Best Buy have knocked $101 from the price of the PlayStation 4 Pro – and reduced prices on games AND a 65-inch 4K HDR TV

Thinking of picking up a PlayStation 4 Pro as a Christmas present or maybe even as a treat for yourself?

Well, now could be the ideal time to take the plunge as Best Buy have slashed $101 off the consoles list price reducing it from $399.99 to $298.99. Or you can pick up the Pro with for exactly the same price!

The console is a step up from the original PS4, with Sony’s latest model able to get you gaming in eye-popping and glorious 4K, with many PS4 games enhanced for 4K TVs.

And talking of TVs, if you’re in the market for a 4K HDR TV, Best Buy have you covered as theyve taken a whopping $230 from this TCL 65-inch TV. It was $729.99 and it could be yours for $499.99 right now.

Ps: Is It Worth Buying In 2021

PS4 may have been replaced numerically by the PS5, but for the next few years at least you can expect Sonys flagship home consoles to stand side-by-side. While the PS4 is entering its eighth year on the market, its gigantic install base and enormous software library makes it a very relevant purchase in 2021 and potentially beyond.

The system software is still fully functional, and its a cost-effective console with some very low-priced titles. Even more importantly, buying in now is not a problem, as the PS5 is fully backwards compatible and many new games offer free PS4 to PS5 upgrades. This means that when you are, eventually, ready to upgrade, youll be able to bring much of your software with you.

Cross-platform play in major franchises like Call of Duty means that you wont be isolated, and you can even form parties with your friends regardless of which console theyre playing on. Wed steer you away from the PS4 Pro at this point, as the PS5 is a much better option considering the price differential. But if youre still playing on a 1080p television and looking for a cost-effective games console in 2021, the PS4 is an outstanding option.

Ps4 Stock: Availability And Prices

Much like the PS5, it’s hard to come by a PS4 or PS4 Pro right now. Everyone has been buying them up, so you’ll find that many retailers are out of stock, selling used products, or have them priced ridiculously high. If it’s out of stock, some places like Walmart allow you to set up stock alerts to notify when more become available. Others like Amazon sell from third-party sellers, and you’ll need to carefully check their reviews to make sure they’re legitimate. Another option is buying a used or refurbished PS4 Pro from stores like GameStop. As always, be careful when you’re purchasing used products and read up on a retailer’s return policies along with any warranties you receive.

We wouldn’t recommend paying more than $400 or $450 for a PS4 Pro at the moment, and you should only spend around $300 for a regular PS4 if you find one. They simply aren’t worth the increased prices from people trying to capitalize on the market.

No matter your region, the PS4 Pro will feature a 1TB hard drive, while the PS4 Slim sports either 500GB or 1TB.

Should You Buy A Ps4 In 2021

Looking at all these considerations, is the PS4 worth buying right now? It depends on your situation.

If you want to play a lot of titles that are available on PS4 and don’t have another game console, then the PS4 is still a good buy. The PS4 Pro is more future-proofed, but since its price is close to a PS5, we’d recommend sticking to a PS4 Slim. If you do buy a PS4, consider buying a second-hand model from a reputable seller to bring the cost down.

With a PS4, you can still enjoy cross-play with PS5 players in many games. Plus, you can take most of your games with you when you upgrade to a PS5 .

If you see yourself buying a PS5 in the next year, we’d recommend waiting for that instead. It doesn’t make much sense to spend $300 on a PS4 now, only to spend $500 on a PS5 shortly after. In the meantime, you might consider trying a few games using PS Now on your PC.

If you’re not interested in PlayStation exclusives at all, consider a Nintendo Switch instead. That system is four years old, but it offers a lot for $300. You get a system that you can play at home or on the go with a wide variety of first-party Nintendo titles, plus third-party ports and indie games.

The Switch will likely receive support for longer than the PS4 just keep in mind that it’s not as powerful. As a result, cross-platform games like Doom Eternal and Overwatch are not as smooth on Switch.

What You Will Need

Can I Buy Ps4 On Aliexpress

First, lets break down what you need to prepare yourself for this tutorial.

To begin with, the steps below will create a new Sony account. Youll then log into this account on your PS4. As such, if other people use your PS4, be ready to explain what the strange new account is for!

Youll also need a PlayStation Network gift card in the currency of the region you want to buy in. For example, if youre purchasing from Japan, buy a gift card in Yen to cover the cost of your game. We cant add a payment method to the account well make, as these will pass along a billing address that will reveal that youre from another country. Fortunately, stores such as Play Asia can email you foreign gift cards, which work perfectly fine on the account youll make.

Finally, you do not need a VPN fort this. At no point do you need to fool the system to seem as if you are connecting from another country, so a VPN isnt required.

How Much Is A Used Ps4 Worth

The PS4 might be an older system, but its still incredibly popular. That being said, new generations of game consoles come out regularly. If youre going to sell, you should sell soon, before the system becomes obsolete or completely floods the used market and drives the prices down.

So, lets talk about money. As a rule of thumb, a used PlayStation 4 generally sells for about 50-55% of its retail price. An average Playstation 4 with a single controller, a 500GB hard drive, and cords currently costs $299 brand new.

Right now, depending on the model and condition, your used console would likely sell for around $47.00 to $196.00. However, this amount will continue to drop as more recent models debut, similar to what happened when the PS5 came on the scene.

Ps4 Pro Faq: Quick Questions Answered

Whats the difference between the PS4 and the PS4 Pro? On one hand, theres isnt much difference. Both consoles allow you to play the same games, use the same peripherals, and give you access to the same PlayStation Store but when it comes to the look and feel of the games you play, you’re getting a completely different experience.

The PS4 Pro is Sonys newer, more premium console. It plays games in a higher resolution and often in High Dynamic Range . It’s a little more expensive than the regular PS4 was, but that’s because it uses slightly different hardware to get better results in terms of performance. Check out our guide to the main differences between the PS4 Pro vs PS4 for more.

Is the PS4 Pro true 4K? Yes, but games will need to receive a PS4 Pro patch to enable these more detailed resolutions. We only point that last part out because it’s up to game developers themselves to issue those patches and ultimately utilize the more powerful hardware. No PS4 Pro mode, no PS4 Pro performance.

Now, it’s worth noting that should you want to see what games in 4K HDR look like, you’re going to need a 4K HDR TV – your old 1080p screen probably won’t see a benefit outside of a few extra frames.

What games are native 4K on PS4 Pro? There are loads, including Red Dead Redemption 2, Marvels Spider-Man and No Mans Sky. You can check out our full guide to the best PS4 Pro games to see them all.

Ps: How Much Should You Pay In 2021

The one disappointment of the PS4 in 2021 is that, at the time of writing, Sony has not really adjusted the price of the device. That means that, officially, youre still looking at a price point of around £259.99/$299.99 for a brand new unit. Many retailers will offer software bundles these days, and hard drive space can vary obviously youll want to go for the most affordable option with the largest storage space available.

PS4 Pro consoles will cost you more well detail the differences below but these are getting scarce as Sony reduces the number of units it manufactures the supercharged system has already been discontinued in Japan, for example. You may be better off going the pre-owned route if this is the model you want.

If youre shopping on an auction site like eBay, then generally you should be looking to pay between £150 and £250 in the UK and between $200 and $300 in the United States for a standard PS4, depending on the condition of the device and any bundled extras. PS4 Pro consoles cost a little more, and its worth remembering that there are special edition models which can carry premium price points, like the 20th Anniversary Edition which fetches fees of up to $2,000.

Logging Into Your Ps4 With The New Account

should I buy a ps4

Now that you have a new foreign account, you can make purchases. However, take some time to set up your PS4 so it can receive the games you buy.

Before you do anything, boot up your PS4 and go to Settings at the top, then Account Management on your primary account. Go to Activate as Your Primary PS4.

Make sure this is active. If it is, all the games your foreign account purchases will also show up on your primary accounts game list. This allows you to earn achievements and talk to friends on your main account instead of the dummy one.

Back out to the Settings menu, go to Login Settings, User Management, then Create User.

After clicking through the menus, the PS4 will ask you for login information. Log in to your foreign account, then click through the menus until youre back on the main screen. When you want to swap accounts, hold down the PlayStation button on your controller, go to Power, then Switch User.

Ps: Are There Any Upcoming Games

In a word: yes. If youve never owned a PS4 before, then youll have access to a treasure trove of essential titles that will keep you occupied for years to come, but theres a large list of upcoming software on the horizon as well. This scales everything from smaller-scale indie titles, cross-platform multiformat releases, and even major exclusives like Horizon Forbidden West.

For a full rundown of everything coming out, refer to our New PS4 Game Release Dates in 2021 guide. Some highlights, however, include Persona 5 Strikers, NieR Replicant, Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Gotham Knights, and Hogwarts Legacy. There will almost certainly be much more announced over the coming year, however, while we anticipate blockbuster brands like Call of Duty and Assassins Creed to continue supporting the PS4s substantial install base for the foreseeable future.

Sony Playstation 4 Pro Review: Should You Buy A Ps4 Pro It’s Complicated

Closing in on 50 million units sold, it’s safe to say Sony’s PlayStation 4 has been a huge success, significantly outpacing its closest competition, Microsoft’s Xbox One.

The Good

The Bad

The Bottom Line

But just three years since its debut, Sony has released a hardware step-up model of the PS4, aptly called the PlayStation 4 Pro. As you can guess by the name, this isn’t the PlayStation 5. It’s fully compatible with all of the existing games, apps and nearly all the PS4 accessories currently on the market . The new model hit stores on November 10 for $399 in the US, £349 in the UK and AU$559 in Australia.

But the PS4 Pro promises to deliver better, smoother graphics than its predecessor. You’ll only get that graphical upgrade on games with a free downloadable software patch installed. The most noticeable improvements will also likely require TVs with support for 4K resolutions and HDR, the high contrast mode that can offer bright whites and more gradated blacks.

The PlayStation 4 Pro is being labeled as a step-up model, and is not a PlayStation 5.

So what, exactly, does that mean in terms of a buying recommendation? The short answer is this:

Update, November 21, 2016: Added more impressions of PS4 Pro games and ratings, and acknowledgment that some games have been found to run worse in their enhanced Pro versions.

There just aren’t enough games that take advantage of the PS4 Pro’s specs, yet.

Ps4 Pro: Multiplayer And Online

With your PS4 Pro connected to the internet, you can open up the console’s full potential. You can buy more games digitally through the PlayStation Store, saving them on your spacious 1TB hard drive, or with a PS Plus subscription, play online multiplayer, get two free games a month, cloud storage for your save files and other benefits.

There’s also PS Now, the PlayStation game streaming service which, in return for a $10 monthly subscription, allows you to play a variety of games from the PS2, PS3 and PS4 libraries. Since it’s a streaming service, you can also play these games on your PC too, and save your games online so you can swap between devices.

The subscriptions are expensive, 12 months of either costing $60, but it’s unfortunately the average rate for these services, with Xbox offering more but for double the price each month, while Nintendo’s Switch Online is far cheaper but offers fewer goodies.

The PlayStation 5 may have dropped, but getting your hands on the device is still as difficult as it was on launch day. As such, you shouldn’t abandon your faithful PlayStation 4. Right now, the device has one of the best catalogues in console history. You should definitely take advantage of that with a new PS4 game or two.

There’s a rich library of AAA games exclusive to the PS4: Spider-Man, Bloodborne, The Last of Us Part 2 and God of War, to name a few. And then, of course, there are the cross-platform titles and indie games. It’s an embarrassment of riches.

So, you’re ready to start gaming. However, before you buy, consider the following:

With those caveats in place, on to the games.

Ps4 Pro: Game Library

From 2017, every PlayStation 4 game has been Pro-enabled. That means these titles, identifiable by a “PS4 Pro Enhanced” badge on the box, will play in 3840 x 2160 and HDR on 4K TVs and could get smoother frame rates on 1080p sets. Sony has patched several older fan favorites, like The Last of Us, Uncharted 4, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Shadow of Mordor, and Infamous: First Light to work in 4K too.

While PS5 titles will not look their best on the older console, some will still be available on the PS4 Pro, with a few offering transferrable save games should you decide to upgrade. It’s worth checking which games those are in case you could afford to save money by playing a new release on an older platform.

However in terms of titles, you get the same mix of multi-platform and exclusive games that the PS4 gets. If you’re looking to get into the PlayStation library of games, then the PS4 Pro is an expensive way to go about it, unless you have the hardware to make the most of the 4K enhancements.
