How To Back Up All Of Your Ps4 Data

How to Backup Saved Data on PS4 & Upload to PSN CLOUD Storage (Fast Method!)

First, you’ll need a USB external hard drive that’s got at least double the memory of your PS4’s data. You can see how much data your PS4 is using by going through Settings > Storage and looking at System Storage.

Connect your USB hard drive to your PS4, head to Settings > Devices > USB Storage Devices, and select your external hard drive.

You’ll need to format your hard drive as either FAT32 or exFAT before you can start to back up your PS4 data on it. Thankfully, you can do this on your PS4. You should currently see the option to Format as Extended Storage. Press the Options button and select Format as exFAT.

Note that this deletes all existing data from your external hard drive, so it’s best to use a completely new one. You also can’t use the same external hard drive as both a backup device and an extended storage device for your PS4. You’ll need another external hard drive if you want to use external storage on your PS4.

Now that you’ve formatted your external hard drive, go through Settings > System > Back Up and Restore > Back Up PS4. Here, you can choose whether to include your application install data. As you can always reinstall this data via a physical disc or digital download, you can choose not to and save hours of backup time in the process. Select Next, name your backup if you like, then select Back Up.

Your PS4 will prepare the backup, restart, and then back up everything, which could take hours depending on how much data you’re backing up.

How to Backup PS4 Save Data to USB in One Minute

You can also upload saves to Sonys servers manually. If you have automatic uploads enabled, you can probably leave this alone and let your PS4 handle it.

The main reason you might want to upload saves manually is if you play on a PS4 that isnt set as your primary console. If you want to maintain progress across multiple consoles, youll have to upload the save files stored on any other PS4s manually.

Uploading manually is very straightforward, but there are two ways you can do it. If the game is on the Home screen, highlight it, and then press the Options button. Select Upload/Download Saved Data. From here, you can choose Upload All or Select and Upload if theres a specific save file you want to upload.

You can also access these options via the console preferences. Just head to Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage, and then choose Upload to Online Storage.

Wait for the PS4 to read the disk , and then select the game you want. You can also hit Options and choose Select Multiple Applications to upload entire folders, instead.

When you upload a save file, youll be asked if you want to overwrite any corresponding files that exist in storage. Not all games support multiple save files, but many do. If youre playing a game with a single save file, youll have to make sure the version youre uploading is the one you want to keep.

Why You Cannot Transfer Ps4 Game To Pc

How to back up your ps4 saved data

You can transfer PS4 game data to a USB drive no problem but to the PC these data files are encrypted, and the ability of your PC understanding these save files has been broken.

Transferring non-cross-platform games from PS4 to PC is only possible with Bethesda games like Skyrim, as certain coders have made tools that allow you to move save data from PS3 to PC, so these tools are very platform and game-specific.

For a game that is not Skyrim to be moved from PS4 to PC like Witcher 3, someone needs to create a tool for that game for PS4 which is not easy to do. and takes a lot of time to create.

If your game data is cross-platform like Fortnite or Rocket league, everything is saved on the cloud and very little is based on your PS4 so transferring saves is easy. To understand more about cross-platform gaming and how it works, please check this post.

But why would developers not make cross saves more possible? Different consoles and PCs have different BIOS which is is the console or PCs output/input system, that affect how your device boots up after you turn it on, and different decoding options making cross saves difficult to create.

Every console and specific games would need separate modifications for cross saves, and there isnt enough interest for developers to make it a fully supported function.

However, you can transfer PS4 saved data files into a USB for storage purposes, as if your PS4 is 500 GB it will often run out of space, see below for a guide.

When you’re done, you can plug that flash drive into your PS5 and head to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data > USB Drive. Choose Copy to Console Storage and select the game saves you want to migrate. Press the Copy button, and things should move onto your console storage fairly quickly, allowing you to pick up right where you left off .

Can You Share Ps4 Save Files

Your save data is tied to the PlayStation Network account on which it was created, not the console. This means you can download and transfer your save data to any other PS4, provided the same account exists on that console.

However, it also means you cant share save files with other playerstheyre only accessible to you.
