Some high-profile examples of PS4 remasters you’ll be able to play on PS5 include The Last of Us Remastered and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. Many of the very best PS3 games got re-released on the PS4, so you should be able to find a way to revisit some of your favourites. It’s worth noting that PS3 Blu-ray discs and PS3 PS Store purchases will not be compatible with the PS5, however.

Please note that the ability to transfer game saves between a PS4 version and a PS5 version of the same game is a developer decision, and will vary title by title for cross-generational games.

Metal Gear Solid : Snake Eater
For most of its existence, the Metal Gear Solid series was closely associated with PlayStation. Solid Snake, the series’ main protagonist, was even considered by many to be one of the PlayStation’s main ‘mascots’. The excellent stealth-action titles would find a home on early Sony consoles, but Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is arguably the most beloved of the bunch.
Set before the events of the original Metal Gear titles, Snake Eater follows the exploits of Naked Snake in the 1960s as he journeys across the Soviet jungle, attempting to rescue a Russian war criminal without causing an international incident. This is one of the most well-crafted, cinematic, and engaging PS2 titles ever, and it’s a must-play for almost any video games fan.

Backward compatibility with previous console games is one of the key selling points of any new console.
New consoles are almost always not cheap and the backward compatibility features give potential next-gen console buyers extra value for the money they spend.
Thats why the question of whether the PS5 is backward compatible with PS3 and PS4 games has been asked by many PlayStation gamers.
To answer it, just like with the PS2, you can only play digital PS3 games on the PS5 because the PS5 does not support PS3 game discs.
The digital PS3 games are also available on PlayStation Now.
Sony did a much better job of making PlayStation 4 games compatible with the PS5.
Working with PS game publishers and developers, Sony has made most PS4 games playable on the PS5.
Currently, over 4,000 PS4 game disc and digital titles can be seamlessly played on the PS5.
On its website, Sony only lists a few game titles that are exclusive to the PS4. These titles are:
- Just Deal With It!
- Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One
- Robinson: The Journey
- TT Isle of Man Ride on the Edge 2
- Hitman Go: Definitive Edition
This PS4 only list has been on the website for several months now and hasnt grown,
So, we can assume the PS5 will support the remaining PS4 titles.
As with the PS2 games playable on the PS5, PS3 and PS4 games will have higher frame rates and resolution when played on the PS5 because of the next-gen consoles improved tech.
Looking Forward To Backward Compatibility
What is BC? It is a term used in the gaming industry, predominantly when it comes to the most popular consoles Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox. It denotes whether the newest consoles will be able to run games made for the previous generations, or not.
Sony, in particular, ran into heavy criticism during their announcement of the PS4 years ago. That was because the then-new console wouldnt allow owners to play PS3, PS2, or PS1 games on it.
Pictured above is the PS logo confirmed by Sony.
It would seem that Sony learned from their mistakes and have claimed that cross-gen and backward compatibility have received more focus and care this time around. As it stands, Sony confirmed that the newest console would support at least PlayStation 4 games. That would allow players who arent able to upgrade right away to keep playing with their friends who are. It will come as great news to those who may be intimidated by the price tag.
As for the consoles potential ability to run PS3 games or even older titles, there have been no official mentions so far. If the console launches with support only for PS4 games, then Sonys PS Now service will remain the only option to play titles from the pre-PS4 times. As for what the future will reveal, we must stay patient.

Grand Theft Auto Trilogy
In many ways, Rockstar Games dominated the PlayStation 2 library. Its most popular games on the console are undoubtedly the Grand Theft Auto trilogy of games, consisting of the landmark Grand Theft Auto 3, its acclaimed sequel Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and what remains one of the absolute best open world video games of all time, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. All three games are available to play on PS4 and PS5, with higher resolution visuals, generally better performance, and PlayStation trophy support.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is perhaps the most notable part of the lineup. As some may recall, a version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was released for PS3 and Xbox 360, and was at the time one of the only ways to experience the game in “HD.” However, it was based on the mobile port of the game, which meant that it was missing some important features, including San Andreas‘ popular local co-op mode. So this version is really the best way to experience Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on new consoles.

Disgaea: Hour Of Darkness
The first entry in the long-running Disgaea series, Hour of Darkness is a game thats been somewhat forgotten by many over the years. Though fans of the series are obviously familiar with the title, Hour of Darkness could benefit from backwards compatibility in the next gen.
A solid tactical RPG, with deep gameplay and a memorable cast of characters, Hour of Darkness is a forgotten classic that many JRPG fans would love to get running on their PS5s if only to relive some great old memories.

Third party games will be available too – including access to a “curated” version of the Ubisoft+ subscription.
What follows is the currently available PlayStation Plus Premium games list – with notable games from other regions listed and noted as such. New Extra / Premium games will be available in the middle of the month, while Essential tier games available on the first Tuesday of the month.
