The PS5 looks to fall short compared to the Xbox Series X regarding technical specifications. In terms of clock speeds, the Xbox Ones is 3.8GHz, whereas the PS5s is 3.5GHz. Both systems feature AMD graphics processors, with the Xbox generating 12 teraflops of power and the PS5s 10.28 teraflops.

Both consoles employ solid-state drives instead of traditional hard disk drives, with Microsofts providing a terabyte of storage compared to the PS5s 825GB. However, the PS5s storage is built and integrated in such a manner that it is so quick that it effectively enhances total console performance.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Design

For the most part, whether you like a consoles design comes down to personal preference. But my personal preference is that I cannot stand how the PS5 looks. Not only is the system comically large its also a pain to switch from vertical to horizontal configuration, and the standard version sports an ugly, asymmetrical design.

The front panel is prone to fingerprints the power and disc eject buttons are indistinguishable. Its rare that I recommend you hold off on a console purchase simply to wait for the prettier redesign, but you should very strongly consider doing that with the PS5.

The Xbox Series X, on the other hand, is still pretty bulky, but manages its space much better. Rather than looking like an oversized router, the Xbox Series X is a sleek black box that looks, at least in its vertical form, kind of like a small tower PC . It has a clearly defined power button, as well as a pairing button to make wireless connections painless.

The only big advantage the PS5 has over the Xbox Series X is the presence of a USB-C port which is a big deal, especially as more accessories get USB-C adapters. But even if the Xbox Series X design is much more conservative, its also much more sensible overall.

Using their fast storage access, the Xbox Series X and Series S allow you to suspend almost any game by creating a snapshot of it in system memory. You can then start another game, watch a movie, or even turn off and completely unplug your console. The next time you start the game in question, itll pick up exactly where you left off. Its a lot like switching between open apps on a smartphone, and you can do it with several games at once. Games already boot up faster on the new consoles because of their storage speed, and if youre playing more than one thing, switching between games using quick resume saves a lot of time and frustration because you skip any menus and save/load screens that you might otherwise be forced to navigate. And in the few months weve been using the console, every time we boot up a game for the first time in weeks only to load up exactly where we left off in seconds is a delightful experience.

Initially, Quick Resume support was somewhat spotty, with several games encountering problems with the feature but recent patches have improved overall stability, though there are still occasional, unavoidable issues. For titles like the 2018 remaster of Dark Souls, which uses an always online server system, Quick Resume just about always results in a server disconnect, which will boot you to the title screen .

Some Things Haven’t Changed

Despite much saber rattling, most existing Sony PlayStation and Xbox users will likely to stick to the machine and exclusive games with which they are familiar if they opt to upgrade. And after a decade of competition, the two consoles have shared ideas and flaws between them. Therefore, the new offerings are a more of a level playing field than the manufacturers want you to think.

For example, each company’s early generations started out as singular, closed devices, and later opened up to media content apps and social media services. Expect that to continue with the new devices, with improved content sharing features to make gaming more of a social and spectator experience. But there are some things that you won’t see in the brochures.

Pro Ps: Playstation Gives You More Granular Control Over Data

Its baffling that this is something worth celebrating on a gaming console. Believe it or not, but only Sony lets users get a clear picture of what is taking up space on their hard drives. Obviously, both machines give you some sense of how much space you have available, but only PlayStation surfaces that data in a clear list of applications. Thats a hugely practical feature! If you need to clear out space for a brand new game, its way easier to delete one massive install than a batch of smaller ones. On Xbox One you need to click each game and individually check how much space they are using its a chore. Its not a sexy feature, its a meat and potatoes one something you would expect to have.

Ps4 Vs Xbox One: The Conclusion

If we’re being totally fair, the Xbox One and the PS4 are both thrilling consoles that deserves your time and energy. That said, it’s hard to deny that the PS4 has a library that is simply unmatched by the Xbox One, including massive hits like God of War and The Last of Us Remastered, games that shook the gaming world to the point that they are still talked about today.

PlayStation VR, another feature from Sony, is also huge and is slowly, but surely, earning more than its fair share of audience at a rate that the Xbox One seems to be struggling behind in.

Th,is, of course, does not make the Xbox One a bad console. It’s got cheaper deals, backwards compatibility and it has support from accessories like Alexa, but unfortunately the PS4 still manages to pull ahead.

Microsoft doesnt exactly condone game sharing, but they havent condemned it either. On Xbox, it is very easy to give a friend access to your game collection while youre not using it. On PlayStation, you need to use the license owner’s account to play games purchased on it, which means if you ever do decide to buy that game youll have to start from square one.
