Can You Cancel Save Data Transfer From Ps4 To Ps5
It is possible to stop the PS4 to PS5 save data transfer during the PS5’s initial setup, but it’s not recommended in case data gets corrupted.
Early adoption of a new console generation like the PlayStation 5 can be a confusing;process with a lot of questions. This is especially true for players attached to accounts they’ve been using for a while, like a;PSN profile. Luckily, for those coming to a PS5 from a PS4, the new console will display a prompt asking about save data transfer during its initial setup. Choosing to transfer save data can be a lengthy process, and sometimes the transfer gets stuck, leaving many to wonder if it’s possible to cancel;the transfer.
Strictly speaking, it is possible to cancel the initial save data transfer from a PS4 to a PS5, but it’s not recommended. Sony would likely agree with this sentiment since it doesn’t provide a button prompt on the screen to cancel while the transfer is active. The transfer requires the two consoles to be connected to the same internet connection in one way or another. This can be done wirelessly by getting the PlayStations on the same Wi-Fi network, or through a LAN cable. Connecting both consoles to a router with a LAN cable will work, but it can also be done with a single LAN cable by connecting the consoles directly to each other. Using only one LAN cable, however, still;requires the consoles to be connected to the internet wirelessly, but the cable will make the transfer faster.

Also, dont forget that you need an active PlayStation Plus membership in order to upload your saved game data to the cloud.;
If your PS5 is ready and you have everything covered, simply sign in to your PSN account and download your saved game data from PlayStation Plus cloud storage.
Update Your Ps4 And Check For The Data You Saved
Go to PS4 saved data and check for these two things:-
- Make sure the saved files are available there. If not then,
- Make sure your Ps4 is upto its latest software update
For some reason, it doesnt show the files when your ps4 isnt up to its latest update. It could be because of the compatibility or could be a problem with the cloud storage. So, it is better to update your PS4 to the latest update and you are good to go.
Go to setting>Users and accounts>Storage>Console storage >Saved data> PS4 games.
PS:- My advice to you is that dont sell your PS4 before you transfer all your data and files to the PS5 and in case youve already sold your PS4, Try coping up with the person you sold your ps4 to.

How To Transfer Ps4 Saves To Ps5 Version
Transferring PS4 game saves to the PS5 version is a little tricky. Since PlayStation doesn’t use a technology like “Smart Delivery” like Xbox, transferring game progress is usually left up to developers. This has led to a lot of confusion for gamers who just want a smooth transition path from the PS4 to the PS5, the same as Sony. As such, how you transfer game saves will vary from developer to developer, but heres a general guide for how most games are handling it. The following holds true for certain games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales, both of which had a native PS5 version.
- Update the PS4 game to the latest version
- Open the save menu
Make Sure Your Ps4 Is Fully Updated
In order for this process to even work in the first place, make sure your PS4 is fully updated to the most recent firmware update. Both systems need to support the file transfer process, have the same PSN account, and connect to the internet for it to work, so make sure both of your systems are up to date before you attempt a file transfer.
If you’re systems and save files are good to go, it’s time to start the actual data transfer, which is detailed in the video below and the rest of this article.

Ps4 Disks And Games On Extended Storage
Modern gamers have come to learn the benefits of extended storage. Thankfully, you can easily play PS4 games saved on an extended storage device by plugging it into your PS5. However, games like Chivalry 2;or that offer free PS5 upgrades will be saved to your main console storage. Make sure youre moving the PS4 version back to extended storage, or delete it. You can still move PS5 games to extended storage, so we recommend moving ones youre not currently playing.
For PS4 disks, all you have to do is insert the disk into your PS5, and it will download to your system storage. Of course, this depends on if you have the disk version of PS5 or the digital.
You can also download games youve purchased from the PlayStation Store in the past. You dont have to download them back to your PS4 and batch with the data transfer. So if you got your hands on Rocket League back when it was free on PSN in 2015, you could download it again to your PS5.
Moving Over To The Playstation 5
Now you know how to move all your PS4 content over to a PS5. It’s not difficult, but it might take some time depending on the amount of data you have and your network speed. But once they’re moved over, you won’t need your PS4 anymore, unless you want to use it for remote play or similar.
Unfortunately, the PS5’s SSD doesn’t have a ton of space, so you’ll probably need an external hard drive if you plan to play lots of PS4 games on PS5.

The first is with PlayStation Plus cloud storage, which is open to all PlayStation Plus subscribers. If you don’t have Auto-Upload enabled on your PS4 to back up your save data, head to Settings > Application Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Upload to Online Storage to upload relevant saves to the cloud.
Then, on your PS5, head to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings. Choose Saved Data > Cloud Storage > Download to Console Storage. Then pick what you want to download data for.
If you don’t have PS Plus, you can copy save data using a USB flash drive. On your PS4, go to Settings > Application Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Copy to USB Storage Device. Choose the data you want to move to the flash drive and confirm the copy operation.
Then, connect the USB drive to your PS5 and go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data > USB Drive. Select your saved data and move it over to your PS5.

How To Transfer Ps4 Saved Games To Ps5 And Play Psvr On The New Generation
This generation is big on backwards compatibility, so here’s how to transfer your PS4 stuff on over to PS5.
If you want to bring your PS4 save data across to PlayStation 5 in order to continue playing PS4 titles while enjoying the performance boosts and blistering fast load times possible on the new generation console, you’ve got a few different methods available to you.
Some of these options will let you transfer not just your save games, but complete game installations. Others will only let you transfer your save games, but even in that instance, you shouldn’t worry too much: you can get your owned PS4 games back on your PS5 quickly enough through installation. So long as the game is compatible, you can just slide the disc into your PS5 if you’re using the disc-supporting model, or for digital games just hit up the PlayStation store or your games library to redownload anything you own that’s PS5 compatible.
Many of you will likely choose to simply redownload the PS4 games you’re interested in to your shiny new PS5, but you’ll still need to be an active participant in bringing over those precious save games. This is similar to PS4, but just like powering off the PS5, the exact steps have changed a little. Anyway – here’s the methods by which you can transfer games and saves:
Transfer your data as part of the Setup Process
Transferring Saves or Games via External Drive
Transfer save games via PlayStation Plus
What about PSVR games?
Transfer Saves Via Playstation Plus
If you have a PlayStation Plus subscription, then you have another option for moving your saved data from one console to another.
Again, youll need to ensure that youre logged in to your PlayStation Plus account on both consoles. You can do this by going to the Settings menu and double-checking the Account menu to make sure that your username is the same on both consoles.
To move your saves, go to Settings > Application Saved Data Management.
These settings will let you control how to transfer saved data between the system storage, the online cloud storage you get with PS Plus, and a USB device . Select Saved Data in System Storage.
From there, choose Upload to Online Storage. This option has a little PlayStation Plus symbol next to it.
Youll see a list of all the games for which you have saved data. Selecting one game will show you a list of every single save you have in the game. You can choose to transfer all or just specific saves.
This process will also alert you if these saves are already uploaded to the cloud. PlayStation Plus frequently syncs saves, so you may not have to repeat the process manually.
Once youve uploaded all the saves you wish to the cloud, turn on your PS5 and download the game of your choice.
Then go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings.
From there, scroll down to Saved Data , then select Cloud Storage from the submenu. Itll have a little PS Plus symbol next to it.
Select Download to Console Storage.

Transferring Ps4 Save Files To Ps5
Save games can be transferred in various ways too. The Data Transfer option will move over all save games during the transfer process, so if you choose that method there’s nothing additional to worry about. If not, then you can either transfer save manually using an external hard drive or flash drive, or you can download them via your PlayStation Plus cloud storage. Ensure that you have uploaded your save games and have an active PS Plus subscription to use this option. Moving a game over does not mean its save data is automatically coming, too. Unless you want to start from scratch, make sure you transfer it!
