How Can You Lose Your Ps4 Videos And Saves
There are many reasons games, apps, media, or other data might disappear from your PS4.
- Unlike SSDs, mechanical hard drives contain fragile moving parts. A bump or drop can damage them.
- An electrical spike can respectively fry some electronics.
- Power loss or a misbehaving game or app can corrupt the storage devices file system.
- A failed update might also corrupt your storage or render some games and apps unusable.
Download Ps4 Saves On Ps5 Via The Cloud
If you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber and have been since you were playing on PS4, all your PS4 saves should be safely nestled in the cloud ready to download straight onto your PS5 with minimal fuss.
In order to find them, head to:
Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data > Cloud Storage > Download to Console Storage
From here, you’ll be given a list of all the PS4 saves you currently have stored in the cloud. You can either go through and tick all the ones you want to transfer, or simply hit the select all toggle to the right. It’s then just a case of downloading them all to your PS5.
Use A Usb Stick To Back Up Your Ps4’s Saved Data
The first way you can back up your PS4’s saved data is with a USB stick. Ensure you format your USB drive before you attempt to save any data to it, or the process won’t work.
Insert your USB stick into your PS4. Next, go through Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Copy to USB Storage Device.
Now, simply pick a game, choose some or all of its saved data, and select Copy when you’re done.
If you want to copy over multiple saved data at once, press the Options button on your controller and choose Select Multiple Applications. Then, choose the saved data for games you want to copy and select Copy when you’re done.

Select A Portable Storage Drive
If you have a portable HDD or SSD drive around your house, you may skip to the next step. Otherwise, were checking the requirements.
Thankfully, the PS4 doesnt ask for much. You can use almost any external storage drive, as long as it meets these specs:
- It must have SuperSpeed USB 5Gbps to 20Gbps. It means any USB 3.0, USB 3.1, or USB 3.2 drive will work. USB 2.0 or below wont work properly.
- The storage space can range from 250GB to 8TB of space.
- You can use single external storage on the PS4 at a time.
- You cant use the extended storage with a USB hub.
That said, external HDD drives are cheap and reliable. You can get 4TB extra storage for less than two AAA games. And the drive will last for years.
On the other hand, SSD is just as reliable as its counterparts but about twice as expensive. However, the extra fee would bring around 20% faster load times on your games, as the PS4 wasnt built with SSDs drives in mind.
Its up to you to decide on the purchase, so herere some examples:
How to Identify Your External Drive Is USB 3.0?
Recover Your Ps4 Files Using Data Recovery Software
Sonys PS4 can use two different types of formats for similar purposes.
- The PS4s internal storage is formatted using a proprietary and encrypted file system.
- If you use an external USB drive to extend your PlayStation 4s available storage, you can use *two** types of format: the same proprietary and encrypted file system as the internal drive, or exFAT.
When using exFAT on a storage device, the PlayStation 4 cant use it as a true extension of its internal drive. This means that you cant install games or apps on it unless you reformat it with PS4s proprietary External Storage format. However, you can use it to store backups or keep media files to have them accessible on both your console and a PC.
Theres no point in connecting an external USB drive formatted on your PS4 using Sonys proprietary and encrypted format to your PC. It will appear as RAW. Your computer wont know how to handle Sonys format. You can only format it as if it were a new drive to reuse it on your PC.
Any attempt at recovering data stored on an encrypted PS4 drive can only be performed through the options available when its directly connected to your PlayStation 4.
If, though, you were using the exFAT format for file storage, your external USB drive will be recognizable on your PC. In that scenario, you can use a data recovery application to recover the data you had stored on it.

How to play your PlayStation 4 games on a PlayStation 5.
PlayStation 5 is a console that gives you several different ways to play. You can access your library of past games, as well as play the new games that are being made for the PlayStation 5 itself. If you are hoping to play your PlayStation 4 favorites on the console, then you are going to need to know how to download them and how to get your saves moved over.
Ps5 External Hard Drive Requirements
You cant just use any HDD for your PS5. There are certain requirements that an external hard drive must meet in order to work with the console. Those requirements are: at least 250 GB of storage capacity and a USB connection of at least 3.0.
Not only should the hard drive meet those requirements, but it also needs to be formatted for use if youve never used it with the PS4. Thats a quick and easy process, but keep in mind it deletes everything in your external HDD.
Here are some recommendations for PS5 external hard drives:
To correctly format the external HDD, connect it to the PS5, go to the consoles settings, head to Storage and select USB Extended Storage. Choose to format it as a USB extended storage and there you go: the external HDD is formatted and ready to go.
If you already used a HDD with your PS4, you wont need to format that same HDD when plugging it in to your PS5.

There are a lot of people questions often have when it comes to dealing with their game saves on the PlayStation 4. I have covered most of the content people need to know in the sections above. Here are some additional questions that people often have around managing save data on the PlayStation 4.
How To Set Your Ps4 To Upload Your Data Automatically
Your PS4 can be configured to upload relevant game data to online storage on its own when its on Rest Mode. To enter Rest Mode, you need to press and hold the Home button button in the middle of the controller. Then, go to the Power button icon and select Enter Rest Mode. Youll know that the console is on Rest Mode as the front LED light turns to orange instead of white.

Progress Not Saved When Playing Offline On Ps4
After playing Generation Zero in offline single player mode for over two hours, I decided to take a break. I had made it to at least three safe houses and already achieved five trophies. Imagine my shock when I turned my game back on later to continue the adventure and the game had not saved any of my progression. Even the character I created was gone. No saved data at all. I thought it might be a one-time bug, so I started over only to have the same thing happen again. I tried multiple times to no avail! I down loaded the latest update. Still no change. I think you will have to agree that this is a game breaking bug/ glitch/ etc. of some kind. Are the devs going to address this with a patch/fix and if so when? Please respond.Looking forward to your reply.Thank you
Could you help me with some followup questions. we are trying to nail down the cause for this.
- Did you install the game through disc or the PS4 store download?
- How are you offline? No cable? Turned off internet in settings? No +plus+ membership? Loosing connection during gameplay, or no connection from start? Something else?
- What is the build version number
- Do you see the save icon during game play. The game should save after: Unlocking safe house, looting, rearranging your inventory, completing mission objective, combat etc.
- What PS4 system are you on? Base or Neo?
Any fix on this?I am experiencing the same problem.

How To Download Playstation 4 Game On Your Playstation 5
Downloading games is simple. Ifyou have a disc, just pop it in. If you bought the game, then it should show up in your game library automatically if you are signed in to the same account. If you know you bought a game digitally and it isnt showing up, just hop over to the PlayStation Store and search for the title. There will be a download button where the price is usually shown. Press X and the game will be on your console in no time.
If you have a compatible storage device, you can place games on it and then access them from your PlayStation 5 console. You can also connect your systems together by wi-fi or by LAN cable. To do this, sign in to your account on both consoles and choose to transfer your PS4 data on your Playstation 5.
If a game is showing up on your PlayStation 4 as bought, but the is wants you to purchase it on your PlayStation 5, double-check to make sure there isnt a PlayStation 5 version of the game that you have landed on. If you are on the correct page, try accessing the store again, there are some situations where a license has the potential not to show up, but if you talk to Sony support, they will be able to have the game unlocked for you.
You Need Playstation Plus
The biggest disappointment with PS4 online storage feature is its need to have a premium PlayStation Plus subscription. If you are the type who wants to play games alone, having a PlayStation Plus membership will definitely not make sense at all. Sadly, theres no getting around this limitation. However, if you already have an existing PS Plus subscription, you should definitely consider using this option.

How Do I Make Space On My Ps4 To Install A New Game
There are multiple ways to free up memory when installing a new game. If you would like to install the game to the PS4 system storage, you may need to delete some applications. Don’t worry, you won’t lose access to any deleted games you can redownload the application from your Library whenever you like.
If you don’t want to delete the existing games in PS4 system storage, you can download the new game using an external HDD, or upgrade the existing PS4 HDD. Please select the appropriate guide below for further instructions.
Use Playstation Plus Online Cloud Storage To Move Save Files
It’s likely you already subscribe to PlayStation Plus. That means you have access to cloud storage. This is an easy way to transfer data. From the PlayStation 4 home screen, navigate to:
- Saved Data in System Storage
- Upload to Online Storage
The process for choosing which games or individual files to upload is the same as choosing which ones to copy to a USB drive.

Gift Games With The Playstation Store Gift Card
The next part of the equation is how to buy the PlayStation Gift Card. Its not available on the PlayStation Store, but you can find it through the site.
After you buy it, you can gift the card to someone else so that person can buy any game in the PlayStation Store.
Its not technically a gift, and its far from desirable. However, its the only real option youve got. The good part is every PlayStation game is available digitally and physically you dont have to worry about unavailability.
Back Up Ps4 Save Data To Usb For Free
If you dont have PlayStation Plus, you can still back up your save data manually. Youll need a spare USB drive. Make sure its empty, as the PS4 might have to format the drive before it can use it, which will erase the contents.
First, connect the USB drive to one of the USB ports on the front of your PS4. Then, head to Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Copy to USB Storage Device. If you dont see this option, make sure the USB drive is completely inserted and correctly formatted.
Wait for the PS4 to scan your drive. On the next screen, you can select an individual game, highlight any files you want to save, and then select Copy.
If you want to back up multiple applications, hit Options, and then choose Select Multiple Applications to copy entire folders of save files for multiple game titles.
Manual USB backups are the best safeguard against single save files that become corrupted. If a corrupted save file is automatically sent to PlayStation Plus, youll lose the old version. You can also turn off automatic uploads, but that puts your other save files at risk.

Transfer Data Via The Internet
The PS5 offers something called Data Transfer, which, as the name suggests, lets you transfer all data from your old console to your new one. This is done via an internet connection, and you can either complete the whole thing wirelessly or by using ethernet cables.
The first thing youll need to do is make sure youre signed in to the same PlayStation account on both consolesyou can do this by going to the Settings menu on each console and checking your Account details.
Then check that both consoles are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. You can also do this from Settings by going to the Network menu.
You can connect the consoles to the same network either wirelessly or via ethernet cables. Either way will work, but wireless transfer might take longer. You can speed up the process by connecting the consoles to each other with a single ethernet cable.
Once the consoles are on the same network, go to Settings in your PS5 again. Then go to System > System Software > Data Transfer.
When you select this last option, the PS5 will show more information about what data will be moved from your PS4, and will tell you that it wont be removed from your PS4.
Youll then be asked to prepare for the data transfer by making sure that both of your consoles are turned on and connected to the same network.
When you hit Continue, youll be given a five-minute countdown. Youll have to press your PS4s power button for one second until it beeps before the countdown ends.
