Its been a long time coming, but The Sims is finally available on console. Xbox One and PS4 players can now sink hours into creating Sims, building houses and controlling their Sims every move.

Ive been a huge fan of The Sims since I was just a kid, back when the original version came out in 2000. It was a power hungry beast, and I didnt have a good enough computer to play it on, but some of my friends did. Id beg to sleepover in order to spend a ridiculous amount of time with our eyes glued to the screen to make sure we didnt miss anything our Sims said or did.

17 years later, Im still a fan. Its the ultimate escapism, and in its fourth iteration its bigger and better than ever. Now, for the first time, The Sims is available to play in its entirety on console. There have been plenty of The Sims games for consoles and handheld devices over the years, but they never had the same depth and detail as the PC version so didnt quite have the same appeal.

Variety Of Skin Tones

Since the release of The Sims 4, players complained about a lack of realistic skin tones for The Sims 4, particularly for darker-skinned Sims. One player named Xmiramira was critical of the issue, and following her appearance on the reality TV series The Sims Spark’d, which aired from July to August 2020, her mod for additional dark skin tones received significant media attention. Following this, Pearson posted a video on on August 12, 2020, stating that the development team would fix the visual artifacts of the current skin tones and bring new skin tones into the game in the fall.

Pearson further reiterated these sentiments in a blog post on The Sims official website on September 3, 2020, stating that the development team were carefully considering how and when to develop and implement missing features and skintones into the game. Customization updates to the skin tones were introduced in a December 2020 patch. These updates include adjustable sliders that modify the brightness of the skin colours, along with more presets. They also introduced makeup sliders so that the makeup would match the new skin tones.
