First tip: Don’t wait until you see an alert for a PS5 inventory drop. Check the links at major retailers for stock updates daily or even multiple times a day. If you do happen upon some PS5 availability, go all-in with as many browsers and devices as possible. On a desktop, for example, open the retailer’s page in Chrome, Firefox and Edge. Then do the same on your phone and tablet. The more devices and browsers, the better. It’s like with lottery tickets: The more you have, the better your chances of winning.
Second tip: Create accounts at the different retailers and make sure you’re already logged in if you’re going to try to get a PS5. There are two versions of Sony’s latest console: so how do you know whether to buy the PS5 or PS5 Digital Edition? Well, there’s one major difference between the two – outside of the price.
The PS5 Digital Edition does not include a disc drive so no physical copies of games can be played on the console and you will have to buy all of your games digitally. All purchases have to be made through the official PSN Store. You will, however, still be able to play old PS4 games as long as you bought a digital copy. With that in mind, if you’ve fully embraced the digital revolution and are looking to save on the upfront cost of the console then the PS5 Digital Edition may be right for you.
For most, though, we’d suggest sticking with the standard PS5 as it has the added flexibility with the included disc drive. The other major sticking point with the PS5 Digital Edition is that Sony manufactures far fewer of them compared to the normal PS5. When retailers restock the consoles, then, you often have a considerably smaller chance of getting a Digital Edition – if they even have this version on sale in the first place.

Whats new:The Target PS5 restock today was the first time any retailer in the US had stock of the Sony console in February 2022. After a two-week draught, our sources and reporting was proven accurate as a medium-sized PlayStation 5 restock occurred online at 7:36am EST for in-store pick-up. Know this: Target restocks the PS5 every three weeks on average, so the next stock is expected in early March 2022.
The basics:Target does online orders with same-day in-store pickups. It feels great to see my followers smiling with their console-in-hand photos almost immediately after ordering the PlayStation 5 in the morning. You can go from wanting a PS5 for over a year to playing Ratchet & Clank in a matter of hours. With Target, youre buying online, but competing with your neighbors as you select a local store. Usually, when enough PlayStation 5 consoles trickle into the back rooms of its individual stores, it does a nationwide online restock .
Playstation 5 Stock Shortage
Sony had only planned on the production of 5 million PlayStation 5 games consoles by the end of March 2021. However, as the popularity of gaming exploded during the first lockdowns, Sony doubled PlayStation production to meet 10 million units by the same date.
Sadly, it wasn’t enough.In May 2021, Sony privately warned analysts that PlayStation 5 shortages would continue until 2022: “I dont think demand is calming down this year and even if we secure a lot more devices and produce many more units of the PlayStation 5 next year, our supply wouldnt be able to catch up with demand,” said Hiroki Totoki, Sony’s Chief Financial Officer.
On 12th November 2021 the PS5’s first birthday Sony Interactive Entertainment boss Jim Ryan addressed historic demand for the PS5 in a PlayStation.Blog post. Ryan admitted that “inventory constraints remain a source of frustration for our customers” and said that Sony is “laser-focussed” on shipping as many console units as possible.
It all sounds very positive but the truth is, the company expects to produce one million fewer consoles 15 million, rather than 16 million in the financial year ending March 2022.
