How to Connect Your PS4 Controller to a PC via Bluetooth

Now you’ll be able to connect your PS4 DualShock 4 controller to your PC. You can do this in two ways either via a USB cable or via Bluetooth.

To connect the PS4 DualShock controller to your PC via a USB cable you just need a regular micro USB cable the same one that comes with many modern smartphones.

Once you’ve plugged the cable into both the DualShock controller and your PC, Windows should detect it, and you’ll be ready to play PC games using the PS4 controller.

Are You Sure The Adapter Is Compatible With Your Controller

Not all adapters are compatible with all Bluetooth-enabled controllers. Always check the compatibility list before making a purchase. Adapters for PlayStation 3 Dualshock controllers are not compatible with PlayStation 4 controllers. You have to buy one specifically made for the console you own. Some models only work on desktop or mobile devices, even though controller compatibility might be listed as universal. Always check the specific content of an adapters description before making a purchase! Most likely, youll have to go through a bit of trial and error to find out which one will suit your needs.

How To Emulate An Xbox Controller With A Ps4 Controller

RELATED:Why You Should Get an Xbox Controller for PC Gaming

Xbox 360 controllersand Xbox One controllers, now that;Microsoft has finally released the necessary driversare usually best for PC gaming. Many PC games are designed specifically to work with Xbox controllers. Many games also require xinput input, which;Xbox controllers provide, but other types of controllers dont.

If youre using a a PS4 controller;with an emulator to play older games, you could easily configure the emulator to accept the controllers;button presses. If youre using it with a PC game, you may need to open the PC games control-settings and configure the game to respond to the controllers inputs.

But for games that expect an Xbox controller,;you may have to emulate xinput. This will;convert the PS4 controllers;input to the equivalent Xbox button presses, and games will just work with the DualShock 4 just like they would with an Xbox controller. Theyll;just think youre just using an Xbox controller.

Sony hasnt released any official drivers for the PlayStation 4 controller;on a PC, so theres no official way to do this. There are tools for emulating xinput with a PS4, but theyre unofficial, third-party tools developed by the community.

We recommend the free;Input Mapper program. This tool will also helpfully;show the battery level of your controller, which is something you wont normally be able to see in Windows.

The Ps4 Controller Is A Perfect Pro Switch Controller Alternative

Sony hasnt changed their controller design much in the last couple decades and for good reason. Its a refined and comfortable layout that players have gotten used through years of play. So, even though its not designed to be used with the Switch, it immediately feels familiar. It doesnt hurt that, fundamentally, the Joy-Con layout is very similar to the PlayStation controller.

The traditional shape buttons on the right side map perfectly to the Joy-Cons letter buttons. Likewise with the arrow buttons on the left side of the controller.; The Options and Share buttons map to the + and buttons respectively. If youre using the PS4 version, you can even take screenshots by clicking the touchpad in the center of the controller.

The only major issue I bumped into was with the control sticks. Now, Ill preface this with the disclaimer that Im usually a PC gamer and Im terrible with a controller, so your mileage may vary. When using the PS4 controller in;Super Mario Odyssey, the left control stick, used to control Marios movement felt particularly sensitive. This was fine for broad movements, but for puzzles that required precision, it felt difficult to control. This may be partially due to having bigger control sticks on the PS4 controller, which can make the input feel more exaggerated.

Or maybe I suck at;Odyssey. Both are possible.
