How To Transfer Data From Ps4 To Ps4 Pro

Don't Miss

Start The Transfer And Wait

How To Transfer PS4 Hard Drive Data To PS4 Pro

Finally hit Start Transfer and wait for both machines to restart. Once the reboot is complete, you’ll see a progress bar on-screen notifying you of how the transfer is going.

Don’t panic if your console initially reports a hideously long transfer time. Mine reported a wait of 18 hours initially, but the whole process was complete in around an 80 minutes as originally estimated. I’ve seen other users report waits of nine hours for around 500GB of data.

I don’t know whether the use of a high speed Cat6 cable helped, but if in doubt use the best cable you’ve got to hand.

How To Transfer Data From Ps4 To Ps4 Pro Or New Ps4

A lot of PS4 owners are probably looking into or already have purchased a PS4 Pro to upgrade their gaming set up. The biggest issue with this move is having to re-download all your games and save data. However, since Sony released the PS4 Pro, they have introduced a better way to transfer your data between PS4 consoles without overloading their network as well as your own!

What Youll Need

  • Ethernet Cable
  • 2 PS4 consoles or any variety

This process will not transfer any unsynchronised trophy data, password information and any accounts that have never signed into PSN. So make sure to take that into account before getting rid of your old PS4.

Heres how to transfer the rest of your data:

  • Check the firmware version of both consoles. This feature was introduced in firmware 4.0 so long as both console are on this or higher, you should be good to go.
  • Connect both consoles to the internet and login to the PlayStation Network.
  • Your new PS4 should recognise that you already have a PS4 and ask if you want to transfer data from another PS4. Follow the prompts and it should eventually ask you to press and hold the power button the old PS4 to prepare to transfer the data.
  • You can now connect the consoles directly to each other with an Ethernet cable or with both of them having separate cables going into a router .
  • You can now choose what you want to transfer, and available space on the system.
  • You will then be asked to activate the new PS4 as the primary console.
  • If You No Longer Have Access To Your Original Ps4

Should you have sold your old PS4 or traded it in on a PS4 Pro – or just want to start over fresh – you can skip the data transfer process by hitting Cancel when asked if you want to move data. Games which have been downloaded from the PS Store or PS Plus, and any apps youve previously downloaded will be visible in your Library.

To load these onto the PS4 Pro, scroll down to the Purchased tab and you can select the items and download them one by one.

Those who are PS Plus members will need to upload saved game data to your online storage before upgrading to PS4 Pro. This way, when you sign in to PSN you will be able to access 10GB worth of game saves from cloud storage, download them and pick up where you left off.

Transfer PS4 Data to New PS4 Pro Without Problems or Bugs

Check the system software of both your current PlayStation 4 and the new professional PlayStation 4, and make sure both programs are updated to the newest version, at least version 4.0. As for your existing PS4, its system software should be upgraded to the latest version automatically last time when you are online. How To Transfer Data From Playstation 4 To Ps4 Pro

If you’re upgrading from a PS4 to PS4 Pro, you’ll need a data cable. Here’s how to get started.

The PS4 Pro is sure to be a very popular purchase this holiday season, with a fair few of them putting in an appearance under Christmas trees. However, if you are buying one as an upgrade to a PS4, you’re going to need to transfer your data. The process is easy, but it does require a network cable to perform.

The PlayStation.Blog posted a detailed guide on how to perform the data transfer, but I’ve summarized it here to show how easy it is:

  • Ensure your PS4 and PS4 Pro are running system software 4.0 or higher.
  • Connect both consoles to the Internet and your PS4 Pro to your TV.
  • Sign into the PlayStation Network on your PS4 Pro.
  • The PS4 Pro will ask if you want to start a transfer of data, confirm you do.
  • Press and hold the power button on your PS4 until it beeps.
  • Connect both PS4 consoles together using a network cable.
  • Select the types of data to be transferred from the on-screen list.
  • Allow the data to transfer, which could take a couple of hours.
  • Once complete, activate your PS4 Pro as the primary PS4.
  • Remove the LAN cable and you are done.
  • Checking your system software version before you start is easy to do, as is the process of updating it when connected to the Internet.

    Transferring Data From A Ps4 To A Ps4 Pro

How to transfer your data from PS4 to PS4 Pro ...

Connect your PS4 and PS4 Pro to the same WiFi network, then connect them together using an ethernet cable. Thats really about it. During the initial setup phase of your PS4 Pro, you should have been prompted to start this process assuming you prepared everything correctly, but if not, you can access it from the Settings menu.

Luckily, this transfer process is simple and painless. Now, the PS4 will transfer all of your saved data, captures like screenshots and videos, trophies if theyre synced, console settings, and even your game installations, to your shiny new PS4 Pro. Since the standard hard drive space is double the standard space of the original PS4 there is a lot more space, but only a little over 800GB is actually usable. Since the PS4 Pro still doesnt allow the use of external hard drives, youd have to upgrade it manually if you so desired.

One thing of note, however, is that it does take some time. Transferring just around 280GB of data from my original PS4 to the PS4 Pro took a little over an hour. Plan accordingly.

Make Sure Both Consoles Have The Proper Updates

Both consoles will require having the most updated version of the PS4 Software Update in order to transfer data. If your consoles already have the latest updates then you’re ahead of the curve, and can move on to transfering your data.

Here’s how to make sure your consoles are up to date. Thankfully, the same steps to check the updates will also automatically install them.

  • Select Settings from your PlayStation home menu.
  • Select System Software Update.
  • Check to see if an update is available. If there is, the update will automatically start.
  • It may take some time to update to the latest software, especially dependin gon your internet connection. Once you’re done, though, the next step is to move on to syncing your trophies or transfering data

    Use An External Storage Drive

The next option, which is my favorite, is to use an external hard drive. You may already have one connected to your PS4 for storing extra games. If not, it’s easy to format a drive for use on both consoles.

Plug your drive into the PS4, then navigate to Settings> Devices> USB Storage Devices.

Select your drive and then choose Format As Extended Storage. Select Next, then Format, and Confirm.

To start transferring your games, back out to the settings menu, select Storage, and when it’s done calculating, pick System Storage.

Follow the prompts to select the games you want to copy to your drive and select Move to Extended Storage.

Before you unplug the drive, go back to USB storage devices and select Stop Using This External Storage to safely unplug your drive.

Plug the drive into the PS5. Go to Settings> Storage> External Storage> Games and Apps. You’ll be able to see the games you just moved over.

Now you have a choice: Either move your PS4 games onto your PS5 or you can leave them on the extended storage drive.

The PS5 lets you play your PS4 games right from the external drive, so that’s where i’m planning to keep them. This will save space on your PS5’s too-small internal drive for PS5 games, which can’t be played from the external storage drive.

But once those bugs get worked out, and until we get the option to upgrade the internal drives on the PS5, I think storing all the PS4 games on the external drive is a great solution.

  • Connect to the Internet and sign into PSN – Turn both consoles on, make sure both are online, and sign into the PSN with both. Either Wi-Fi or LAN is fine.
