PS4: How to Turn Off 2 Ways (With & Without Controller)

The PS4’s stock 5400RPM hard drive isn’t particularly fast, so it takes a while to load games. As a result, you might consider upgrading your internal PS4 drive to a 7200RPM disk, hybrid drive, or even an SSD.

While this will result in some loading time benefits, it won’t make a world of difference otherwise. Games will load more quickly, but it won’t improve graphical performance or other aspects of gameplay.

This is especially true for the original PS4 and PS4 Slim. Both of these use a SATA II connection for their hard disk, which is not capable of throughputs as high as the newer SATA III connection on the PS4 Pro. So while you’ll see some benefits of using an SSD on older PS4 models, it won’t be night and day.

SSDs are also expensive, so in most cases, you’re better off putting the money towards a larger hard drive to hold more games. You might also prefer saving up money and upgrading to a PlayStation 5, which has an SSD built into the system.

Ps4 Pro: How To Activate The Hidden Boost Mode

The PS4 Pro has a boost mode that lets you maximize performance, but it’s not enabled by default. Here’s how to find the toggle and activate it.

The PS4 Pro’s “Boost Mode” is one of the best features that the console offers, but many don’t even know about it. With the “Boost Mode” activated, you’ll be able to enjoy your favorite games with the highest frame rates possible. So if you’ve never tried to activate this hidden feature, you should give it a go. Here’s how.

Restart Your Device In Safe Mode

If a software issue is causing your PS4 not to start, restarting it in Safe Mode can help clear up the issue. Here’s how:

  • Turn your system completely off by holding the power button for 3 seconds and unplug any cables attaching it to other devices, like your controller or television, but keep your power cable plugged in.
  • Push the Power button on your PS4 and hold it down until you hear two beeps . After the second beep, you should see a black screen. From here the system will boot up in Safe Mode.
  • Connect your controller to your PS4 with a USB cable, then press the PS button in the middle of the controller.
  • A list of options will appear onscreen. Select Restart System.

How to Factory Reset PS4 in a Few Steps?

First things first, you need to make sure you’re using the correct HDMI port on your TV. You may not be aware, but certain ports don’t actually allow for 4K visuals.

To check if you’re using the correct port, look at the back of the TV and try and find a ‘HDMI 2.0’ port. If you can’t find one, try HDMI port one. Often that’s the one with the fanciest technology, and you’ll find out in the next step anyway.

Make sure that you have unplugged the console from its socket for your safety.

  • Turn the PS4 Pro upside down and look for a hole directly above the PS4 Logo. In the picture below, the PS4 logo is shown below as the image is inverted.
  • Now insert a screwdriver into the eject hole and turn it so the disk is released.
  • After the disk has been released, plug all the cables back in and try turning on the PS4 again. Check if our issue is solved.

Ensure A Replacement Hdmi Cable Is Premium Quality

The HDMI cable that comes with the PS4 Pro is optimised to carry a full 4K HDR video signal, with HDCP 2.2 copy protection and surround sound. Not all HDMI cables are as capable though and if you need a longer lead, for example, make sure it is labelled as “premium” or “high speed”. Even better, ensure that it has 4K-ready on the packaging.

It is not recommended you make do with an older cable, such as the one that came with your original PS4, as that might not be capable of the bandwidth required for 4K Ultra HD and HDR signals.

How To Download Games Remotely To Play When You Get Home

There are few things worse than buying a brand new game online and then having to wait for hours in order for it to download. Most PS4 games will allow you to play part of the game before the rest has downloaded – represented by a shorter download bar on the user interface – but that can often be a very truncated experience.

You can however buy and set games to download to your PS4 Pro remotely. If you Stay Connected to the Internet ticked in Settings> Power Save Settings> Set Features Available in Rest Mode and have your console in sleep mode rather than completely switched off, you can set downloads to automatically install on your machine through an internet browser or the official PlayStation App.

Using the app for iOS or Android, you can access the PlayStation Store, click on the profile icon on the top right, then on Download List and you’ll see all your purchases past and present. Click Download to your PS4 on any of them and they will do so automatically.

It is similar when using a browser. Head to store.playstation.com, sign into your PSN account and you will find the Download List option by clicking on your username in the top right-hand corner.

How To Fix It When A Ps4 Wont Turn On

To troubleshoot a problem where your PS4 won’t turn on, perform each of the following steps in order.

  • Interrupt power to the PS4. First unplug the power cable from your PS4 for at least 30 second, and then plug it back in. Once it’s plugged back in, you can attempt to turn the console on.

  • Power cycle your PS4. Turn the console off by holding down the power button even if the console seems to be off already. After the lights stop flashing, or about 30 seconds have passed, remove the power cables and let your console sit for at least 20 minutes. Press and hold the power button again, while the console is still unplugged. Then plug the console back in and see if it will turn on.

  • Try a different power cable. If you have another power cable available, remove the current cable and try the other one.

Your PS4 uses a standard IEC C7 power cable, which is the same cable used by the Xbox One S and a variety of other electronics devices. If you don’t own any such devices, these cables can be found at most electronics stores.

  • Try a different power strip or outlet. If you’re using a power strip or surge protector, it may have gone bad. Check to see if other devices work using the outlet your PS4 is connected to, and try plugging your PS4 into a different outlet.

The PS4 Pro’s “Boost Mode” overclocks your GPU, which is just a fancy way of saying it takes the training wheels off and uses maximum power to give you higher frame rates.
