First a DLC expansion to the original game, Subnautica: Below Zero is now releasing as a standalone title. Does that make it Subnautica 2?
Underwater survival gets chilly in Subnautica: Below Zero, releasing as a full game in mid-May. Set in the same world as the original Subnautica game, players will take on new challenges, explore new biomes, and attempt to survive a harsh, alien planet. However, Subnautica: Below Zero has left some players confused as to whether it’s a true, standalone sequel, due to its initial intention as DLC for the first game.
Subnautica follows the story of a shipwrecked spacer who crash lands on an alien planet. The planet, 4546B, is covered primarily in water, so the only option the survivor has is to build an underwater base and scour the dangerous seafloor for wreckage and natural resources, all building towards the hopes of escape. While the start of Subnatica seems like an open-ended survival game, as the player locates other abandoned bases and log tapes, it becomes clear something more sinister is happening under the surface of 4546B.

How To Craft Items On Subnautica: Below Zero
After you crash land on the alien planet, youll find a limited number of resources around the wreckage and will soon need to make your own.
To craft items, youll first need to locate the Drop Pod, marked by the orange pod icon thats always showing somewhere on your screen.

Once inside the Drop Pod, use the Fabricator, which is located on the left wall as you walk in. Here, you can craft Resources, Sustenance, Personal, and Deployable items.
Under the Sustenance section, youll be able to craft water and food items, while essentials like 02 tanks and first aid kits are found under the Equipment part of the Personal section.
To craft these items, youll need to acquire the resources denoted for each one in the Fabricator, most of which can be found in the surrounding waters, such as the fauna and minerals.
So, those are the controls that you need to know to get established in the world of Subnautica: Below Zero.
Developer Mode & Dev Console
At any time during gameplay press “L1 + R1 + L2 + R2 + Option” all at the same time . If done correctly the “Developer” option will appear in the Pause Menu. This will allow you to spawn items or teleport to locations at-will. This will disable trophies until you save and reload the game. At any time during gameplay press “L1 + R1 + L2 + R2 + X” all at the same time . If done correctly the “DevConsole” text box will appear, allowing you to enter in any known Dev commands to modify the state of the game. This will disable trophies until you save and reload the game.

Curing The Frozen Leviathan
There is a sample injection robot located on the second level of ice carving, allowing you to eliminate the Kharaa Pustules dotted across the specimen. In order to do so, you must have a Spy Pengling as well as its remote, in your inventory. It is to be used to acquire the antidote that Sam Ayou stored away in a spy pengling site.
If you exit the cave containing the Frozen Leviathan, head south, past the Glacial Forest, and the frozen river bordering the forest’s southern end. You should find yourself going up a hill and there should also be a light stick near the top of the hill. Head left, you should find yourself walking past the top of a frozen waterfall. Head down a slope leading down to the western end of the Glacial Connection lake. The Spy Pengling site containing the antidote should be just under the slope. Deploy your Spy Pengling and use it to collect the antidote at the end of the cave. You may find the site if you scan the map of the Glacial Basin in the Phi Robotics Center.
Return to the Phi Excavation Site, and insert the antidote into the sample injection robot. Interact with the terminal to commence the antidote injection into the Frozen Leviathan’s Kharaa Pustules. After the injection succeeds, Robin will follow it up with a moment of closure regarding the death of her sister. On another note, if she has Al-An in her head, he will include some information on how Architects view closure.
When To Use Coordinates
Using coordinates can be an effective way of locating a point of interest. If you are using a guide, this is something you will quickly become accustomed to doing.
It can also be used to point friends and other players towards particularly resource-rich sections of the map.
If you are playing on PC and using console commands, you can also use coordinates to teleport to a specific location.

2021, Unknown Worlds
Played on a PS4 Pro
It’s been a while since I’ve reviewed a new game while it’s still somewhat fresh. The last time I did a proper review that wasn’t part of a marathon was The Last of Us Part II. But 2021 has gifted me new entries in many of my favorite series, from Hitman 3 to The Binding of Isaac: Repentance. May started strong with Resident Evil 8, but I couldn’t resist the siren’s call of Subnautica: Below Zero. The original Subnautica was a rare gem that sang straight to my soul, and although early details about its sequel had me feeling only cautiously optimistic, all of my doubts were almost instantly washed away the moment I stepped into its arctic sea. Isaac, Resident Evil, and my pseudo-marathon of Silent Hill had to wait, because Below Zero‘s initial hook was so strong. Yet now that it’s over, I feel exhausted, and it will probably be a long time before I feel the urge to replay it.
Subnautica: Below Zero Is Being Sold As A Sequel
It seems Unknown Worlds said or implied in a February 2021 PCGamesN interview that Subnautica: Below Zero was “not quite a full sequel.” To that point, text on the official Subnautica website itself still makes no specific reference to it being a sequel, and its Steam page says only that it’s “a new chapter in the Subnautica universe.” Yet, in an Inverse interview published the same day as PCGamesN’s, project lead David Kalina said, “at this point, its a sequel. Its a whole new world, new story, new creatures.”
The truth wasn’t fully confirmed until later in February in the first few seconds of the trailer for Subnautica: Below Zero‘s early access Seaworthy Update, Unknown Worlds called the game “The sequel to Subnautica,” which appears to be the first public reference to it as such. Below Zero has a price tag to match, retailing for $29.99 on PC and consoles – the same as the original game.
While the vast majority are positive overall, some Early Access reviews on Steam say Below Zero isn’t as expansive or well developed as the original Subnautica, with several saying it still feels like DLC. It remains to be seen if Subnautica: Below Zero‘s full release will remedy this, but those who enjoyed the original may still find diving back into the alien ocean compelling, even if it isn’t as big or intricate as the first game.

Subnautica: Below Zero Writer Has Joined Naughty Dog

Naughty Dog has snapped up a new writer in the shape of Zaire Lanier, who previously worked as a scribe for Subnautica: Below Zero.
Lanier shared the news on Twitter, revealing that working with the Uncharted developer had been a dream of theirs for nearly adecade.
This has been my dream for almost a decade now. Got a PS3 of Craigslist from a dude in a parking lot and bought Dragon Age/The Last of Us from GameStop. Those two games changed the trajectory of my life. Im ecstatic to announce Im officially a writer at Naughty Dog.
Obviously Lanier wasnt able to talk about what project theyre involved with, but we know that Naughty Dog has been busy staffing up for their debut PS5 title. Right now, its believed to be a multiplayer game, most likely the Factions mode that was cut from The Last of Us: Part II.
Earlier this year, it was reported that the Sony-owned developer is working on a full-blown remake of The Last of Us, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Subnautica: Below Zero Console Plans And Roadmap
Hey everybody!
People have been asking us what our plans are for Below Zero on consoles, and Id like to expand a little on what has been happening on that front since my roadmap post in July!
We are planning to ship Below Zero on Xbox One and PS4. Our goal is to ship simultaneously with PC v1.0, but its probably too soon to know if thats realistic. We have more work to do to make Below Zero as good as it can be before releasing it on any platform.
Behind the scenes, weve been working to improve our console efforts in-house. We learned a lot from the process of taking Subnautica to Xbox and PS4 , and we are putting a fair bit of effort into bringing those efforts back in-house and making sure that the consoles get the love they deserve.
Part of improving our in-house console efforts means that we also need to improve the technical infrastructure across both the original Subnautica and Below Zero. Well be shipping updates to Subnautica on Xbox and PS4 as part of this process.

A Leaner But Meaner Follow
The original Subnautica is one of those games I wish I could wipe from my memory so that I could plunge in and comb its depths for the first time all over again. No ones worked out how to do that without some pretty severe side effects, but Subnautica: Below Zero is the next best thing: even though its a bit smaller, it gives us a whole new watery sector to explore, survive, craft, and build awesome bases in, and its just as exhilarating.

In Subnautica: Below Zero, much of your exploration will centre around your XenoWorx PDA. When you bring out your XenoWorx PDA which doesnt pause the game you can scroll to the rightmost tab to find the Databank.
Here, depending on the game mode that youre playing, youll be able to find advice, checklists, and helpful tasks to guide your survival on planet 4546B. On Adventure Mode, you can refer to the Survival pages to help guide you through the game.
