How Often Should I Clean My Ps4

How To I Take Apart The Controller
While we’ve focused on taking you console apart, I think it’s worth mentioning that the controller comes apart as well. There are multiple reasons why you would do this ranging from simple cleaning, to replacing the battery since it is internal and will eventually lose a charge. Follow these steps to get the controller open:
- Use a Phillips Screwdriver to remove the four screws on the back of the controller
- Turn the controller over and facing toward you. Using a plastic opening tool, pinch the left shoulder and wedge open the crack on the front of the left grip. Do the same for the right shoulder
- Turn the controller away from you and use your plastic tool to open the splittings near the share and options buttons on the backside by the light bar.
- Be careful not to lose the 2 trigger springs or the 1 grey reset button extension when opening this portion.
- Careful detach the motherboard ribbon to detach the bottom and top halves of the controller.
At this point you will have the controller full opened and the battery will be exposed. If you need to change the battery out, do so by using blunt forceps to gently unplug the battery from the motherboard. At this point you can take it out and replace it. Now we’ll dive a little deeper to full disassemble it:

Remove the top panel of the PS4 case. It is easy to remove, just pull up until the clamps open.

On the backside of the PS4, where the connection ports are located, remove stickers, and below them screws that we need to unscrew.
Now unscrew the four screws, and for this use the T8 Torx screwdriver.
Next, remove the cover of the PS4 case. Start to open the case from the same side.
On the backside of cover, you can see dust. Use a brush or napkin for cleaning the case from dust.
Lets remove the power supply of PS4 game console. First, unscrew three screws T8 Torx. Then unscrew two screws using PH0 screwdriver.
Disconnect four-wire connector from the power supply. The connector is fixed quite tightly, and if you cannot get it as easily, to disconnect the cable use tweezers.
Next, using a plastic tool, pull up on the right side, then on the left side. The right side of the power supply will be harder to pull up.
If there is a lot of dust inside the power supply, it is better to remove this dust. To do this, unscrew the two screws on the power supply and open it for cleaning.
Disconnect the blue-ray drive cable from the PS4 motherboard. To do this, press the tweezers onto the iron plate and pull the cable to the side.
Next, unplug the optical drive power connector by lifting it up. In addition, disconnect the Wi-Fi antenna from the motherboard.

What Does The Inside Of Your Ps4 Look Like Anyway
While I dont recommend you take apart your PS4, you may be curious about what it looks like inside the console. Thats natural curiosity, so lets satiate it, shall we?
Beyond its protective shell, your console is a series of chips, boards, and wires. Nothing remarkable there. The hard drive is housed on the top left of most PS4s . Then theres the centrifugal fan, which Ill get back to in the next section. As I mentioned in the intro, this is your culprit if your PS4 is running noisily.
Theres also the power supply, which runs on alternating current at 120/240 volts. Beneath the power supply are several capacitors. Youll find a DVD/Blu-ray drive, an optical drive board, and the motherboard itself, too.
If you want to see all these pieces as theyre being disassembled, theres a really cool breakdown here. Just to repeat it, I do not advise you to unscrew and take apart your PlayStation to get to the bottom of whats causing the noise. There are several reasons not to do this.
First, if you have any kind of warranty or protection plan on your console, youll immediately void it. If you look through your PlayStation 4 owners manual, theres even a section specifically prohibiting you from disassembling the console.
Second, unless youre very experienced, you probably wont be able to put the PS4 back together again and have it in working shape. Lastly, and most importantly, you put yourself at risk of electric shocks and laser radiation. Its just not worth it.

How To Clean The Ps4 Slim And Ps4 Pro
To clean the fan on the PS4 Slim, you don’t need to remove the warranty sticker. It’s much easier to remove the cover, too. All you have to do is pull up on the left and right corners on the front of your system. Pull on the middle, then slide the cover back and it will come right off.
From here, you’ll be able to see the fan even though it’s obstructed by a cover. If your fan doesn’t look too dirty , you can spray some canned air into it and probably call it a day. Remember to use a cotton swab to prevent the fan from spinning.
For full cleaning, you’ll need to remove several screws from the cover and the power supply plate. Since we focused on the original PS4 here, please see the video below for PS4 Slim-specific instructions.
The PS4 Pro is similar, but it’s even simpler. Simply pull up on the front left and right corners to loosen the cover, then slide it back. You can see the fan as soon as you remove this, making basic cleaning quite easy.
Unfortunately, the heat sink is buried deep in the PS4 Pro, and accessing it requires disassembling almost the entire console. Thus, you should stick to just cleaning the fan if you have a PS4 Pro. Check the below video for more details.
