What You Need To Pair A Ps3 Controller With A Ps4
You need a special controller converter to use a PS3 controller with the PS4. Sony doesn’t make such adapters, so you must purchase one from a third-party. Like the Gam3Gear Brook Super Converter, some adapters are for connecting PS3 controllers with the PS4, but others let you operate several different controllers with multiple devices. The former are generally less expensive than the latter. Each adapter comes with instructions and connection cables, and most of them require you to download additional software.
The Cronusmax Plus Cross Cover Gaming Adapter, available from Amazon, is an excellent choice because it supports scripts that enable your PS3 controller to do anything a PS4 controller can do.
The Cronusmax Plus costs considerably more than a new PS4 controller. Still, it allows you to use your PS3 controller with other consoles and vice versa, so it’s worthwhile for a gamer with multiple systems.

Do Ps4 Controllers Work With The Ps3 Console
No they do not!!!
If my car only drove in reverse and started 80% of the time would you consider that working?
Certainly not if I was trying to convince you to buy the car at full market price. You wouldnt consider it working because it has partial functionality paired with unreliability. And that describes the PS4 controller connected to a PS3 console.
Unfortunately theres a plethora of videos on YouTube hosted by snot-nosed teens demonstrating PS4 controllers working on the PS3 console. Theyre not faking it they really are controlling the games with the PS4 controller but thats not the whole story.
What they typically forget to mention is that the PS button doesnt work. Youre probably thinking that just means you cant wake the PlayStation with the controller. Thats no big deal though right? No oddly thats the only thing the PS button can do. Which suggests that the button can communicate with the console but after that, possibly deliberately, it has no functionality. Without the PS button you cant enter the controller settings, you cant turn the console off, you cant exit a game once youve entered it, and theres no guarantee all the other controller buttons will work as expected once youre in a game. Some games wont let you in at all.
Maybe someday Sony will be cool and release a software update for the PS3 console that will allow the PS4 controller to work with it. Comment below what you think that chances of that happening are.
Do Playstation 3 Bluetooth Remotes Work On A Ps4
You might also be wondering if a PlayStation 3 Bluetooth remote works on a PS4. If you used your PS3 Bluetooth remote to interact with Netflix on your PS3, youll likely want to do the same on your PS4.
Unfortunately, a PlayStation 3 Bluetooth remote is not compatible with a PS4 console and will not work.
This is regrettable, however, there are now PS4 Bluetooth remotes available to buy to accomplish the same thing as the PS3 Bluetooth remote.
These newer Bluetooth remotes can allow you to interact with Netflix on your PS4.

Issues To Consider With Both Methods
There are always minor setbacks within the tech world. But, the issues Im about to mention next really shouldnt be too much of a hindrance to you and your gameplay!
When youve connected the PS4 controller via a cable to your PS3, there arent too many issues normally.
However, one small problem that is mentioned quite often by gamers is, when you connect an additional PS3 controller to your PS3 after youve connected a DualShock 4, sometimes games automatically pick the PS3 controller as the main controller.
A way to stop a PS3 controller from becoming the main controller is to assign the PS3 controller to Controller 2.
The wireless route has a few more issues in comparison.
A biggy with the wireless method is that the PS4 is seen as a generic controller. What I mean by this is, the PS3 doesnt see that it has a new generation controller plugged in. Meaning all the fabulous features on a DualShock 4 wont work.,
Features you wont see are: the touchpad wont work properly, if at all. Plus, haptic feedback isnt going to be on point either!
But, if youre okay with not having haptics and a touchpad these problems arent going to be that big of a problem for you!
Another minor issue, and Im not even sure its an issue to be fair, is that you must re-pair your PS4 controller with your PS4 when you go back to playing on this gen console. Its all pretty basic stuff and it wont take you long to do either!

What Do Ps4 Controller Colors Mean
The light bar on the controller is used to identify the player in the game. Player 1 is blue, player 2 is red, player 3 is green, and player 4 is pink. For example, in Killzone: Shadow Fall, the light bar evolves into another color as the action heats up and the player takes damage, signifying that things are awry.
How Many Controllers Can You Connect To A Ps4
A great question regarding the PS4 is how many controllers can you connect to it? You may want to play a game with your friends or family but arent sure how many people can play at once.
Although some party games only require 1 controller to play, you might want to play some other couch co-op games like Borderlands 3 or Overcooked, so youll need some more controllers.
The PlayStation 4 can support up to 4 controllers connected at the same time. Providing a game supports couch co-op of up to 4 players, this means you and 3 other people can play a video game at once.
In fact, when you have connected 4 controllers to your PS4 youll see that each of them has a different colored LED to signify which player you are:
- Blue Player 1
- Green Player 3
- Pink Player 4

Ps5 Dualsense Controller Works On Ps3
A YouTuber by the name of MidnightMan has demonstrated how the PS5 DualSense works when paired with the two old Sony consoles, which you can watch below.
The video shows a series of ways MidnightMan attempted to connect the controller, such as using the traditional way of plugging in a cable, but the DualSense failed to connect to the PS4. He then tried connecting the controller via Bluetooth and although the DualSense did register as a wireless controller in the PS4s Bluetooth devices menu, the controller wasnt functional.
MidnightMan attempted the Remote Play method using a number of devices. First he tried connecting his PS5 controller to his iPad and iPhone, but was unable to find a Bluetooth connection with both devices. On Windows, he was able to at least find the device, but was unable to connect to it successfully and on MacBook, it connected via Bluetooth, but was not functional. Midnight Man also demonstrated that the PS4 DualShock controller does work on all of the devices to confirm it wasnt a tech issue.
Finally, he directly connected the DualSense controller to his PC using the cable, and then connected via Remote Play. The attempt was successful, but the connection was bad and he claims that the DualSense is not the most consumer-friendly controller, as you cannot connect to a PS4 natively.
