Everyone else is better off spending the extra $100 upfront and getting the PlayStation 5 with a disc drive. This allows you to play PS4 backward compatible games on disk, get the new PS5 versions of many games you bought on disc for the PS4, swap games and watch Ultra HD Blu-ray discs.

What Does It Do
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is designed to offer a top-end flagship experience. Be aware though, not every manufacturer will use each of the features below.
A lot of the new features we talk about are now are an option for manufacturers to implement, but not every phone maker in 2022 will decide to introduce each of the below features. So dont expect these features to be guaranteed in your smartphone when you unpackage it in 2022.
Playstation Plus And Playstation Now
If youre at all interested in playing multiplayer games on the PlayStation 5, a subscription to PlayStation Plus remains indispensable. Though Plus offers access to at least two free games per month, the quality of those games is unpredictable. However, Sony is sweetening the pot for early adopters of its new console: PS5 PS+ subscribers will receive access to the PlayStation Plus Collection, which consists of more than a dozen highly rated older PlayStation 4 titles, many of which have enhanced performance on the PS5.
If you get a PS5 Digital Edition without the disc drive, or if you never had a PS4 and want to explore all the currently available games at a low price, PlayStation Now, Sonys on-demand game-subscription service, might make sense for you. PS Now provides streaming access to a collection of PlayStation titles, including a number of PS3 titles , and it offers downloadable access to a number of PlayStation 4 games that will also be playable on the PS5. Sony doesnt commit to timely releases of some major games to PS Now the way Microsoft commits to that on its equivalent service, Game Pass. But the PS Now library still offers access to hundreds of games. Of course, you lose access to them if you cancel your subscription.

Lets get the hardcore numbers out of the way first. How much do the two systems cost?
If you go for the standard PS5, the one that still eats up shiny Blu-ray discs for breakfast, it’ll cost you $499.99 / £449.99 / AU$749.95.
ThePlayStation 5 Digital Edition comes in at $399.99 / £359.99 / AU$599.95.
Both versions of the console are available worldwide, with the PS5 releasing on November 12 in select territories, and November 19 for the rest of the world.
Theres a significant saving of $100 / £90 to be made if you go the all-digital route, then. But there are a few things to consider here.
Firstly, youll be losing out on the console doubling up as a 4K Blu-ray disc player, which is a nice added bonus for home cinema fans. Considering standalone 4K Blu-ray players cost several hundred dollars and/or pounds themselves, thats a considerable chunk of cash saved.
Secondly, those with a disc drive will be able to take advantage of being able to swap, loan, borrow, and trade physical disc-based games with their friends and exchange stores. Over the course of a consoles lifespan, that could add up to considerable second-hand savings. So what you may save now with the digital console may cost you over the course of a few years, since you’ll be paying whatever prices Sony and game publishers decide to set. Thats before taking into consideration the actual joy of owning a physical thing.
Which Phones Will Use The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1
A lot of phones are likely to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and many of them have already been rumored. Three devices have been confirmed so far, and theyre the Xiaomi 12, a new Motorola Edge handset and Oppos upcoming flagship.
The Xiaomi 12 is the first phone that will feature the chipset, while we expect that new Oppo phone to be the rumored Find X4 series. The new Motorola Edge is a touch more complicated, and we have reason to believe itll be a China-only device.
Rumored handset include the Samsung Galaxy S22 range, which will reportedly use this chipset in either most or all parts of the world. Thats a change, as typically Samsung splits its Galaxy S models between the latest Snapdragon and the latest Exynos.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 range is likely to land in February, but before that we could see the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in the Xiaomi 12 in December .
Leaks also suggest that the Huawei P60 range could use this chipset. Thats slightly surprising as Huawei usually makes its own, but the US trade ban has complicated things there. Finally, theres also evidence of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 being used in at least one Vivo phone.
Beyond the leaks and rumors, we also expect the OnePlus 10 and Sony Xperia 1 IV to use this chipset, based on past form, as probably will the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, and many other phones.
Basically, if you buy a high-end Android smartphone in 2022, theres a good chance the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will be at its heart.

If youre a fan of Android phones then the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is a big deal, as this upcoming chipset will almost certainly power many of the best Android phones of 2022.
The latest innovation from Qualcomm is now here after the company introduced its new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 platform at its annual Tech Summit event. This is the new chipset that we expect to see powering a lot of the top-end phones in 2022 and beyond.
Flights and accommodation for this launch event were funded by Qualcomm, but the views reflect the writers own honest opinion.
Its the sequel to the Snapdragon 888 that was introduced in 2020 and featured on smartphones like the Galaxy S21, OnePlus 9 Pro, Oppo Find X3 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 11.
That means well likely see it included in the next iterations of those phones, so we expect manufacturers like Samsung, Oppo, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Motorola, Realme and many more to include this chipset in their absolute best smartphones.
This is top-end power, so its reserved for the most expensive devices. If youre a smartphone fan, youve likely noticed that the new chipset also has a new naming structure, too. We expected this to be called the Snapdragon 898, but Qualcomm moved to what it believes is a more simplified naming structure.

Its not unusual for consoles to get slimmer versions as time goes on, as we literally had the PS4 Slim last generation, but those are usually major redesigns with significant weight and size drops. That is definitely not what this is, and yet in a piece of electronics that small, losing 7.5% of its total weight for seemingly no reason is sort of a mystery that Im curious to hear an answer to.
Well see if Sony issues any comment on this, but we may just have to wait until these new model revisions are out in the wild so they can be weighed and dissected, because you know someone is going to do that.
As for a true revision, if were getting one, it probably wouldnt be for a few years yet. Sony cannot even make enough of the current two models to keep up with anything approaching the current demand, and that trend seems destined to continue for a long while to come.

Another big raise in the alternative protein space: Future Farm, a Brazilian-based foodtech startup that touts plant-based meat substitutes with a true meat-like texture, has closed a $58 million Series C funding round, co-led by BTG, as it gears up for rapid growth in the US and Europe.

Future Farms current product range which is pretty self-explanatory in branding terms, featuring the likes of Future Mince, Future Burger and Future Sausage is available in 24 countries via 10,000 points of sale but the LatAm startup is keen to step that up.
It launched products into the UK market at the start of last year and touts strong growth in Europe where it says its annual growth rate is 960%.
Whatever happens with lab-grown meat, the future of food will certainly need to involve everyone eating a lot more plants.

Both of the PlayStation 5 consoles feature the same processor, RAM, storage, and performance. When you play games on the PS5 or PS5 Digital Edition, you will see the same graphics and experience the same speed and loading times.

The Adreno GPU is 30% faster than the last-gen chipset, while the Vulkan is 60% faster. That essentially means youll be getting into your games quicker, and they should run better than your previous smartphones.
A new feature called Adreno Frame Motion Engine will allow you to double the frame rate in the games youre playing while maintaining the same power levels. Qualcomm also confirmed the feature would allow you to keep playing at the same frame rate, but youd be using half the power.
There are further gaming features to be introduced on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, but we havent heard about them in full yet. Expect to see more in this article at a later date.

That extra cash can get you an extra game or two, a PlayStation Plus subscription or an extra DualSense controller for multiplayer game nights.
You dont mind downloading all of your games As its name suggests, the PS5 Digital Edition works only with digital media. So if youre cool with downloading all of your games and streaming all of your movies, youll be just fine with this one. And if most of your back catalog of PS4 games is digital, youll be able to simply redownload those games on your PS5. Going digital is good for folks who want minimal clutter, and since modern games take up hard drive space even if youre using a disc, youre not going to save any storage by going with the disc model.
You want the sleekest PS5The PS5 is a gigantic console no matter which version you get, but the PS5 Digital Editions lack of a disc drive gives it a sleeker, more symmetrical design than the disc model. The Digital Model is about a half inch thinner than its disc-based counterpart at 3.6 versus 4.1 inches, which just might mean the difference between whether or not you can cram it in your entertainment center.
