PS4 power button fix

The third solution is to disassemble the PS4 yourself and troubleshooting the issue.

Many people report that after having their PS4 casually opened for the first time, a metal piece snaps which afterward leads to no electricity reaching the power button.

It is recommended to stay confident in such moments as the task of repairing the power buttons metal piece is not that hard and doesnt require any specific equipment.

Keep in mind that reassembling your PS4 leads to warranty loss and once opened, you will not be able to get support from the official manufacturer of the console.

Note:

If the PS4 power button not working but the eject button beeps, this could be a clear sign that the ejection button works.

This is a commonly searched issue when your PS4 power button is unresponsive and the conclusion often is a broken power button.

Ps4 Not Working Check The Power Button

Okay, so the worst has come to the worst: your beloved PS4 appears to have suddenly, heartbreakingly, stopped working. It just wont turn on.

There are a lot of different possible explanations for this, of course, but theres one common cause that weve seen time and time again. If youre a frequent user of your PS4s power button, then this button can actually become permanently pressed down without you even realizing it. Alternatively, an obstruction can occur which stops the power button from actually making contact when you press it, rendering it useless. If this does happen, the likelihood is that your console simply wont turn on, whatever you try, and itll be particularly difficult to get it into Safe Mode.

We realize that sounds pretty scary, but dont panic! With a couple of basic tools, its actually a pretty easy solution to fix. Simply take a screwdriver and unscrew the cover from the top of your console. Remove it, and you should be able to get a good look at the power button. From there, you can identify and remove any obstructions, or prise the power button free if its become stuck.

Fix Shut Down Issues With Ps4 Safe Mode

If you want to troubleshoot your PS4 for any reason, such as your screen being frozen and your controller not working, you may want to try and enter Safe Mode. Youll first have to force your PS4 to shut down by unplugging the console. This is not a recommended method of turning it off, but if your PS4 isnt working properly it may help fix it.

Also make sure your controller is connected via USB to allow you to control your PS4.

To boot up in Safe Mode:

  • When the PS4 is completely off, plug the console back in and press and hold the power button for 7 seconds, until you hear two beeps.
  • The PS4 should boot up in Safe Mode. From here, youll have multiple options to reconfigure and restart the console.
  • Choosing Restart will simply try to restart the console, which could be helpful if you were unable to turn it off before.

Change Resolution will make your PS4 restart in a different resolution to help speed it up to fix any issues you might be having.

Update System Software will allow you to update the console if it is needed, which could help fix problems with outdated software. You can avoid this with automatic updates.

Restore Default Settings will put your PS4 back into its factory settings while keeping the data you have stored. But always back up your PS4 data to the cloud to prevent any loss.

Rebuild Database will restructure the PS4s drive to possibly fix issues.

Solution : Pressing The Power Button Properly

There has been much confusion about the power button of the PS4 Pro. By glancing at its design, one might think that it is a touch button which will respond by the slightest touch of the finger. However, this is not the case at all.

The button might look as if it is touch responsive but in reality, it is a physical button which will only respond if you press it entirely. So make sure that your console is plugged into the main and power and press the power button all the way in. You will probably feel a click response when you press it correctly.

    Solution : Checking Power Connection

If you are still unable to turn your PS4 back on, it is possible that the power connection into which you are trying to plug the console into is not working properly. Either this or the cable of your PS4 is not connected either from the plug end or from the PS4 itself.

In this case, you need to try plugging your console into a different socket somewhere else which you know works for sure. If even this doesnt work out, it is recommended that you take your console to a service center and let the experts look into the console themselves. It is not safe for you to open the console and check if you dont have any experience.

Beeps When Coming Out Of Rest Mode

Your PS4 may start fine with no issue, but the beeps come out after turning on the PS4 from the Rest Mode.

You may have put the PS4 in Rest Mode, then it beeps when you press the power button on the controller to turn it on. Your PS4 has the latest firmware and system software update, yet it still gives out these annoying beeps.

For quite some time, the PS4 would randomly beep at unexpected moments while it is in rest mode. After doing some investigation, my research leads me to one of two problems:

    • Overheating system
    • Failing hard drive

So, first, make sure the PS4 is clean inside and the fan is spinning seamlessly and you have no issue with overheating. Additionally, you can read more our guide on PS4 overheating if you need additional details about this issue.

If you confirm then that its the PS4 hard drive that causes this issue, you have to try first to fix it before seeking a replacement. Try to full format it by connecting it to a computer. If the PS4 hard drive is not physically damaged, a full format should restore its original functionality and the beeps will fade out.

Otherwise, you have to replace the PS4 internal hard drive with a better drive. In fact, you have to do that step in all cases if you seek performance improvement and want to avoid any major errors in the future.

How to turn on PS4 with a broken power button

Theres no question about it Sonys PlayStation 4 is an absolute masterpiece of design. We loved the PS3, of course, but even on release it was never exactly beautiful to look at. The PS4 has been out for well over four years, and still looks as sleek and classy as it ever did.

    Stop Laughing I’m Not Alone

I’ll admit that this is kind of a shameful secret, and everyone is welcome to make fun of me. I’ll just kind of touch the front of the system over and over until it either turns on or the disc is ejected. I purchase most of my games digitally, or I’m provided download codes from a publisher if I’m covering their game, so the eject button can often be safely ignored.

You can also just turn on the system using the PlayStation jewel on the controller, so I’ve never really needed to learn which console button is which. So I guess, every time, and keep jabbing at them until whatever I want to happen, happens.

I thought I was alone, until this tweet from coworker Nick Robinson blew up.

RT if three years later you still don’t know which of these is the ‘power’ button and which is the ‘eject’ button

    Nick Robinson May 15, 2016

That tweet has more than 1,700 retweets at the time this story was published. Around 1,500 people have liked it. So it clearly touched a nerve.

People have begun to share their own frustrations with the buttons. A Polygon editor thanked me for writing this and said, and I’ll quote directly, “Fuck those buttons.” Others are sharing their surprise that those were buttons at all. Yes, really. I learned that you can actually go into an options menu in software and eject a disc that way. We all learned a lot about gaming and a little bit about ourselves.

Beeps When Turning On The Ps4

The PS4 three beeps at start-up mean there has been a parity error in base memory. This problem affects the first 64kb block of memory in the PS4 RAM.

Additionally, the three beeps may mean that the motherboard timer is not working properly but they could also mean that theres a problem with the RAM module thats in the lowest slot.

Like all RAM and motherboard problems in PS4, this isnt usually something youll be able to fix yourself or get repaired. You have to consult with an experienced technician.

If the beeps constantly continue and dont stop, it means either the CPU or GPU is damaged. It can mean also the motherboard is miserably malfunctioning and is about to go on the fritz.

    Resolving the Issue

The only thing you can do here is to turn off the PS4, switch off the power and unplug the power cable from the power outlet. Wait minimum of 10 seconds then plug the power cable and switch on the power. Now try to turn on the PS4 and check whether the problem is resolved or not.

If not, most likely your PS4 is in dire straits and you have to take it to a well-versed technician.

How Does The Power Button Work

How to Turn Off PS4 Without a Controller

I’ve pulled apart a PS4 to replace the case with a custom one, now I’m wanting to use custom buttons but upon looking at how the PS4 power and eject buttons work it appears that just touching them with a piece of metal works.

I’d like to use a momentary push button to turn it on – how can I do this?

The buttons on these older model PS4’s are touch buttons. The newer model of PS4 1215A has mechanical buttons. You can touch them with metal or your finger or most anything that conducts well.

While theoretically possible it would likely be very difficult to convert this touch sensor over to a mechanical one. There are several common touch sensor circuits that can be used so you would first have to figure out which one is used in the circuit then you would know whether it would even be possible or not. I know that’s not much to go on but hopefully it helps.

Solution : Blowing Air Into The Console

There were also cases seen where there was dust accumulated into the console which caused the fans to get jammed. If the fans are unable to start and function properly, the PS4 refuses to turn on because of the safety protocols in place to prevent it from overheating.

There are two ways through which you can clean your console properly. Either you can take it to a service station and ask the professional to service the console or you can blow/vacuum air into/from the console. This latter is more efficient and may help us quickly diagnose whether is the issue is really of the dust. Be careful that you dont blow too much air as your console can get damaged as well. Also, make sure that you blow air into the two holes in the cable.

Remove And Reinsert The Hard Drive

The hard drive is easy to access on all PS4 models without needing to void the warranty or having to take the system apart. Sometimes, if the HDD connection is loose, you will get the blue light with a single beep. The problem is most often associated with the PSU, but it can also be fixed by simply removing the hard drive and inserting it back in again.

You will not lose any data stored on the drive-by doing this, it is perfectly safe. Just make sure the system is not turned on when you do this.

Give A Slight Tap Near The Power Connection

If your system has been sitting on a counter, untouched, you wouldnt expect this to be a problem but a slight tap can dislodge some dust or any bad connection that could be causing the system to fail to boot properly. Please be careful here. A tap is fairly gentle, do not go punching the damn thing!

My Controller Wont Connect Using Safe Mode Whats The Deal

Many users have expressed issues with Safe Mode and the controllers. Of course, you need to plug your controller into one of the USB ports on the console after booting in Safe Mode, as stated above. Essentially, this pairing process happens because the USB connection sends information from the controller to the console, telling it to work.

Assuming your controller charges , its likely that the cable youre using is the cause. For example, if you still have the USB cable that came with your console, use that one. But, if youre using a third-party one, try a different one. You may have to try several cables, but you need a data transfer cable and not just a charging cable.

It can be a little challenging to tell which cable is a data transfer cable, but comparing two side-by-side, the sheathing on a transfer cable is generally thicker than that of a standard charging cable.
