Originally launching on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in 2015, Dragon’s Dogma Online is the multiplayer follow-up to Capcom’s superb action role-playing game, Dragon’s Dogma. However, despite some rumours that would persist over the next few years, the action MMO never left Japan. The general consensus is that it’s a pretty good game, too, with some cool character classes and slick combat.

But after four years on the market, Capcom’s shutting the title down. The company has confirmed that on the 5th December 2019, it’ll be pulling the plug. Apparently, it’s “become difficult to continue offering a satisfactory service”. No doubt sad news for those who continue to enjoy the game, but at the same time, we can’t imagine that it’s been making Capcom much money.

If you want to give Dragon’s Dogma Online a shot before it disappears forever, you can head over to the Japanese PlayStation Store and download it — it’s free-to-play. You’d best be quick, though, as Capcom will be pulling the title from said store next week, on the 11th July.

It’s a bit of a shame to see Dragon’s Dogma Online be killed off like this. For years we were hoping that Capcom would at least give the game a chance here in the West, but for whatever reason, the publisher never committed to the idea.

Guess You Dont Have To Worry About Those Microtransactions

Dragons Dogma Online sounded sketchy from its the free-to-play scheme and microtransactions angle. But Ill give anything a shot once, and who knows maybe it could have been great, right?

Well we probably wont get the chance to find out, as Capcom has informed Eurogamer there are no plans to release in the west. Well, thats a bummer. It would have been an easy sell to download for free on the PS4, much less a PS3 or PC.

Game director Kent Kinoshita revealed the resolution and frame rate details during a recent event in Tokyo, DualShockers reports. The PlayStation 3 edition of the game, meanwhile, will output at 720p/30fps.

DualShockers points out that, of course, Dragon’s Dogma Online–like other PS4 games–can’t guarantee 60fps for every scene. In fact, the socially inspired game will accommodate as many as 100 players on screen at once, which will more than likely result in some level of frame rate drop.

Also during the event, it was confirmed that Dragon’s Dogma Online will support cross-platform play. PS4, PS3, and PC users will all play together on the same servers.

Announced in January, Dragon’s Dogma Online is scheduled to launch in Japan later this year. An open-world game, the title appears to play similar to the original Dragon’s Dogma and its Dark Arisen expansion. Capcom has not yet announced if Dragon’s Dogma Online will be released in the West.

The title, which emerged courtesy of a trademark filing late last year, was revealed in the latest issue of famous Japanese publication Famitsu, and is a free-to-play fantasy role-playing game for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, as well as the PC.

According to a translation of the abovementioned magazine’s article, series creator Hiroyuki Kobayashi will serve as the executive producer on the project. The title will feature a full open world, including lobbies for up to 100 players at once. You’ll be able to form parties of up to four people, where you’ll then be able to go on quests.
