Methods #2-4 above all allow you to transfer PS4 game data to your PS5, but they don’t transfer your actual save files. If you didn’t use method #1 to transfer your saves, you’ll need to use another way to copy save data over.
The first is with PlayStation Plus cloud storage, which is open to all PlayStation Plus subscribers. If you don’t have Auto-Upload enabled on your PS4 to back up your save data, head to Settings > Application Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Upload to Online Storage to upload relevant saves to the cloud.
Then, on your PS5, head to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings. Choose Saved Data > Cloud Storage > Download to Console Storage. Then pick what you want to download data for.
If you don’t have PS Plus, you can copy save data using a USB flash drive. On your PS4, go to Settings > Application Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Copy to USB Storage Device. Choose the data you want to move to the flash drive and confirm the copy operation.
Then, connect the USB drive to your PS5 and go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data > USB Drive. Select your saved data and move it over to your PS5.

If you have a PlayStation Plus subscription, then you have another option for moving your saved data from one console to another.
Again, youll need to ensure that youre logged in to your PlayStation Plus account on both consoles. You can do this by going to the Settings menu and double-checking the Account menu to make sure that your username is the same on both consoles.
To move your saves, go to Settings > Application Saved Data Management.
These settings will let you control how to transfer saved data between the system storage, the online cloud storage you get with PS Plus, and a USB device . Select Saved Data in System Storage.
From there, choose Upload to Online Storage. This option has a little PlayStation Plus symbol next to it.
Youll see a list of all the games for which you have saved data. Selecting one game will show you a list of every single save you have in the game. You can choose to transfer all or just specific saves.
This process will also alert you if these saves are already uploaded to the cloud. PlayStation Plus frequently syncs saves, so you may not have to repeat the process manually.
Once youve uploaded all the saves you wish to the cloud, turn on your PS5 and download the game of your choice.
Then go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings.
From there, scroll down to Saved Data , then select Cloud Storage from the submenu. Itll have a little PS Plus symbol next to it.

The Data Transfer option will move over all save games during the transfer process, so if you choose that method there’s nothing additional to worry about. If not, then you can either transfer save manually using an external hard drive or flash drive, or you can download them via your PlayStation Plus cloud storage. Ensure that you have uploaded your save games and have an active PS Plus subscription to use this option. Moving a game over does not mean its save data is automatically coming, too. Unless you want to start from scratch, make sure you transfer it!
