Ps5 Review: Unboxing And Design
I’m a fan of the PS5’s futuristic, flared design.
As can be seen in T3’s PS5 unboxing video,;the PlayStation 5 is an absolute beast of a console in terms of proportions. This is a system that tops out at just under 40cm in height, and is 26cm deep, and 10cm wide. If you want something that’s compact and easy to conceal in your entertainment setup, the PS5 isn’t it.
The console comes in a compartmentalised white cardboard box, which as well as securely holding the hardware, also delivers its base, DualSense controller, cables, and paperwork.
The PS5 base is something that is unique to Sony in the next-gen, with Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S eschewing them due to their rather fatter, more traditional and stable designs, which are rectangular prisms.
The base can be affixed to the console either in its vertical or horizontal orientation, although it’s obvious that the primary usage is for when positioning vertically. The base screws into the PlayStation 5’s base in the vertical position, and just clamps on to one of its flared case wings when displayed horizontally.
The PS5 attached to its base in a vertical orientation.
When it comes to the console’s design, specifically, as I mentioned in the verdict above, I’m a big fan. The PS5 design is something that has firmly split opinion among gamers, but for me I think its size, and futuristic, flared design generates a sense of awe and power.;
I think the vents at the console’s top look class.
Ps5 Design: What Does The Playstation 5 Look Like
The PlayStation 5 design was unveiled at the 11th June PS5 event. While we already knew what to expect for the controller, the console itself hadnt yet been revealed. Two consoles were announced one with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and a Digital Edition without a disc drive. The two have minor differences, but overall, the Playstation blog says Sony aimed for a console that is bold, stunning, and unlike any previous generation of PlayStation.#
It is also sizeable, much bigger than many have expected and one of the main questions asked is why this is such a huge console. It turns out that the reason it is so big is because of the large fan that is inside to stop it from overheating- so at least the reason for the scale of it is a good one.
The PS5 is a sleek monochrome design which does indeed bare little resemblance to the PlayStations that have come before it. For more in-depth comparisons, take a look at our guide to the PS5 vs PS4.
As for what is inside, well we do not recommend opening it up for yourself to take a look when it arrives, but the folks over at PlayStation have made it so you dont have to with this handy video.

Ps: Everything You Need To Know About The Sony Playstation 5
The PlayStation 5, or PS5, is the latest console from Sony, arriving in November last year. There are two variations – one disc-based, one digital – and sadly there have been stock shortages since the console launched that make both very difficult to grab right now. But, both consoles though deliver unprecedented decreases in loading times, higher game resolutions and framerates, and overall performance. Outside of performance though, the PS5 aims to continue Sony’s legacy of delivering top-tier exclusives with its roster of upcoming PS5 games.
That will include PS5 exclusives and cross-platform titles that are currently confirmed as the upcoming PS5 games, which is currently a very exciting list of titles. Sadly, retailers are still plagued by PS5 restock issues, meaning it’s incredibly difficult to buy one right now. But, if you’re wondering whether it’s worth tracking one down, we’re here to help.;
So, whether you’re looking to buy a PS5 through all the PS5 restock updates drama, already have one, or simply just want to know more about Sony’s new PlayStation 5 console, we’ve got you covered. In this guide, we have everything you need to know from the PS5 price – $499 / £449 for the standard PS5, and $399 / £349 for the Digital Edition – to all the secrets of the PS5 design, and which PS5 accessories you’ll want to add to cart before you check out.

New Ps5 Model Contains A Major Downgrade
The newest model of the PlayStation 5 that has started to be sold to customers seems to contain a very major downgrade. Within the past month, reports have come about indicating that Sony has already started to slightly tweak the internals of the next-gen platform. And now, thanks to a new video that has come about to inspect these changes in the PS5, it looks as though the console isn’t as good as the model that was initially released last year.
In a new video from tech YouTuber Austin Evans , the internals of this new PS5 model were looked over in great detail. Based on what was found with this new version, the console itself is now lighter than the previous one, but the reason for this change can be found with what was inside. When opening up this PS5 and comparing it to the previous version, the heatsink aspects of the new PS5 seem to be slightly different than the original iteration. In a move that was clearly meant to help offset manufacturing costs of the PS5, Sony removed a large portion of the heatsink that was seen in the first revision of the console, which led to this drop in weight.
How do you feel about Sony changing the internals of the PlayStation 5 in this way? Are you upset that they seem to be cutting back on quality to save money? Let me know your thoughts either down in the comments or over on Twitter at .
Does The Playstation 5 Have A 4k Blu
Yes, it does. The PS5 can play your 4k blu-rays for that cinematic experience. Originally this wasnt confirmed, and it was thought the console would just have an optical disc drive, but dont worry its coming! In fact, the PS5 event revealed that there will be two options at launch: one PS5 console with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and another Digital Edition without a disc drive.
In that battle against the new Xbox, it makes sense to offer both- the Xbox Series X will have a 4k disc drive too, while the Xbox Series S will be digital-only.
The PlayStation 5 will also support 8k videos- although most of us will need to wait for our TVs to catch up before we benefit from it.

How Good Is Ps5’s 3d Tempest Audio
If you head into the PS5 settings, you can adjust the 3D audio to suit your preference. There are five levels of height to choose from, so select the option that sounds closest to your ear level. Remember that 3D audio works on any headset, either wirelessly or when plugged into the DualSense controller.;
The PS5’s 3D Tempest Audio is Sony’s take on Dolby Atmos, or spatial audio in general. It works on any headset, with support for TV speakers coming set to arrive sometime in the near future .
We’ve tested various spatial audio solutions in the past, ranging from Windows Sonic to Dolby Atmos, and we’ve found that PS5’s 3D Audio is a comparable experience overall, though it isnt quite the revelation we hoped it might be.
We enjoyed hearing ships fly past and over our head in Astro’s Playroom, and appreciated being able to pick out thugs that were closing in on us in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. It’s not as detailed or as realistic as Sony made out, though, at least not at this stage, and it will be up to developers to get the most out of the technology as it matures.;
Returnal has shown that 3D audio can be a powerful tool when it comes to immersion, and that it can also be beneficial in fast-paced games where audio cues are just as important as what you see on screen. Its the best implementation of the technology yet, and we hope Sony continues to support it.;

Playstation 3 Super Slim
CPU: Cell Broadband Engine 8-core 3.2 GHzGPU: Nvidia/SCEI RSX 550 MHzMemory: 256 MB
Status: Discontinued October 2016Release Price: $299
The Super Slim version of PlayStation 3 was released in late 2012, refined and redesigned. The console came out on the market with the availability of either a 250 GB or 500 GB hard drive. One of the obvious changes was the sliding disc cover, instead of the traditional slot-loading drive.
In look, shape, and design, the Super Slim version resembles something of a hybrid between the Slim and the original PlayStation 3. The console is much smaller, measuring 11.4 inches wide by 2.36 inches tall by 9.05 inches deep, 20% smaller and 25% lighter than the previous Slim console.
Beyond its smaller size and storage capacities, the Super Slim model doesnt feature anything else. A vertical stand was also available for these models and launched on the same day as the consoles in their respective regions.

New Playstation 5 Model Sports A Smaller Heatsink Making It Run Hotter
A new PlayStation 5 model is out in the wild, and it sports a rather big change that may impact the consoles performance in some ways.
In a new video shared by Austin Evans, it has been confirmed that the new PlayStation 5 Digital Edition model CFI-1100B 01, which was reported last month to be 300g lighter than the launch model, features a smaller heatsink that makes the console run much hotter. This could lead to a lot of issues in the short and long term.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Aparts Portals Could Have Been Done on PS3 Implies TT Games Founder
Austin Evans also posted a clarification on his video, highlighting how impactful the changes made to the heatsink in the new PlayStation 5 model can be.
Couple people mentioning higher exhaust temps COULD mean the cooler is doing a better job dissipating heat. The thing is, Sony removed a SIZABLE amount of the heatsink on this new model. With fewer fins and smaller heatpipes it simply isnt as efficient at moving the heat out of the console.;Think about it as if it were a PC. If I remove a large CPU heatsink in favor of a smaller one the exhaust coming off my system would be hotter as the overall system temps are higher since the weaker cooler cant cope. Thats exactly whats going on here IMO.
The PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition are now available worldwide. The new model started shipping in late July.
Ps4 Pro Vs Ps4 Slim: What About The Ps5
If you’re debating between the PS4 and PS4 Pro, perhaps you’re also wondering whether you should get a PS5. The next-gen PlayStation is more powerful, offers new features like its haptics-heavy DualSense controller and 3D audio and comes with some new exclusive games. But it’s more expensive, and difficult to buy due to ridiculously high demand. Besides, it probably won’t come into its own for another year or two yet, once developers have got to grips with making games for the system.
The PS4 Slim is arguably better to buy right now because it’s cheaper, leaving you more money for the PS5 when you fancy picking one up. However now Sony has ended production of most PS4 models, you may just accept the wait for the PS5 to come back into stock.

Dualshock Series And Sixaxis
Released in 1998, the DualShock controller for the PlayStation succeeded its predecessor, the Dual Analog, and became the longest running series of controllers for the PlayStation brand. In addition to the inputs of the original, digital, controller , the DualShock featured two analog sticks in a similar fashion to the previous Dual Analog controller, which can also be depressed to activate the L3 and R3 buttons.
The DualShock series consists of four controllers: the DualShock which was the fourth controller released for the PlayStation; the DualShock 2, the only standard controller released for the PlayStation 2, and the DualShock 3, the second and current controller released for the PlayStation 3, and the DualShock 4, which went through a massive redesign and is the default input of the PlayStation 4, and upon release was compatible with the PS3 originally only via USB and eventually with a firmware update, Bluetooth connectivity was enabled. The Sixaxis was the first official controller for the PlayStation 3, and is based on the same design as the DualShock series .
The Controller: Its A Win
If load times are the primary weapon of the PS5, the new DualSense controller is the secondary. And its impressive.
Slightly larger than the DualShock 4, it refines haptic feedback, incorporating a precise sense of touch into the video game experience that force feedback never did before. This could become hokey , but for now, it adds another layer to games, increasing player immersion.
Struggling to pull open a heavy door or draw a bow? The hand triggers can convey that tension. Had a rough landing as you drive over a hill or a slog through a muddy area? Youll know it. This new haptic feedback is a subtle thing that, like the lack of load screens, youll soon take for granted. You wont realize how quickly youve gotten used to it until its not there.
A new built-in microphone is less useful in most games, but will allow you to briefly chat with friends without a headset.
The cost of this new functionality is battery life. The DualSense has a rechargeable battery , but we found that charge to drain quickly. Charging via the PS5s USB rarely resulted in a full charge, whether in standby mode or if left on at full power. A separate charging stand, provided by Sony, did charge the controller fully.
PlayStation 4 controllers will work with the PlayStation 5, but only with PS4 games played through backward-compatibility. Microsoft offers controller cross-compatibility that lets old Xbox One controllers work with the new Xbox.
