Late 2003200: Sequels To Bioware Games

South Park: The Stick Of Truth PS4

Towards the end of 2003, the team was contacted by president Simon Jeffrey, who requested that Obsidian make an set in the universe. The team suggested a game concept which featured melee combat and that included established characters like . Their idea was rejected, and Jeffrey instead asked Obsidian to create a follow-up to the BioWare-developed , as the team at Obsidian was familiar with the technology that the original game used. The partnership between the two companies finalized in late 2003, and development of the game, which became , began in October 2003. Obsidian was given 15 months to develop The Sith Lords. Originally set for a holiday 2004 release, LucasArts gave the studio an extension into 2005, before shifting the release date back to holiday 2004 following the . While LucasArts did dispatch members of its own staff to help get the game out on time, a number of features wound up being cut due to time constraints. Due to the moved deadline, Obsidian also did not have enough time to polish the game, and The Sith Lords suffered from crashes and other technical issues. Despite its issues, The Sith Lords was released to positive critical reception. The cut features were eventually restored by modders, who began their effort in 2009 and finished in 2012.

Pushing The Right Boundaries

One thing youll certainly have to get on board when playing The Stick of Truth is flatulence. Farting, breaking wind, guffing, tooting – whatever you want to call it – is a key form of attack throughout the game. It becomes so casual that it ceases to be funny and just another tool, which is one of the strange impacts of the game: hearing Cartman in full swear mode after x-number of hours play just doesnt resonate as strongly as a 22-minute episode in the late of night on TV.

Dont get us wrong, though, the game has plenty of funny moments that made us laugh. Side quests where the likes of Al Gore, Mr Slave and Mr Kim are among the highlights, while most of your South Park favourite characters make an appearance in some format or other. Its the true South Park quirks that maintain the games interest and thats why we were keenly revisiting the title day after day.

We’ve completed the game, maxed out the 10,000 experience points and befriended 99 people so far and there’s only a handful of characters that haven’t shown up during our time within the game world. Towelie seems resigned to a loading screen animation, while characters killed off earlier in the series, such as Ms Crabtree, remain absent. There are still references though: toy models of The Super Best Friends, Willzyx and various Chinpokomon are strewn throughout the game.

South Park: The Stick of Truth will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in the UK from 7 March 2014.

Slim Model And Rebranding

The PlayStation 3 Slim received extremely positive reviews as well as a boost in sales less than 24 hours after its announcement, PS3 Slim took the number-one bestseller spot on Amazon.com in the video games section for fifteen consecutive days. It regained the number-one position again one day later. PS3 Slim also received praise from PC World giving it a 90 out of 100 praising its new repackaging and the new value it brings at a lower price as well as praising its quietness and the reduction in its power consumption. This is in stark contrast to the original PS3’s launch in which it was given position number-eight on their “The Top 21 Tech Screwups of 2006” list.

CNET awarded PS3 Slim four out of five stars praising its Blu-ray capabilities, 120 GB hard drive, free online gaming service and more affordable pricing point, but complained about the lack of backward compatibility for PlayStation 2 games. TechRadar gave PS3 Slim four and a half stars out of five praising its new smaller size and summed up its review stating “Over all, the PS3 Slim is a phenomenal piece of kit. It’s amazing that something so small can do so much”. However, they criticized the exterior design and the build quality in relation to the original model.

Eurogamer called it “a product where the cost-cutting hasby and largebeen tastefully done” and said “It’s nothing short of a massive win for Sony.”

What To Expect From The Stick Of Truth

[South Park: The Stick of Truth] (PS4)

In The Stick of Truth, you control your own custom-created character and explore the town of South Park, interacting with the various characters from the show. Exploring the town is still a blast, as you watch the various NPCs go about their day, and you even get to befriend some of South Park’s most iconic characters.

While a good amount of time is dedicated to exploring the world and solving simple puzzles, most of your time will be dedicated to combat, which takes a few inspirations from the Paper Mario series. Like in Paper Mario, you have the ability to block enemy attack and press buttons in conjunction to perform various special attacks. These mechanics keeps combat exciting, and you won’t just be watching your characters standing around and waiting for their turns.

Each of the four class have there own unique skills, ranging from mage and Jew “magic”, to special archer and warrior abilities. The only downside is that every weapon and piece of armor you gain isn’t specific for each class, which does take away from each of the individuality of the classes. Why try a different class when you can still use a sword or staff?

So, does The Stick of Truth hold up? Yeah, it’s still a good game. The combat is fun, if on the easy side, it’s funny as hell, and manages to tastefully recapture the look and feel of the show.

The Stick Of Truth: Then Vs Now

If you’re expecting anything new from this version, you’ll be disappointed — outside of the DLC content and a few tweaks here and there, there’s nothing really new in this version of The Stick of Truth. It’s free game, though, so it’s a little more excusable than most remasters that do just the bare minimum.

This version of the game is a little cleaner, now running in 1080p and with PS4 Pro support, but don’t expect that much of an improvement. A lot of the frame rate drops that plagued the original have been ironed out, though you will still notice a couple hitches when there are a lot of enemies in battle.

Some minor changes have also been made to address some of the game’s more difficult sections. One of the biggest changes includes a fix for the infamous anal probe scene.

It’s nowhere near as difficult and frustrating to get past this section now, making the pacing of the game much smoother. That said, the other annoying section, a boss battle with Cartman, still requires too much button mashing. Yeah, I know it’s part of the joke, but the joke loses steam when you’re forced to partake in it, and it can last for what feels like forever.

Outside of these changes, The Stick of Truth still remains largely the same.

However, if this will be your first foray into the game, you’ve got a lot to look forward to either as a fan of the series, as an RPG aficionado, or both.

An Outrageous Rpg Adventure

An all-new dynamic combat system offers new opportunities to manipulate time and space on the battlefield, and a revamped looting and crafting system gives you the freedom to develop and refine your powers as you progress through the game. Find loot hidden throughout the land and follow recipes to craft your own outrageous equipment to aid you in battle.

Sales And Production Costs

Although its PlayStation predecessors had been very dominant against the competition and were hugely profitable for Sony, PlayStation 3 had an inauspicious start, and Sony chairman and CEO Sir initially could not convince investors of a turnaround in its fortunes. The PS3 lacked the unique gameplay of the more affordable which became that generation’s most successful console in terms of units sold. Furthermore, PS3 had to compete directly with which had a market head start, and as a result the platform no longer had exclusive titles that the PS2 enjoyed such as the and series , and it took longer than expected for PS3 to enjoy strong sales and close the gap with Xbox 360. Sony also continued to lose money on each PS3 sold through 2010, although the redesigned “slim” PS3 cut these losses.

After the system’s launch, production costs were reduced significantly as a result of phasing out the chip and falling hardware costs. The cost of manufacturing had fallen dramatically as a result of moving to the production process, and Blu-ray Disc had become cheaper to manufacture. As of January 2008, each unit cost around $400 to manufacture by August 2009, Sony had reduced costs by a total of 70%, meaning it only cost Sony around $240 per unit.

South Park: The Stick Of Truth Review

South Park: The Stick of Truth on PS4 Pro(Part 1)
  • Perfect South Park style and representation
  • All the key characters provide amusement
  • Good balance of platform/exploration/turn-based gameplay
  • Curiously addictive

– If Mortal Kombat was offensive in its day then surely South Park: The Stick of Truth is 2014s coup for the crown. But not so much because of blood, guts n gore. Instead The Stick of Truth takes the turn-based role-playing genre, douses it with fuel high up the offence-o-meter, then sets it on fire via flatulence to open flame.

And in that one sentence youve probably already made up your mind as to whether this game has any chance of being for you. Fart jokes, casual swearing and downright oddness that, at times, is so extreme it didnt pass the cutting table without some intervention. And we dont mean divine intervention – although Jesus donning a machine gun and shades is one in-game attack feature – but rather decision to censor some content in the EU. Still interested? We thought so you little devils.

If youre a South Park fan then youll know all too well how the show collides current political and social comment with the inane to often hilarious effect. Its not as devious as it may sound, though, as the shows creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker typically deliver content with purpose, even if it does surf the wave of questionable at times. But if youre a comedy liberal then seeing how far you can be pushed to laugh and/or cringe is all part of the fun.

South Park Stick Of Truth

If I pre order the new game in the shop, do I get the stick of truth right away? I’m in NA if that matters. I don’t mind paying for the whole game if I have to, just curious. Thanks.

I believe if you preorder the digital version of Fractured Butt Whole on the PSN, then you are given Stick of Truth digital. If you preorder the physical version, then you have to wait till release to get Stick of Truth digital.

And they charge me for the game right away even if it’s a preorder right? Thanks for the info I appreciate it

Preordered couple days ago. You get it immediately. Playing stick of truth right now. Can’t believe I missed this game. It’s fantastic

The music man! It seriously sounds like a medieval RPG not a SouthPark-themed parody of one.

It’s such a great game and unless I missed it, the game never got the attention it deserved. I discovered this in high school, where we spent all our class periods playing games on our laptops, the day a kid brought this in on a USB and gave it to people, was the day I wondered how I never heard of it. I beat it though twice and to this day I still think I could pick it up and beat it without losing interest. GREAT game, cannot wait for the Fractured Butt Whole.

South Park: The Stick of Truth is a 2014 role-playing video game developed by Obsidian Entertainment in collaboration with South Park Digital Studios and published by Ubisoft. Based on the American adult animated television series South Park, the game follows the New Kid, who has moved to the eponymous town and becomes involved in an epic role-play fantasy war involving humans, wizards, and elves, who are fighting for control of the all-powerful Stick of Truth. Their game quickly escalates out of control, bringing them into conflict with aliens, Nazi zombies, and gnomes, threatening the entire town with destruction.

The game is played from a 2.5D, third-person perspective replicating the aesthetic of the television series. The New Kid is able to freely explore the town of South Park, interacting with characters and undertaking quests, and accessing new areas by progressing through the main story. By selecting one of four character archetypes, Fighter, Thief, Mage, or Jew, each offering specific abilities, the New Kid and a supporting party of characters use a variety of melee, ranged, and magical fart attacks to combat with their enemies.

Character Actions And Abilities

S.C.O.U.R.G.E.: Heroes of Lesser Renown

Most of the actions in an RPG are performed indirectly, with the player selecting an action and the character performing it by their own accord. Success at that action depends on the character’s numeric attributes. Role-playing video games often simulate dice-rolling mechanics from non-electronic role-playing games to determine success or failure. As a character’s attributes improve, their chances of succeeding at a particular action will increase.

Many role-playing games allow players to play as an evil character. Although robbing and murdering indiscriminately may make it easier to get money, there are usually consequences in that other characters will become uncooperative or even hostile towards the player. Thus, these games allow players to make moral choices, but force players to live with the consequences of their actions. Games often let the player control an entire party of characters. However, if winning is contingent upon the survival of a single character, then that character effectively becomes the player’s . An example of this would be in , where if the character created by the player dies, the game ends and a previous save needs to be loaded.
