How Good Is Ps5’s 3d Tempest Audio
If you head into the PS5 settings, you can adjust the 3D audio to suit your preference. There are five levels of height to choose from, so select the option that sounds closest to your ear level. Remember that 3D audio works on any headset, either wirelessly or when plugged into the DualSense controller.
The PS5’s 3D Tempest Audio is Sony’s take on Dolby Atmos, or spatial audio in general. It works on any headset, with 3D audio support for TV speakers now available thanks to a recent update.
We’ve tested various spatial audio solutions in the past, ranging from Windows Sonic to Dolby Atmos, and we’ve found that PS5’s 3D Audio is a comparable experience overall, though it isnt quite the revelation we hoped it might be.
We enjoyed hearing ships fly past and over our head in Astro’s Playroom, and appreciated being able to pick out thugs that were closing in on us in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. It’s not as detailed or as realistic as Sony made out, though, at least not at this stage, and it will be up to developers to get the most out of the technology as it matures.
Returnal has shown that 3D audio can be a powerful tool when it comes to increasing immersion and that it can also be beneficial in fast-paced games where audio cues are just as important as what you see on screen. Its the best implementation of the technology yet, and we hope Sony continues to support it.

The PS5 is ushering in a generation of games that will cost up to $70/£70 a game, which means youre going to have to get used to spending a good amount more on games if you want to get them as soon as they come out. Lets say youve just got a PS5, then your main choice of exclusives are Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demons Souls, costing $49/£49 and $69/£69 respectively on the PlayStation Store.
As getting one game for the PS5 doesn’t really make sense, were going to assume youll want both to get yourself started on Sonys new console. That means youll need to part with $118/£118, which is a pretty hefty amount for two games, one of which is basically an expansion pack to a 2018 game as well as a being available on the PS4 and the other is a remake, albeit a grimly beautiful one, of a 2009 game. Fancy a third-party game, with next-gen graphics? Then you could opt for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which will still set you back $59/£59, though the game has been discounted for the holiday season. While you can wait for game sales, getting a suite of PS5 games to get started with isnt going to be cheap.

OK, so given all about the above, what is the TRUE price of owning a PS5? I just did some quick maths based on all of the points listed above and youre looking at around $1145, although that figure is based on you having to buy a 4K TV as well.
If you dont need to buy a 4K TV, the price comes down to a more palatable but still pretty expensive $746 which, as you can now probably gather, is A LOT more than the advertised price of $399.
So, yeah the PS5 price is NOT $499 not if you want to perform it as it was designed to. But the system itself is very compelling if you can actually find one to buy!
