Mortal Kombat 11 is a snappier, sharper-looking game on next-gen consoles. On both Xbox Series X and PS5, the incredibly detailed fighter has received a minor technical facelift and one or two new features that will ultimately make the game better for everyone. Though NetherRealm released a new version of the game, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, to coincide with the next-gen launches, all MK11 players receive access to the next-gen versions of the game and their benefits. On Xbox Series X/S, you simply need to download the game. On PS5, you will need to download the separate PS5 version of MK11, which you can grab free of charge if you own the PS4 version.

Mortal Kombat 11’s Resolution Is Enhanced On The Ps5

Naturally, one of the most notable enhancements is the visual upgrade. According to the game’s official website, “Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate” features “4K Dynamic Resolution” and “Enhanced Visuals,” which pretty much go hand-in-hand.

YouTube channel GameRiot released a side-by-side gameplay video to give fans a direct comparison between the PS4 and PS5 versions. The imagery is at times notably crisper, with atmospheric effects that immerse you even deeper into the game’s mythical world. Colors are generally more vibrant with richer textures, which is to be expected from such an enhancement. For eagle-eyed players, the PS5 definitely offers a visual feast, though it’s not a night-and-day difference that would sell a console by itself.

As YouTuber Tooten points out, the PS5 port won’t offer any kind of gameplay advantages over players who are using previous-gen hardware. The visual upgrades are simply going to give gamers prettier images on the screen. This is important to note because “MK11” supports cross-play, so you can confidently face your friends on a different-generation PlayStation knowing that it will be a fair fight.

The Ps5 Version Of Mortal Kombat 11 Won’t Keep You Waiting

Some fighting game enthusiasts might argue that the “Mortal Kombat” games can be a bit slow. However, that doesn’t mean that you should have to wait a long time for a match to load. You want to get right into the action so you can deliver those heavy, time-consuming blows.

The “Mortal Kombat” website highlights “Significantly Improved Loading Times,” and the difference is palpable. YouTube channel DominatorTx uploaded a video comparing the load times for the PS4 and PS5 versions. The next-gen port appears to load in a flash, clocking in at one second. It goes so quickly, you may not even realize you just witnessed a loading screen. The PS4 port, on the other hand, feels like an eternity by comparison, taking a whopping 14 seconds before the pre-match dialogue begins. By the time the PS4 user has loaded into the round, the PS5 counterpart is nearly finished with the characters’ opening lines.

PS5 players are able to move quickly from one match to the next and isn’t that really what “Mortal Kombat’ is all about?

Mortal Kombat 11 Is Free To Play This Weekend On Ps4 And Xbox One

Warner Bros. has announced a free trial weekend for Mortal Kombat 11. Available on PS4 and Xbox One, the trial kicks off Friday, October 11 and will be live until Monday, October 14.

The trial version includes a decent chunk of content, too. You’ll have access to the first two chapters of the Mortal Kombat 11 story campaign, and play as the game’s full launch roster across all multiplayer modes. Kombat Pack characters, such as Nightwolf, Shang Tsung and the recently released Terminator T-800 can be previewed, though only in the Towers of Time mode.

All progress will carry over to the full version of the game if you buy it. PlayStation Plus/Xbox Live Gold are required for online play, but not to download the trial or access any offline content. Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate Comes To Ps5 Next Month Ps4 Owners Get Free Upgrade

Mortal Kombat 11 is about to get even bigger and better on PlayStation 5 as a next-generation version announced today by Warner Bros will bring with it three new characters. Kombat Pack 2 includes Mileena, Rain, and the classic Rambo voiced by Sylvester Stallone himself. This new character bundle launches on 17th November 2020 alongside the PS5 version, and owners of the game on PlayStation 4 will receive a free upgrade. That counts for both the physical and digital versions, and even includes those who just own the base game.

The next-gen version of Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate will include “4K dynamic resolution, enhanced visuals, improved loading times and cross-generation console compatibility for select modes”. Cross-play support also allows PS5 and PS4 players to fight each other.

As for the three bonus characters, Rain will now be equipped with a katar while Mileena has access to razor-sharp claws along with her traditional sais. However, Rambo is very much the focus of Kombat Pack 2. “Playing as Rambo is like time-traveling back with Kronika to 1982. Our character artists have perfectly captured Rambos look from ‘First Blood’. They, along with our design and cinematics teams, drew great inspiration from that film, as well the subsequent sequels.”

Ps Plus Extra/premium May Shine A Light On Bad Ps Plus Months

First and foremost, October is spooky season. Its the time of Halloween. While many services embraced the season, PS Plus really did not. The PS Plus free games of October 2021 were Hell Let Loose, PGA Tour 2K21, and Mortal Kombat X. PGA Tour 2K21 didnt really have the mass appeal a PS Plus game needs, so Hell Let Loose was the shining star of the month . Its a great game, but its still not a Halloween game. In this regard, Mortal Kombat X rubbed a lot of fans the wrong way.

PS Plus fans got the base version of Mortal Kombat X. Everyone knows the fighting game is gruesome, but that doesnt really define Halloween. Had it been the upgradedMortal Kombat XL version of the game, fans would have gotten several bonus characters based on slasher or horror films. It would have been perfect, but Mortal Kombat X itself was not the most appealing venture.

This led to another point of contention. If only the base game was on the menu, why not opt for Mortal Kombat 11 instead? It had already been out for two years at this point, and while it still would not have checked the Halloween box, it would have been a better game for the buck. Now, while its only speculation, it seems fans now know why it was Mortal Kombat X and not Mortal Kombat 11: PS Plus Extra.

Ps Plus Extra Adding Mortal Kombat 11 Likely Meant That October 2021 Could Not

While the new PS Plus tier system releases next month, its worth noting how there have been rumors, speculation, and reports on this for several months now. Its not something Sony put together overnight, and it could have been in the works for years before it became a topic of such talk. Now, that may not exactly be the case, but PS Plus Extra being a behind-the-scene thing in October 2021 adds up.

It could explain many questionable choices for PS Plus free game lists between the PS5s release and now, but Mortal Kombat 11 is likely the clearest example. If Sony knew it was working on this subscription service and knew it wanted to include big, genre-defining games, then Mortal Kombat 11 was likely an early and easy choice. The problem is, of course, that it couldnt offer Mortal Kombat 11 in October and then turn around and put it on this service some months later.

Several of the PS Plus games that are releasing next month have been free before, but its not likely most of that was intentional. With Mortal Kombat 11, it makes sense Sony would avoid this scenario. It doesnt change October, nor does it change the upcoming lineup, but it raises interesting questions about how much planning went into the tier service and how far back that goes. It doesnt explain why it didnt go with Mortal Kombat XL either, but at this point, that is water under the bridge.
