PlayStation 5
Its possible that this is just the initial preload size, and there is another big update on the way that will require much more hard drive space. I have asked for clarification and will update this post when I find out more.

Ps Plus Premium Game Trials
Game trials are only available for PS Plus members subscribing to Premium, and they allow players to demo a game for a few hours before deciding if they want to purchase it or not. Game trials are not available for every title, but for the select games that are included any save data or trophies earned will be carried over should you purchase the game.
Is Playstation Plus Worth Getting
If you love to play online multiplayer games on PS4, PlayStation Plus is absolutely worth it. In fact, it is the only way to play online multiplayer games on PS4. As in Microsofts Xbox Live Gold and Nintendo Switch Online, paying for this feature is now pretty much standard.
As for the monthly free PlayStation 4 games, it sounds quite appealing in the beginning. But here is the kicker: youre limited to only two games Sony chooses for you. In reality, you may not like the selection at times and chances are you wont be able to play every one of them.
That said, the money you can save with the exclusive discounts, together with the convenience of the game saves on the cloud, make the PlayStation Plus membership well worth the money, even for someone like me who dont play multiplayer games very often.

PlayStation Plus recently underwent a name change and is now called PlayStation Plus Essential. This is to differentiate it from two new versions of the PlayStation Plu service in Australia.
PlayStation Plus Extra is a new, premium version of PlayStation Plus. This includes all the same perks as the base service, plus an additional 400 PS4 and PS5 games that you can download and play at no extra charge. A subscription to PlayStation Plus Extra will set you back $134.95 per year or $18.95 on a per-month basis.
Finally, there’s PlayStation Plus Deluxe. This is identical to PlayStation Plus Extra but with the addition of a classic library of PlayStation games from the PS3, PS2 and PS1 era. It also includes game trials. It costs $154.95 per year and $21.95 per month, respectively.
Get Two Free Ps4 Games Every Month
Every month, Sony offers several free games to PS Plus subscribers, also known as Instant Game Collection games. During the month these games are available, you can choose to buy them for free on the PlayStation 4. You can then keep these games in your library, download them and play for free as long as your PS Plus membership is active
PS Plus Update:Starting from March 2019, the free games Sony offers include only two games for the PlayStation 4.
If you dont redeem the game while its free for a month, you dont get it for free. This means you wont get any of the previously free games when you subscribe to PlayStation Plus. It also means that, if you dont download your free games every month, youll miss some and wont get them for free. For gamers who have been members of PS Plus for a long time, they may have a library full of hundreds of games they acquired for free.

Do Playstation Plus Free Games Expire
Once your PlayStation Plus membership expires, all free games and downloadable contents obtained will not be accessible until you renew your subscription. Attempting to launch an expired game will pop up a message that says This content can be used if you renew the license in PlayStation Store.
