As we get older, it is common for our tastes and style to change, which is why the Fortnite username you made a couple of years ago might not accurately reflect the person you are today.
Keep in mind that this method does not change your PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch gamertag it only applies to your Epic Games account. If you want to bypass those names when playing Fortnite on consoles, upgrade to a full Epic Games account.
If youre looking to change your console gametag, read the following:
Step 1: Log in to your Epic Games account.
Step 2: Once logged in, your account opens to the settings page by default. Click the blue Pencil button located to the right of the display name field.
Step 3: A pop-up window appears. Enter your new display name in the top text field. Confirm the name by entering it in the bottom text field.
Step 4: Choose the box that confirms your understanding that the display name is unable to be changed again for two weeks. There is no way to change your display name without first selecting this box.
How To Change Your Fortnite Name On Xbox Series X/s And Xbox One
Fortnite players on Xbox One, like PlayStation users, will need to change their gamertags to play Fortnite under a different username. Here are the steps you need to follow to change your Fortnite name on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One:
- Go to the official website to choose your new gamertag.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account email address and password associated with your gamertag. Confirm that youre signed in to the right account by ensuring it says your current gamertag in the top-right corner of the page after signing in.
- Enter the new gamertag you want in the text box and select Check availability. It is worth noting that Gamertags can be up to 12 characters long, including spaces. They cant start with a number.
- On the next page, review how the gamertag will look across Xbox services.
- If youre satisfied with your new gamertag, select Claim it.
Is Changing Your Fortnite Username Free
The answer to this depends on what platform youre using. If you are using the mobile versions, like android or iOS, then its completely free of charge. This is also true for the Nintendo Switch version. The PC Version offers a free name change as well. Because editing your username is tied to Epic Games, you wont have to pay for any additional display name changes you make.
The same is not true if youre using the console versions for Xbox and PS4. Editing your account name will only be free of charge if you are altering your Gamertag or PSN name for the first time. Any additional changes will need to be paid for. Both Xbox and PlayStation charge fees for additional edits after the first. Each change currently costs $10.00 per edit on both platforms.

On October 16, notable leaker HYPEX shared information about a new character with the codename Headband that was added in the v18.20 update.
