What they typically forget to mention is that the PS button doesnt work. Youre probably thinking that just means you cant wake the PlayStation with the controller. Thats no big deal though right? When youve connected the PS4 controller via a cable to your PS3, there arent too many issues normally.
However, one small problem that is mentioned quite often by gamers is, when you connect an additional PS3 controller to your PS3 after youve connected a DualShock 4, sometimes games automatically pick the PS3 controller as the main controller.
A way to stop a PS3 controller from becoming the main controller is to assign the PS3 controller to Controller 2.
The wireless route has a few more issues in comparison.
A biggy with the wireless method is that the PS4 is seen as a generic controller. What I mean by this is, the PS3 doesnt see that it has a new generation controller plugged in. Meaning all the fabulous features on a DualShock 4 wont work.,
Features you wont see are: the touchpad wont work properly, if at all. Plus, haptic feedback isnt going to be on point either!
But, if youre okay with not having haptics and a touchpad these problems arent going to be that big of a problem for you!
Another minor issue, and Im not even sure its an issue to be fair, is that you must re-pair your PS4 controller with your PS4 when you go back to playing on this gen console. Its all pretty basic stuff and it wont take you long to do either!
Connect Ps4 Controller To Ps3 Console Wirelessly
If you prefer to play games wirelessly, you can choose to connect the PS4 controller to the console through bluetooth.
Before you start, you need to ensure the system software of your PS3 has the version 4.6 or higher installed, or PS4 controller cannot be connected to PS3. 1) Connect the controller to the console with a USB cable .
2) Turn on the controller and the console.

- In Step 1, click Next to continue

Connect Ps4 Controller To Ps3 Console Through Wire
Its very simple to connect PS4 controller to PS3 console through wire. You just need to prepare a USB cable. The USB cable should be able to plug to the PS4 controller and the PS3 console at the same time. A USB 2.0 A to USB Micro B cable is what youll need.
Then plug the cable to the controller and the console. Once the controller and the console are connected, the controller will be paired automatically. You can check it by playing games with the PS4 controller on PS3 console.
How To Connect A Ps4 Controller To Your Ps3 For Wireless Use
1. Connect the controller and console with the USB cable and power both on.
2. Open the Settings menu, then go to “Accessory Settings.”
3. Click on “Manage Bluetooth Devices.”

5. Click on “Start Scanning,” and then disconnect the cable from the PS4 controller.

It seems that the PS5DualSense controller works very well with PS3 consoles, but not with the PS4.
A YouTuber by the name of MidnightMan has demonstrated how the PS5 DualSense works when paired with the two old Sony consoles, which you can watch below.
The video shows a series of ways MidnightMan attempted to connect the controller, such as using the traditional way of plugging in a cable, but the DualSense failed to connect to the PS4. He then tried connecting the controller via Bluetooth and although the DualSense did register as a wireless controller in the PS4s Bluetooth devices menu, the controller wasnt functional.
MidnightMan attempted the Remote Play method using a number of devices. First he tried connecting his PS5 controller to his iPad and iPhone, but was unable to find a Bluetooth connection with both devices. On Windows, he was able to at least find the device, but was unable to connect to it successfully and on MacBook, it connected via Bluetooth, but was not functional. Midnight Man also demonstrated that the PS4 DualShock controller does work on all of the devices to confirm it wasnt a tech issue.
Finally, he directly connected the DualSense controller to his PC using the cable, and then connected via Remote Play. The attempt was successful, but the connection was bad and he claims that the DualSense is not the most consumer-friendly controller, as you cannot connect to a PS4 natively.
Connect The Ps3 Controller
After unpairing the connected PS4 controller, it is time to connect the PS3 controller to the console. To achieve that, you need to download and install the Cronus Pro software on your computer. Then, follow the steps below:
Step 1: Connect the CronusMax Plus adapter to your computer and open the software.

Step 2: Click the Tools tab and choose Options from the drop-down menu.
Step 3: In the pop-up window, go to the Device tab. Select PS4 under the Output Protocol section, choose DISABLED under the Rumble Over Bluetooth section, and check the following options:

- The device will remember the last active slot when restarted
- Inframe Out
- 1ms Response

Step 5: Then, close the software and disconnect the CronusMax Plug adapter from the computer. Then, connect the PS3 controller to the adapter and plug the adapter to your PS4 console.

Anyway, when the first LED light on the PS3 controller lights up and the screen on the CronusMax Plus reads 0, the PS3 controller should be properly connected and you are able to play games on your PS4 console with it now.
