As the games industry continues to complete its move to digital-first storefronts, some changes have to be made. Refunds for digital products are a complicated thing, and most stores started out their lifespans without any clear policies about exactly how those would be handled. That’s changing, but slowly: Sony recently updated its policies to be a whole lot more consumer-friendly, and now you can request a refund on both pre-orders and “faulty” content. Here’s the language now on the website:

“Full games, downloadable content, themes, avatars and season passes fall under this category.

After purchasing this type of content through PlayStationStore, you have 14 days from purchase to request a refund to your wallet on PlayStationNetwork. If you started to download or stream the purchased content you are not eligible for a refund unless the content is faulty.”

This is more expansive than the previous policy, and should allow you to be a little more liberal with how and when you click that pre-order button. Personally, I would always recommend against pre-orders, and suggest that you wait to see if reviewers and others think a game is good before you open up your wallet. But at least now you have the option to walk back that decision.

Sony has announced that it will finally refund preorders and games on the PlayStation store

Its something that gamers have been requesting for years, and now Sony has announced that it will finally refund preorders and games on the PlayStation store.

PlayStation said: You can cancel a digital content purchase within 14 days from the date of purchase and receive a refund to your PSN wallet.

However, theres an important catch.

You wont be refunded if youve started downloading or streaming the game.

PlayStation added: Digital content that you have started downloading or streaming, and in-game consumables that have been delivered, are not eligible for a refund unless the content is faulty.

To make sure you arent caught out, it might be wise to disable the Automatic Downloads feature in your system settings.

Battlefield : How To Download The Open Beta

If you’re not interested in early access, then you don’t need to take any further steps other than download the beta once it becomes available to you. Pre-loading the beta will start on October 5, so you won’t need to wait once the open beta truly kicks off.

It will be available to play on PC and console . PlayStation Plus is not needed to participate in the Open Beta, however, if you’re playing on Xbox you will need to be at least an Xbox Live Gold subscriber .

Only one map will be on display during the Beta, and it’s called Orbital. Orbital features a massive space rocket counting down, with the fight on this map taking place around its imminent launch. Sony has made some tweaks to their PlayStation Store refund policies. They still arent as generous as what you see on Steam, where you can get a refund on pretty much anything for up to two weeks after purchase, but Sonys stance has steadily softened over time. You can now get a refund on any game for up to 14 days, as long as you havent started downloading it. If you have started downloading, you can only get a refund if you can prove the game is faulty in some way . You can also now cancel pre-orders any time before the release of the game.

So yeah, not as bad as Sonys digital return policy used to be, but theres room for improvement. There ought to be at least a short window where players can return stuff theyve downloaded, even if its not faulty. Then again, GameStop wont take back anything youve taken the plastic wrap off, so you could argue Sonys digital return policy is already in line with brick-and-mortar stores. Still, not being worse than GameStop when it comes to returns isnt exactly a high hurdle.

5. When prompted about whether you are the account holder, click “Yes, I am.”

7. Choose why you’re requesting a refund.
