How To Charge Your Ps4 Controller
The controllers internal battery will charge while it is connected to the PS4. If the controller remains connected while your PS4 is in rest mode, it will continue charging, and the light on top will turn yellow. The light will also flash yellow when your controller is running low on power, and you should see an on-screen message telling you to plug it in.
When charged, the light bar on the top of the controller will glow different colors depending on which player the controller is assigned to player 1 is blue, player 2 is red, player 3 is green, and player 4 is pink.
The Easier Way: Steam
If your favorite games are on Steam, they’ll work with the DualShock 4 with a quick tweak.
Go to the Settings menu in Steam .
Select the Controller menu.
Check the box marked “PlayStation Configuration Support.”
Connect the DualShock 4 to your PC.
Steam’s DualShock 4 compatibility is pretty hit-or-miss, and this technique obviously won’t work with non-Steam games. As a result, you may have better luck simply using DS4Windows.
Reset The Dualshock 4 Wireless Controller
Turn off and unplug your PS4.
Locate the small reset button on the back of the controller near the L2 shoulder button.
Use a small tool to push the button inside the tiny hole. Hold the button down for roughly 3-5 seconds.
Connect the controller to the PS4 using a USB cable and press the PS button.
If the light bar turns blue, the controller has paired.
If the controller is unresponsive or is able to connect to a different USB port or another system, please visit the Fix & Replace diagnostic tool to check if your hardware is eligible for an under-warranty repair.

What Do I Need
PS Remote Play is a feature available on all PS4 and PS5 consoles. All you need is:
- Your PS5 or PS5 Digital Edition, PS4 or PS4 Pro2 connected to a broadband network.
- A compatible device also connected to your network.
- The free PS Remote Play app.
- A DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller or DualSense controller3.
- At least 5Mbps internet – we recommend at least 15Mbps for a better experience. If you choose to use a mobile data connection to access Remote Play features, this will use your mobile data allowance. If you exceed your mobile data allowance, you may be charged by your mobile provider.
- A compatible PlayStation game1.
Troubleshooting: Ps4 Wireless Connectivity Problems
If your controller wont turn on when you hit the PS button, plug it into the PS4 to make sure it has a charge. If the light bar doesn’t glow, it could be a problem with your USB cable, or the controller’s internal battery could be damaged. If you have an extra cable handy, try using that instead to eliminate the first possibility.
If the controller can’t connect to the console wirelessly even though it is charged, then the problem lies with either your console or your controller’s Bluetooth connectivity. If your other PS4 controllers are working wirelessly, the faulty controller is to blame. Nonetheless, you can continue playing with the controller connected to the console via a USB.
If you’re unable to pair a PS4 controller with your console, try resetting it.

The Ps4 Experts Hands
The Officially Licensed PS4 Media Remote came in the mail for me, and now that I’ve had some time to utilize it, it’s time to find out if this Sony-approved third-party solution is the best option for those of you out there that are tired of wasting battery power on your DualShock 4 while watching a movie or TV show.
For starters, the packaging is very simple. It comes in the iconic blue box that all of the Sony-approved accessories come in. Like many of those others, the remote isn’t made by Sony. Instead it was developed by PDP and given the seal of approval by the big guys and gals at PlayStation
Taking it out of the box, you get an instruction manual, and the remote. That’s about it, no batteries included. It uses two AAA-batteries, which I was forced to steal from one of my other remotes. When it comes to accessories like a remote, I feel like it’s common courtesy to provide batteries, especially if they’re uncommon ones. AA’s I can forgive because those are everywhere, but AAA’s? Come on!

How To Resync Your Ps4 Controller
On the back of your controller, find the tiny hole next to the L2 button.
This method only works if you’re using a DualShock 4 controller. If you have a third-party controller like the Razer Raiju or Scuf Vantage, or some other third-party controller, they may not have the same reset button but should have their own methods of being reset. It’s also important to note that sometimes, the DualShock 4 doesn’t sync up correctly because it uses a Bluetooth connection, and it could be attempting to connect to multiple devices, like your phone if you’ve ever used PS4 Remote Play.
If you’re experiencing other common problems with your controller, like not holding a charge, there are easy fixes to these issues. If none of those work, you may need to spring for a new controller entirely.
Using The Wireless Controller
Press the PS button on the controller, and then select a user.
- The first time you use a controller, you’ll need to pair it with your PS4 system.
- Up to four controllers can be used at the same time. When you press the PS button, the light bar will glow in a uniquely assigned color. The color that is assigned depends on the order in which each user presses the PS button. The first controller to connect is blue, the second is red, the third is green, and the fourth is pink.

What If It Didnt Work
Occasionally, the remote will have trouble finding the code for your device. If this is the case, just turn the device back on. Using the manufacturers code , you can manually program the remote. Simply hold the gray device key, and enter the first code on the list I will provide After that, just release the button. With the remote pointed at the device, release the gray key. If this does not work, just try the next code. Some TVs have ten codes, some have only one, depending on rarity and how new they are.

Next Up Pairing Your Controller
So youve got your PS4 ready to go, and the PS4 Remote Play app installed on your remote device. Now its time to pair your DualShock 4 controller, either with a Micro-USB cable on a PC or Mac, or via Bluetooth on any Remote Play compatible device with Bluetooth support .
You can pair the controller to your PC either with a Micro-USB cable or via Bluetooth. First, find your PCs Bluetooth settings by heading to Start > Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices. Hold both the Share and PS button for four seconds until the controllers light bar starts to flash. On your PC, select the plus to add a new Bluetooth device.
On your Mac, you can pair via Bluetooth, but youll need to be running the latest version of macOS Catalina, released earlier this week . Put your controller in pairing mode, visit the System Preferences app on your Mac, hit the Bluetooth icon, and add your device.
iOS and Android devices can pair to your DualShock 4 the same way they pair with any traditional Bluetooth device. But youll need to be running Android 10, iOS 13, or iPadOS 13 to actually use the controller instead of the inferior on-screen controls.
Control Your Ps5 Console
- Control your PS4 console from your PS Vita system*
- Control your PS4 console from your PS TV system*
- With the app, you can remotely control your PS4 console with a PlayStation®Vita system or PlayStation®TV system. Find out more about how to set up and use Remote Play on your systems in the PS Vita Userâs Guide or the PS TV Userâs Guide.

How To Connect Your Ps4 Controller Via Bluetooth
If you followed the Bluetooth installation steps above, you should be able to use your controller wirelessly. Luckily, you don’t have to pair your controller every time you want to use it. As long as you don’t unplug the adapter, it will save its last connection, so you can just tap your controller’s central PlayStation button to reconnect it.
The official Sony DualShock 4 USB wireless adapter is the simplest Bluetooth option. You may have to hunt for it or spend a little more than you would on a standard Bluetooth dongle, but it’s worth it for its out-of-the-box functionality.
Using Your Tv’s Remote
The PS4 supports the HDMI-CEC format. It will effectively obey your HDTV remote’s commands via an HDMI cable if your television supports this feature.
To enable this feature, you need to first turn on the options on both your PS4 and your TV set.
On your TV, the description varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. It should be found somewhere in your set’s setup menu.
Here are some common names for the feature:
- Sony: Bravia Link or Bravia Sync
- Samsung: Anynet

Perform A Hard Reset On Your Controller
If re-pairing the controller doesnt work, the issue might be with the controller itself and not the PS4. In that case, youll need to reset the controller. Youll need an unfolded paper clip with which to push a hidden button on your PS4 to reset it.
Turn off your PS4 and unplug both it and your internet router or modem so that your controller wont receive any network signals when you reset it. When thats done, flip the controller over and look for a small hole on the right side. Push the paperclip in the hole and push the button inside for three to five seconds. Its best to hold it down for a count of 10 to be sure.
When youve done that, plug in both your router and your PS4 again. Turn on the PS4, then plug your controller into the USB cable. That should re-pair the controller from scratch. If it doesnt work, you may have a broken controller on your hands.
Get An Accessory Or Two
Sure, youre all set up and ready to play, but if youve placed your smartphone in a precarious position while youre playing, youd be well-served with a key accessory: a phone mount. A search on Amazon for PS4 phone mount will yield a few options from obscure accessory makers, so make sure the mount will fit your phone model and read some customer reviews before you drop $15 on one.
That phone mount will allow you to clip your smartphone to your DualShock 4 controller, and adjust the viewing angle to fit your needs. If you plan on using Remote Play often, a phone mount might be the one missing piece of the puzzle that keeps you away from your TV for good.

The Comprehensive Way: Ds4windows
DS4Windows is a freeware program that tricks your PC into thinking an Xbox 360 controller is connected, instead of a DualShock 4. Follow these steps to get it to work.
Download DS4Windows and unzip it to a directory.
Open DS4Windows.exe in the directory you just unzipped.
Follow the steps in the driver installer. This installs a multipurpose gamepad driver to your system that DS4Windows uses to get the DualShock 4 to work.
Connect your DualShock 4 to your PC.
The controller should show up under the Controllers tab. Wait a minute to make sure all of the necessary drivers show up. Once Windows pops up a message saying it has connected a new Xbox 360 controller, you’re ready to play!

The remote is miles ahead of the competition in both design and performance. It looks a lot like the PS3 media remote, which is a very good thing .
