Xbox One Or Ps4 Which Should I Buy

Don't Miss

Xbox One Vs Ps: Entertainment

PS4 vs XBOX ONE WHICH ONE SHOULD I BUY ?

For sheer options, Xbox One is the superior entertainment machine. The system has the unique ability to transmit your cable box’s TV signal, allowing you to quickly switch between playing a game and watching a show. The Xbox One S, Xbox One X and PS4 Pro can all stream 4K content, but only Microsoft’s consoles can play 4K Blu-rays. However, the new Xbox One S All-Digital Edition has no disc drive at all, and is limited to 4K streaming.

Unlike PS4, Xbox One supports Dolby Atmos, allowing folks with compatible home theater products to enjoy immersive spatial sound, and will soon support Dolby Vision for improved HDR quality.

The Xbox One is also the only console that features Kodi, a highly popular media server app that lets you access any movies, TV shows, images or songs you have stored on any of your devices around the house.

Other than that, both PS4 and Xbox One cover most entertainment essentials, from major apps like Netflix and Hulu to more niche stuff like WWE Network and Crunchyroll. PS4 and Xbox One both offer Spotify, which lets you rock out to tunes in the background of whatever you’re playing. Xbox One features a few other notable music services such as SoundCloud, Pandora and Deezer.

Winner: Xbox One. The Xbox One offers a 4K Blu-ray option, better media apps and Dolby Atmos support.

Is Buying A Ps4 Or Xbox One Still Worth It

If you’re in the market for a PS4 or Xbox One, you are surprisingly not alone. In spite of the PS5 and Xbox Series X coming out months ago, Sony and Microsoft’s last-gen consoles are just as popular as ever, not to mention increasingly hard to find.

It’s not difficult to understand why people are buying PS4s and Xbox Ones in droves. They can’t find PS5s or Xbox Series Xs, and it’s better to have an outdated console than no console at all particularly if you needed something to give as a holiday gift.

Also, the PS5 has few true exclusives the Xbox Series X has none. The PS4 and Xbox One still have at least a little life left in them. But is it worth picking up one of these aging consoles instead of their hard-to-find replacements?

The short answer is “no.” While the current-gen consoles have their charms, particularly for new gamers, they simply no longer represent a good investment.

Neowin’s Senior News Editor For Europe Andy Weir Is Finally Ready To Buy A New

To my great surprise, I didn’t rush out and buy an Xbox One on the first day of its release in the UK last year. Even after the price cuts that followed its launch, I still didn’t buy one, although I got as far as going through the entire checkout process, with my finger hovering over the final ‘confirm your purchase’ button for a couple of minutes before ultimately backing out.

Ever since the very first Xbox was released in Europe in 2002, I’ve been an Xbox gamer, and my 360 has been an excellent companion . But moving from the 360 to the Xbox One wasn’t quite the no-brainer that I expected it to be.

I’ve looked on with some interest at Sony’s new PlayStation 4. Like its predecessors, it’s a sleek and stylish machine and, like the Xbox One, it offers a compelling mix of games and entertainment services. For the first time in a long, long time, I’m seriously considering buying a PlayStation, simply because there’s nothing especially compelling that’s tying me down to Xbox. Even if I stick with Xbox, I’ll still have to buy new games for the One, since there’s no backwards compatibility with the previous generation.

Having spoken to dozens of people in a similar situation to mine over the last few months, it’s becoming clear that there are many folks out there facing the same dilemma and, like me, most of them have narrowed it down to just the two options – PS4 or Xbox One – having dismissed Nintendo’s Wii U as an overpriced curiosity with only limited appeal.

Are You Bored As Hell Right Now A Console Will Help

User activity is peaking across online gaming platforms like Steam, Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network, and it’s no surprise. If you know other people who play games and you’ve got a console on the same platform, it’s a way to hang out together virtually while pubs and cafes are out of the question.

While you need to pay for membership to access online multiplayer gaming services like PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold, once you’re on there, you’ve got a rich option of free games to enjoy, like Apex Legends, Warframe, or Fortnite. Collectively, that’s hundreds of hours of fun without the need to spend any extra money. You can pick up a ton of older games on both for very little money if you shop around, too.

While waiting for a PS5 or Xbox Series X is the better long-term decision, getting a PS4 or Xbox One right now might just make these slow days go by a little quicker.

Xbox One X Vs Ps4 Pro

Xbox One vs PlayStation 4: Which Should I Buy? Price ...

ByLeon Hurley19 November 2018

A new year’s a good time to consider console upgrades, so we discuss whether you should you get a PS4 Pro or Xbox One X

As the bargains begin to drop in 2019, the idea of upgrading your console suddenly becomes a more enticing idea. But theres one big question to address: should you pick up Sony’s console with some PS4 Pro deals or go for one of the many Xbox One X deals instead? Its actually a tricky one to answer as it all depends on what you really want to get out of your new console. One has more exclusives, the other has more free games , for example. Which is more important to you? Then there are differences in 4K outputs, UI, storage, capture and so on that can register as a complete deal breaker or no great shakes depending on what matters to you. There will be plenty of PS4 Black Friday offers, and Black Friday Xbox One X deals come November, so lets take a look at the both and weigh up the options on offer.

Do The Ps4 And Xbox One Support Vr

If youre looking to break into the world of VR with your console, theres only one choice: PS4. PlayStation VR is the only headset currently compatible with a console, and its only supported by the PS4.

Unfortunately, theres no way to use a VR headset with the Xbox, so that kind of takes them out of the competition by default. PSVR is one of the cheapest ways to get into virtual reality, and if thats your main interest this console generation, then go for the PS4.

Don’t Buy A Ps4 Or Xbox One

This is common knowledge for dedicated gamers at this point, but may not be immediately apparent to more casual consumers: The PS5 is fully backwards compatible with the PS4. The Xbox Series X is fully backwards compatible with the Xbox One, and partially backwards compatible with the Xbox 360 and original Xbox.

As such, you can pay $300 for a PS4 or an Xbox One, or $500 for a PS5 or Xbox Series X. When you consider that you’ll probably have to upgrade within a year or two anyway, putting that $300 toward a new console instead of an old one makes a lot of sense.

The calculus is even starker when you remember that the 4K-capable PS4 Pro and Xbox One X variants still go for around $400, and both the PS5 and Xbox Series X have cheaper versions available. The $300 Xbox Series X isn’t 4K-capable, but is otherwise a very powerful little machine, while the $400 PS5 Digital Edition lacks a disc drive but is otherwise identical to the standard PS5.

A PS5 will play every PS4 game . It will also play 4K Blu-ray discs, which no PS4 model has ever supported. An Xbox Series X will play every Xbox One game, and you can even get all first-party Microsoft releases for a flat monthly fee withXbox Game Pass.

As for when you’ll be able to pick up that shiny newPS5 orXbox Series X, well, that’s harder to answer.

Why Buy A Ps4 Or Xbox One

During big sales events such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the Tom’s Guide staff uses search trends to help us find deals. Imagine my surprise when I found that “PS4” and “Xbox One” were, far and away, two of the most popular search terms.

Customers were desperate to find PS4s and Xbox Ones , and when we were lucky enough to find the elusive consoles in stock, they sold out almost as fast as their newer counterparts.

As I said, I think the time to buy one of these consoles is past unless you can find a new-in-box model at a staggering discount. But clearly, there must be some reason why people are still buying these systems in droves.

The simple answer is that no one can find the PS5 or the Xbox Series X, whereas the PS4 and Xbox One are comparatively more available. Since we’re very early in the next-gen consoles’ life cycles, the current-gen consoles still play 99% of the same games. Combine this with the holiday compulsion to give gifts and it’s not hard to understand why the PS4 and Xbox One are having one last hurrah.

In all seriousness, there are a few reasons why the PS4 and Xbox One are still viable. There’s the game library, as discussed above, which should be relatively stable for at least the next year, possibly more. Also, most consumersdon’t own 4K TVs, so 1080p-optimized consoles aren’t as much of a dealbreaker as you might think.

Is One Refurbished Console Better Than The Other

Should I Buy a PS4 or Xbox One? Or PC?

The truth is, that neither of these consoles really outclasses the other, at least not in terms of specs. It was a very different story back in the days of the Xbox 360 vs. the PS3, where the PlayStation offered free online play whereas the Xbox had a better overall online ecosystem . If you were a gamer back then, you may also remember that the PS3 was able to play Blu-ray Discs, while the Xbox 360 wasnt. Both the PS4 and Xbox One can play Blu-ray movies, in case you were wondering.

But the truth is that now the Xbox and PlayStation are very evenly matched, and this is a good thing, because there was never any need for a dispute among which console was better. It was from the beginning, and still is now, a matter of preference.

Reasons To Buy An ‘xbox One S’ Instead Of A ‘ps4 Pro’

It’s only September, but the holiday season is already fast-approaching. This means we have a bunch of big purchases in our near future, whether those are gifts to loved ones or Black Friday deals.

For video games and the people who love to play them, 2016’s holiday season is the first since 2013 in which brand new video game consoles are being sold. Granted, these aren’t brand new in the same way the PS4 and Xbox One were brand new three years ago, but they do represent significant refreshes to both Sony and Microsoft’s gaming systems.

In an effort to help conflicted shoppers in the coming months, here are six reasons why it makes more sense to buy an Xbox One S instead of the PS4 Pro this holiday season.

Which console should you buy this holiday season?

1. Ultra-HD Blu-Ray

Both the Xbox One S and the PS4 Pro are taking advantage of 4K resolution and HDR technology. But while the PS4 Pro boasts a more powerful processor and graphics chip, the Xbox One S is the only console available with a built-in Ultra-HD Blu-Ray player. This is important.

First, let’s get some definitions out of the way.

Most HD television sets right now boast a 1080p resolution. That’s “HD” and that’s also the resolution that a standard Blu-Ray disc plays at.

But now we have a new generation of TV technology called Ultra-HD. This displays at 4K resolution—essentially four times the pixel count of 1080p. It’s much more high-fidelity, and is mostly noticeable on bigger screens.

In Conclusion

Should You Buy A Ps4 In 2021

Looking at all these considerations, is the PS4 worth buying right now? It depends on your situation.

If you want to play a lot of titles that are available on PS4 and don’t have another game console, then the PS4 is still a good buy. The PS4 Pro is more future-proofed, but since its price is close to a PS5, we’d recommend sticking to a PS4 Slim. If you do buy a PS4, consider buying a second-hand model from a reputable seller to bring the cost down.

With a PS4, you can still enjoy cross-play with PS5 players in many games. Plus, you can take most of your games with you when you upgrade to a PS5 .

If you see yourself buying a PS5 in the next year, we’d recommend waiting for that instead. It doesn’t make much sense to spend $300 on a PS4 now, only to spend $500 on a PS5 shortly after. In the meantime, you might consider trying a few games using PS Now on your PC.

If you’re not interested in PlayStation exclusives at all, consider a Nintendo Switch instead. That system is four years old, but it offers a lot for $300. You get a system that you can play at home or on the go with a wide variety of first-party Nintendo titles, plus third-party ports and indie games.

The Switch will likely receive support for longer than the PS4 just keep in mind that it’s not as powerful. As a result, cross-platform games like Doom Eternal and Overwatch are not as smooth on Switch.

Xbox One Vs Ps: Performance And Graphics

If you’re concerned about nuts and bolts, the starting versions of both consoles have an 8-core x86-64 AMD Jaguar processor with 8GB of RAM, an AMD Radeon GPU and a 500GB hard drive.

While games generally look and play great on both systems, PS4 has the edge in terms of resolution. For example, according to IGN’s database, games such as Batman: Arkham Knight and Shadow of Mordor all run at full 1080p on PS4, while Xbox One gamers have to settle for 900p on those titles. If getting the best possible crispness for most games is a priority, PS4 comes out on top.

However, when it comes to the premium versions of both consoles, Xbox has an edge. The $499 Xbox One X plays many titles in native 4K, and has the most powerful overall specs of any console out there. The $399 PS4 Pro technically plays games in 4K, but the experience is oftentimes upscaled rather than true 4K. For a detailed look at how these consoles stack up, check out our Xbox One X vs. PS4 Pro face-off.

Folks with HDR-ready TVs should also consider High Dynamic Range support, which allows for richer colors and better brightness. The Xbox One X, Xbox One S, PS4 Pro and standard PS4 all support HDR, though the list of HDR-enabled games varies by console.

Winner: PS4. Games look stunning on both systems, but the stock PS4 offers better resolution for many titles.
