Pairing The Ps4 Media Remote

Anyway, I popped in the batteries and went to work programming the remote for my PS4. You’ll need to connect a controller and navigate to the Devices —>Bluetooth Devices section of the settings menu.

Once you’re there you press the PlayStation button on the remote to wake it up. From there, hold down the PlayStation button and the Share button on the remote until the red light in the top right corner of the remote starts to flash.

When that happens, hold the remote close to the PS4. I’m going to mention this more than once, but I’ll start here: the instruction manual has multiple typos! The first one states that the PS4 will register the device as a “PDP Universal Media Remote.” Not for me, instead I saw a remote icon and a blank name appear. When I selected it with the controller to sync the device, then it read as a remote, but not prior to that.

Once that’s finished, the remote is paired.

Connecting Your Device To Inputmapper

If InputMapper didn’t open on its own, open it from your Desktop. The software should instantly recognize your device, and show you a screen like the following;

If your remote isn’t shown in the software, ensure it is turned on by pressing the PS button. If the Remote is on, but not connecting, try closing InputMapper completely, and opening it again.

Known Issues With The Dualshock 4 And Apple Tv

Unfortunately, there are some well-documented issues with the Apple TV and DualShock 4, though its unclear whether these issues affect only certain revisions of hardware. Many people report that the DualShock 4 disconnects during use for seemingly no reason, with no word from Apple or Sony on a fix.

If you encounter this issue, theres no real resolution. You might want to try restarting your Apple TV, which you can do by pulling the plug , or by pressing and holding the Menu and Home buttons on the remote until the LED status light blinks on the front of the unit.

While playing, make sure you dont stray too far from the Apple TV and that the unit isnt hidden behind anything that might cause interference. If you suspect wireless interference from other Bluetooth devices, try relocating those devices to see whether the problem is resolved.

To connect the PS4 DualShock controller to your PC via a USB cable you just need a regular micro USB cable the same one that comes with many modern smartphones.

Once you’ve plugged the cable into both the DualShock controller and your PC, Windows should detect it, and you’ll be ready to play PC games using the PS4 controller.

    Next Up Pairing Your Controller

So youve got your PS4 ready to go, and the PS4 Remote Play app installed on your remote device. Now its time to pair your DualShock 4 controller, either with a Micro-USB cable on a PC or Mac, or via Bluetooth on any Remote Play compatible device with Bluetooth support .

You can pair the controller to your PC either with a Micro-USB cable or via Bluetooth. Connecting the controller is only the start of the process, due to how the DualShock 4 communicates with your PC. Most current Windows games use Microsoft’s XInput, an interface that processes Xbox 360 and Xbox One controller inputs. The DualShock 4 doesn’t send XInput commands, so a wrapper is needed to translate its inputs into something your PC can deal with easier. HOW TO SET UP PS4 REMOTE PLAY ON COMPUTER WITH NO LAG OR ...

The Sony PlayStation 4 still doesn’t have a dedicated remote control, but you can use your HDTV’s remote. Here’s how.

The Sony PlayStation 4 ;has come pretty far in the last year and a half. It’s a very capable media hub and Blu-ray player, and with the launch of PlayStation Vue, it can even be your cable box. And yet despite its multimedia prowess, Sony;still doesn’t make;a remote control. You have to browse your media services using;the DualShock 4 controller, or get a third-party remote with a USB receiver. Fortunately, there’s another way to control your PS4: with your HDTV remote.

The PS4 supports HDMI-CEC, which stands for Consumer Electronics Control. It means you can tell it to obey your HDTV remote’s commands. Because the PS4 doesn’t have an infrared sensor, it can’t accept remote commands directly, but instead gets instructions sent from your;HDTV through the HDMI cable. This isn’t enabled on your PS4 by default, and you need to tell your HDTV to send instructions to it as well, but it’s simple to set up.

  • From the main PS4 screen, go to Settings on the top row of icons.
  • Scroll down to System.
  • Check the box marked Enabled HDMI Device Link.
  • Once you’ve determined what your HDTV calls HDMI-CEC, you can look for it in the settings menu. Enable the feature,;and it will list any connected devices that support it. Your PS4 should show up on that list.

If you have headphones plugged into the 3.5mm headphone jack on the DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller and you hear no audio, or the audio from the headphones is very faint, make sure the headphone plug is pushed all the way in. Unplug and then firmly reinsert the headphones.

To route all audio output to headphones:

  • Go to Settings;>Devices;>Audio Devices.

  • Select Output to Headphones >All Audio.

  • Highlight the Volume Control option and press Right on the D-pad to make sure the controller’s volume is turned up.

  • If Output to Headphones is greyed out, that means the headphones are not detected by the controller.

How To Pair Your Playstation 4 Controller With A Wireless Connection

Sony has an official USB-A wireless adapter meant to bridge the gap between the DS4 controller and any PCs without Bluetooth capabilities. Unfortunately, it seems like the product has been discontinued, making it much harder to track down.

This Japanese version which by all means should work no matter where you are located costs about $60, making it the most expensive route. If your PC doesn’t have Bluetooth capabilities and you don’t want a long cable running between your PC and controller, though, it becomes quite attractive.

To use this adapter, just plug it into your PC and let the drivers install automatically. From there, the DS4 should operate just as though you have a wired or Bluetooth connection.

Pairing ps4 media remote to Samsung tv

As of January 2021, only the DualShock 4 controller designed for the PlayStation 4 is compatible with Apple devices like the Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad.

If you have a PlayStation 5, you cannot use the updated DualSense controller with your Apple TV.

Hopefully, Sony and Apple can resolve this incompatibility in future software updates. Keep in mind that the DualSense may require a firmware update via a PlayStation 5 console before it can work.

For now, youll have to use a DualShock 4 to play Apple TV titles with a gamepad.

    Functionality With Video Apps

Beyond using blu-rays, media files, and Netflix, the remote does indeed work on apps like YouTube, Hulu, and Crackle, but with a catch. The buttons don’t do what you would expect them to. This is less of an oversight on the remote’s part, and more of an issue with the apps themselves. They would need to be updated to support this new remote before it would work properly.

Something like Netflix is used to working with remotes, but YouTube, Hulu, and Crackle are new to the console world. If you’re buying this to use solely for those apps, you may want to reconsider, just a fair warning. I also tried playing games with it, but it won’t let you launch a game. Instead it asks you connect a DualShock 4.

In terms of the remote itself, it’s very lightweight. It doesn’t feel cheap at all, but it’s lighter than I expected. The remote itself is also very skinny, with extremely small buttons compared to my other remotes. This made it difficult to hit buttons during the programming process. There’s also no lights on the buttons like many remotes, so jumping between PS4, TV, and your sound system could be difficult in the dark.

Taking all of this into account, let’s break it down for a final verdict, shall we?

When HDMI-CEC is set up, you can use your remote’s navigation pad to flip through your PS4’s menus and browse videos on Hulu Plus, YouTube, PlayStation Vue, and other services. Depending on how well the service supports remote input, you can also control video playback using;your remote’s playback control buttons. It isn’t always a perfect system, but it sure beats using your game controller.
