That cross, circle, square, and triangle pattern on the inside of the PS5’s fins is just lovely.
Right, straight off the bat, there is one thing that I need to discuss in this PS5 review when talking about performance and it’s something that readers of T3 will be used to by now if they have just read my Xbox Series X and S reviews. And that thing is storage space.
The PS5 is advertised as shipping with an 825GB SSD, which on paper sounds rather large, even if it is less than the 1TB drive that the Xbox Series X is advertised as coming with.
Just as the Xbox Series X doesn’t actually have 1TB of useable room for games, apps, and media out of the box, with just 800GB available, the PS5 follows suit and technically only has 667GB of useable space when first switched on.

Now, look, I realise that you can install plenty of AAA games with that amount of space, but when you consider that right now at launch you can’t actually make use of the console’s hardware expansion port , and that flagship last-gen PlayStation systems came with more storage space, you can’t help but feel a little disappointed.
Hardcore gamers will absolutely want more storage space in their PS5 and, in my mind, the sooner Sony can turn on its M.2 SSD drive expansion port, the better. Especially so as both Microsoft’s systems can be upgraded in storage right now and it can be done easier, too.
Ps5 Reveal: The Next Generation Of Playstation Looks A Lot Like The Last One
Like any generational change, the real power of the PS5 is likely to emerge slowly
The palpable frisson of excitement in the hours leading up to Sonys glitzy reveal of the PlayStation 5 last night was understandable.
Social media was aflutter with predictions for the next-generation console, what games would appear, would we see the box, would we hear a price. Here was a chance to escape, if only for an hour, into a showreel of technical wizardry and colourful worlds.
It felt significant as Sonys first real riposte to Xbox in the infancy of the next generation console wars. The early goings between the PlayStation 5 and Microsofts Xbox Series X have been tentative, the two players engaged in a game of chicken on key aspects.
Up until this point, Sony had dished out rather niche technical specs as a picture of the next-gen focus was slowly drawn. Xbox recently unveiled a slew of smaller titles coming to its console, but is withholding its big guns until its showcase in July.
So it felt something of an elaborate ruse that the first game in Sonys digital showcase was an upgraded version of Grand Theft Auto V -a game originally released in 2013 for PS3- and the second was a remastered version of last years Spider-Man with a Miles Morales expansion. The next generation, it seems, looks a lot like the last one.
Like any generational change, the real power of these new consoles is likely to emerge slowly as developers adapt to new technologies.

Its now been over a year since Sony first launched the PS5, and there has been no sign of a PS5 black console. All PS5 stock released in limited quantities has consisted entirely of the white PS5, to the dismay of many. However, stock levels have gradually increased, and more gamers have finally got their hands on a base PlayStation 5 console. So could it finally be time for Sony to turn its attention to a variant on its PS5 design?
Releasing a black PS5 could draw the PS5 further comparisons to its competitor- the Xbox Series X. The Series X first launched in white. But similar to PS5 fans, Xbox fans also expressed interest in a white Xbox Series X console. While fans have waited patiently, or impatiently, for a black version, news has been thin on the ground. Sony Playstation 5 Design
The Sony PS5 console as seen in the image above stands vertically and sports a black and white design that matches the all-new DualSense controller. Its also worth noting that there are two versions of the console the standard console and the slimmer Digital Edition. Both have the same basic design, with the latter missing an optical drive.
Both consoles are also massive. Theyre the largest home consoles ever released and are more on par with a PC tower when it comes to space requirements. Keep this in mind before purchase or it might have to live on the floor in front of your TV.
While the console ships with a futuristic black and white color scheme, the side panels are easy to remove. Sony has nixed the idea of custom panels for now . Nevertheless, you can buy vinyl skins to give your PS5 a more customized look.
Another benefit of the new removable panels is that its much easier to clean dust from the fans. This should help the console run cool and quiet, especially over time. In our PS5 review, we noted that the console runs quiet, but as dust builds up over time that might change.

Will Ps Vr2 Have Better Tracking
Sony is utilizing what’s called inside-out tracking for the PS VR2. This is the same tracking method used by the Oculus Quest 2, and utilizes four cameras on the PS VR2 headset to track the headset’s position in the room, as well as the controllers themselves.

As for the PS5 Digital Edition black, wed again predict the disc drive-less console will cost £359.99 or $399.99 the same price as the base version.

Its Got Haptics In The Headset
Another interesting feature is the haptic feedback within the headset itself. This apparently isnt as advanced a sensation as the haptic feedback seen in the new DualSense controllers, and might be employed more for comfort than enhancing immersion. Were yet to really learn how the feature will be used exactly, though.

For our PS5 review T3 used the incredible LG CX TV.
The PlayStation 5 is Sony’s flagship next-gen games console, and it is loaded with top tech and advanced features such as support for 120 Hz refresh rates, AMD Freesync, HDR, 4K resolutions, 60 fps+ framerates, and much more besides. What Is The Psvr 2 / Playstation 5 Vr
While players were delighted by the announcement of a virtual reality headset compatible with the current generation of PlayStation consoles, they were also shocked by how few details came with that announcement. Without even an official name to attribute to PlayStation’s upcoming headset, opting instead to refer to it as the “next-generation VR system,” Nishino mostly gave vague details with no concrete facts and figures. Aside from the obvious fact that the new headset is designed for use with the PlayStation 5, Nishino also promised improved performance and interactivity and enhanced resolution, field of view, tracking, and input, without details on what any of that actually means.
He did, however, concede three new pieces of official information for the improved system. The first is that the new Sony VR will have wholly redesigned controllers which incorporate the unique features from PlayStation 5s DualSense controller. This was a welcome announcement as the current PSVR still uses the PlayStation Move controllers, which came out during the PlayStation 3s lifespan. The second announcement is that the new system will connect to the PlayStation 5 via a single wire. This is a greatly appreciated offering by conscious cable consumers who require five to set up the original headset.

What The Experts Are Saying About The Ps5
In Android Authoritys PS5 review, our reviewer Sarah Chaney was overall very positive about the new console. Upgrades to the internals and the controller make it a worthy successor to the PS4. The ability to choose between enhanced graphics with real-time ray tracing and higher framerates offers an experience closer to PC than previous consoles.
Sarah also stressed how great the PS5 is for those new to console gaming. Combined with a subscription to PlayStation Now and PlayStation Plus, youll instantly have a small collection of some of the best games from the PS4 era, along with a PS5 game each month.
Things are a bit more complicated for current PS4 owners. The improved loading times and upgraded graphics are great but not really worth the upgrade. Aside from Astros Playroom, which is more of a tech demo than a game, there were only three exclusive titles available at launch. Two of those were also available on the PS4.
But as of June 2021, weve seen two more high-profile exclusive titles hit the system in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Returnal. And Sarah notes that Horizon Forbidden West is also slated for release early next year. Indeed, things are looking better in 2022, with Gran Turismo 7 and a new God of War game expected to launch then.

Trophies on PlayStation 5 work pretty much as they do on PlayStation 4 you unlock them for completing certain milestones during gameplay. However, the addition of the new Activities feature now means that you can progress against specific trophies and know just how much you need to do unlock the trophy you have your eye on.

Set before the events of the books in the 1800s at the famous Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry and the world beyond, Hogwarts Legacy is described as an open-world RPG that will take you on an adventure in the Harry Potter universe. Added to the list of upcoming PS5 games for 2022 after a delay, Adrian Ropp, head of Avalance, wrote in a blog post on PlayStation’s official website that the next-gen console will let create immersive experiences that will let “a player practically feel the terror of Inferi bearing down upon them” or “sense the ground rumbling beneath them as a heard of angry centaurs surrounds them”.
The Games: Well The Ps5 Is The Best Ps4 You Can Buy
The chief reason for buying a new console is to play the new games on it. When the Switch came out, half the reason anyone bought it was to play the fabulous new Zelda. Sadly, the selection at this launch is laughably thin for both Sony and Microsoft fanboys.
As I noted above, the only game I was provided in time to get any real impressions was Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Having recently completed its predecessor on PS4, I can say that the new game looks and plays better, with shorter load times, improved lighting, more detailed buildings and so on. But the 2018 Spider-Man still looks and plays very well this is the difference youd expect in a sequel, not from one generation to the next.
As far as a review goes, Ill just say that if you liked the first, youll like the second, and if you didnt play the original, play it first because its great. I also want to hand it to the new game for its commitment to diversity.
But that will also be coming out on the PS4 and Xbox One and Series X In fact, almost all the big games of the next year will be.
They will, of course, play and look better on the PS5 than the PS4. But its a hard sell to tell someone to pay $500 so they can play the next Assassins Creed or Horizon: Zero Dawn in 4K HDR rather than 1080p.
Adding them all up there really isnt much reason in terms of exclusives to pick the PS5 over the Xbox Series X or, at least for 2021, a PS4 Pro.
