For the PlayStation 5, backward compatibility applies to most PlayStation 4 games on both the consoles digital and disc versions.

More importantly, Nishino revealed for the first time that your collection of PS4 games will automatically transfer to your PS5.
“When you sign in to PS5 with your account, you will automatically see your library of played PS4 content through the menu, said Nishino. …were excited about supporting our PlayStation community as they transition from PS4 to PS5 when theyre ready.”
There was some worry among gamers that the PS5 wouldn’t be backwards compatible with even PS4 games. Remember, when the PS4 launched, it couldn’t play PS3 games until PlayStation Now, Sony’s cloud subscription service. In an interview with The Washington Post , SIE CEO and President Jim Ryan confirmed that “99 per cent” of the “thousands” PS4 games that they’ve tested will run on PS5.
That does beg the question of what titles are included in the final 1%, of course.
Sony’s PlayStation 5 will only feature backwards compatibility with PS4 games – meaning that PS3, PS2 and PS1 titles will miss out.
This is due to it being “based in part on the PS4’s architecture.”
In the most recent PS5 tech deep dive, they revealed that they are aiming to make the top 100 PS4 games available for launch on the new console.
However, Sony have confirmed that 4000+ PS4 titles will be supported on the new system.
All is not lost as many PS3 games are available via PlayStation Now, PlayStation Plus or by purchasing them os the PSN Stire plus any PS1 and PS2 games that are included.

Do Ps4 Accessories Work With The Ps5
The PS5’s backward compatibility extends to accessories as well as gamesthough not quite so seamlessly.
Most importantly, the wireless DualShock 4 PS4 controller does work with the PS5, but only when you’re playing PS4 games. You need to use the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller for PS5 games.
You can use PSVR with existing PS4 titles on the PS5, but you need to get a camera adapter to do so. On the upside, Sony is actually dishing these out for free if you already own a PS4 camera.

Currently, only 10 PS4 games will not be playable on PS5 via backwards compatibility. They are:

As busy as Sony is showing off its brand new console, it’s clearly not prepared to leave the PS4 in the dust. The company has made the unconventional decision to release PS4 versions of several of its biggest next-gen titles to give a broader audience of PlayStation fans access to the eagerly anticipated new games. Sony’s even offering a free next-gen upgrade for these titles when and if the players decide to make the upgrade. Between this development and the announcement of the PlayStation Plus Collection, which brings a large selection of PS4 classics to the PlayStation 5, Sony clearly isn’t content to let the past stay in the past.
